  2. Afternoon Simon! Yes, another victim falls prey to the allure of your XI...... Part of the reason for the Climax is, as you say, the ability to lean the engine away from my overly long legs. Should I find it necessary, it will allow much greater alterations to the pedal box area. You've guessed one of the two main reasons for going flat backed: the ability to have a sensible roll over bar. The other, if not bigger reason, is that the other half thinks the hump is ugly!! 🙄 Hopefully I'll be able to start a build diary soon.....

  3. Good afternoon everyone, Just a quick note that more parts are being added to the clearance section of the shop on a daily basis at present. Thank you to all those that have ordered parts from there its made it well worth the time and effort doing it. Shop is always being updated with photos and descriptions but any feedback always welcome. Many thanks Westfield Parts Dept

  8. Morning all! Seeing as I'm finally getting near to being able to buy the car I've wanted for the last 15 years or so, I figured I might as well sign up and stop lurking! My name is Simon, which won't be a great surprise from the user name, and I've been slowly getting closer to sorting myself out an XI for a while now. So far my journey has been mostly one of looking and longing, spurred on by a run out in Simon Marks' XI last year. I've been acquiring parts recently with the aim of having some of the main mechanical bits sorted before I buy the kit from Westfield. But being an awkward b*****r, I shall be using some non-standard bit! The plan, which is slowly being fulfilled by a well known auction site, is to have a flat backed XI powered by a lightly tuned Climax FWB and my version of Lotus's de-Dion rear suspension. So far I've got an ex-water pump engine, in bits and needing some machining prior to assembly, two 5 speed Lotus Elite/Eclat gearboxes (to make one good one), and a rear diff being built up for me by a local machinist. Not a lot, but its a start! I know this may cause me some bother coming registration time, but I have a cunning Morris Minor based plan for that..... I figure that's all for now, so hello all! I'll no doubt be making more posts once we've moved house and I've re-built the asbestos roofed garage so I can start to play!

  12. Accidentally, maybe. Deliberately would surely have been outside of it's borders... Plenty of seemingly independent scientists have suggested the DNA profile of the virus leads them to believe this is a naturally occurring entity. I'm sure the truth eventually will out, until then, to me at least, whether accidental, deliberate or naturally occurring is irrelevant. It's out there and we need to deal with it. For now, intent is the distraction of politicians hoping to spin something...

  16. We’ll see how it pans out. Bars and restaurants are allowed more than 6 in total in seems, but each group of people can’t be more than six. So based on that, TDs may be ok? bl**** brexit

  19. Gutted by agreed, the cheap and cheerful dash to Sharm or Hurghada is dead as a dodo too due to reduction in numbers allowed. Though actual dive boats are probably a pretty safe place to be - after all the chef kills everything with that food and we keep washing ourselves for an hour at a time in salt water!

  32. Since the demise of Rockingham, Oulton park must be the new centrally located circuit we can all do now? Hopefully the trackday booking frenzy will simmer down over the winter, and we'll get a biggie sorted next year eh?

  34. One of our local chaps in our Southern Club had a lucky escape last night when his Tiger caught fire leaving the house. He had his little boy in the car and was very lucky to still be within running distance of his house. He was able to grab a fire extinguisher and prevent a more serious incident and losing the car entirely. He sent me a vid (which I am not going to post) and I can tell you, it happened in seconds! The car has been on the road for a number of years and has just had a major overhaul. He is a mechanic and MOT tester by trade and currently trying to work out what caused the blaze. It serves as a stark reminder how quickly fire can take hold and escalate, so please make sure you have a fire extinguisher on board at the very least. Pics posted with his consent.
