Apologies for the down-time. Server needed to reboot and took a wee bit longer than usual. All good again now though. Chris4 points

Glad they both survived. I'd always suggest not fastening harnesses until after engine has successfully started. Even more important with kids that need help to get out etc.3 points

Very glad no one was hurt! 😳 I had one or two close calls with twin 40s. What can happen is the end stop bolt on #1 (front) carb fuel intake (#1 and #2 carbs fed inline, the stop bolt Is at the end of the fuel supply line where another front carb would go if it was a three carb setup) can back off due to vibration and the copper gasket under it going brittle. Had a few “why am I smelling raw petrol?” moments, stopped the car only to find petrol p1ss1ng out of there. 😬 Of course, the problem is greatly increased on an engine where the intake and exhaust are on the same side of the engine!2 points

How awful, glad everyone got out OK and the car wasn't too badly damaged! Having run the twin Webers myself, I'd be looking at the floats first. When I rebuilt mine I inadvertently/naively jammed a float... Luckily I hadn't fitted the filter so noticed the small waterfall of fuel running out the trumpets when the fuel pump kicked in!2 points

One of our local chaps in our Southern Club had a lucky escape last night when his Tiger caught fire leaving the house. He had his little boy in the car and was very lucky to still be within running distance of his house. He was able to grab a fire extinguisher and prevent a more serious incident and losing the car entirely. He sent me a vid (which I am not going to post) and I can tell you, it happened in seconds! The car has been on the road for a number of years and has just had a major overhaul. He is a mechanic and MOT tester by trade and currently trying to work out what caused the blaze. It serves as a stark reminder how quickly fire can take hold and escalate, so please make sure you have a fire extinguisher on board at the very least. Pics posted with his consent.1 point

Good to hear no-one was hurt, and the situation quickly bought under control! I've had exhausts glowing bright red before, but nothing close to a fire like that.1 point

Love the solid british racing green, very much suits the car as long as its combined with black bits. If its a keeper buy the colour your heart desires, if you want to sell it on, orange, yellow, red, blue. But, as Cilla Black would say.... The choice; is yours...1 point

i suppose it depends on how fast you want to go.. fast? you need blue.. very fast? you need blue with gold stripes for that, super fast? then you need blue with gold strips and red pin strips, Effing ballistic ? then for that the only choice is blue with gold stripes, red pinstriping, gold wheels, and red seatbelts.. The end 🤣1 point

Just a quick update I finally decided on doing things properly as I didn't want to take the engine out again! I ordered a heavy duty quaife straight cut from west wales rally spares and a sbd heavy duty clutch cover and kevla plate and new release bearing. Cars back together and working great. Gearbox noise is fantastic makes the car such an event, the long 1st gear and the ratios have transformed my old redtop. Getting rid of the paddle clutch which was like a switch and horrible to drive on the road was a good move. Loving my machine now1 point

Two and a half years ago, my poor neighbour lost control of his MGB in Wales. The corner on the B road he was going around turned out to be slick with cow poo and he slid off (Aquapooed? Poo-planed?) at 15mph into a gate post, which screwed the front end something awful. He then spent the next two years rebuilding and repairing it - I helped him - and it was back on the road this spring. 👍 On Friday night in London, he was driving in a 20 mph zone when a driver doing 50 mph blew a red light and hit him and ricocheted off into some street furniture, then ran off, leaving his car behind with an empty vodka bottle and pot paraphernalia inside it. This was the result: My friend is determined to rebuild it, but he’s understandably gutted.0 points

It was meant to be a quick spin out....that ended in what felt like a walk of shame, all because of a cheap rubber blanking cap that decided to split and dump hot coolant on my feet! Credit to Burrows breakdown form Derby, excellent service. And the chap that lives in Stanton by Bridge (where I was, just south of Derby) who popped over to offer me a lift home (as he was sympathetic as he also has a kit car) - much appreciated! New silicone blanking cap ordered so I can be back on the road in a few days.0 points
