Well last Saturday My chosen victim and I chose to set off for the long haul north. Two pals one westie and a tent for some wild camping around NC500! What could go wrong! all loaded fed ready for the off! sunrise over Birmingham airport as we were 5 miles from home. Day 1 was a mammoth. With the intentions to get north of Inverness and do the route backwards spending a couple extra days at the end of the route around Skye before dropping down to fort william to then climb Ben Nevis. The motorway was the chosen route given it meant only a 9/10 hour drive as aposed to 14 if we had avoided them. We had some rain We had some cloud Then we found the north coast roads! 560 miles for the first days driving but what a spot we found to camp! A well earned beer for us both!7 points

Whilst I have sympathy for key workers wanting a holiday and a break, I can’t bring myself to feel too sympathetic toward anyone daft enough to think there won’t be “lightning lockdowns’ or ‘quick quarantines’. Seriously, what do they expect? County A declares a spike in infections, Country B has no choice but to put Country A back on their quarantine list. You can bet your pension that had the quarantine not been put back into effect, the press and everyone else would be p******** and moaning about how irresponsible it was. Whatever they do is wrong with someone. IMO, If you want to go on holiday, you MUST be prepared to find yourself in quarantine at either end of your trip, either going out or coming home. Regardless of the situation in place when you book, you simply cannot expect it to remain stable at the moment so have to plan accordingly.3 points

That’s the job description of all politics and all the media. The sole purpose of these two bodies is to present us with a series of new hobgoblins on a regular basis, most of them imaginary, and make the public so clamorous to be led to safety at any cost that we forget the mess they made after getting it wrong the last time. They know we have a short attention span and they use it.2 points

If we had a decent media they would point out how two faced the opposition is, but that's far too much to ask, as they are even worse.2 points

The Story Back in around 2008/2009 I owned a Radical and did a few track days before racing it a couple of times in 750 Motor Club Bikesports championship. I enjoyed that but was put off by the potential to eat money with engine rebuilds and any off track excursions, Radicals are not known for low cost racing. At the time the RGB formula was mainly road going kit cars with bike engines and I decided to buy and build a Westy to have a go in class C of that championship which was for 893/919 CBR engined cars. I bought the car below and set about building it up slowly around family life. During the time I was building it class C got dropped and it became a front versus rear engined 1000cc class with a reasonable number of front engined cars on track. I removed the 919 engine I had in the car at the time and got AB Performance to supply and fit a 2008 CBR 1000 motor, the engine of choice at the time. Over the next couple of years it became clear to anyone serious that rear engined was the way to go and now the class is purely rear engined race biased cars with barely a nod to the former kit car road going aspect. During this time kids got more demanding on time and my garage tinkering time now seems to be spent preparing and running my lads kart. The car has sat in the garage untouched for the past 5 years and I need to either commit to it , finish it off and have some track day fun possibly with a bit of sprinting or move it on and let someone else have a bit of fun with it. The Car The car is close to being finished and ready to drive, the chassis side needs wiring and a complete nut and bolt check where some things have been left loose waiting for a final set up. I have built the engine loom based on advice from Andy Bates at the time but of course this has not been tested. The main cost item left to complete is that an exhaust will need to be built and fitted, I know AB Performance have done this on many similar Westfields. Aesthetically the bonnet could do with a blow over to colour match the bump/wart I have fibreglassed on to cover the top of the taller motor. As explained, I was building it to put it on track so didn't major on creature comforts or bling. I built the car with lots of input from AB Performance, they aren't too far from me and it went there on a few occasions to have parts fabricated, notably the fitment of the CBR1000 motor. Andy was always on hand to give advice on what parts to use and I followed what he said, I've not scrimped on parts. Maybe this is something our merchandising folks can look at? Why not a WSCC face mask? Other than the fact that we get confused with West Surrey County Council it could be a winner...1 point

Hi everyone, was looking for a Quad bike on eBay today and seems I came across this same guy which lead me here after some thorough researching. Advised me to send him ID etc and to pay a shipping company under the name cargo-express-solutions which also seems to be very sketchy/fake site. He sent me a passport under the name Thomas Jager and an address located in 40 Carrer Quatre, Barcelona, Spain. Thought I would post this here to help out anyone else who may be researching these details to see if he's legit or not. He is NOT.1 point

Unfortunately everyone is in a no-win situation. The Government is Dammed almost no matter what it does, it will get told it did it too late, too early or not enough. Some bl**** expert will come and tell them they were wrong. But I've also got sympathy for the people who have holidays booked up as so often they cannot cancel and get their money back, it looks OK to go, they are sick of it all and just want to get away for a while, so off they go only to find when there they have to go into quarantine when back. I'm in this situation with a trip to Italy in September, booked last year, so no money back options, as your still fine to travel there, but what if you get there and it all goes into meltdown. Ah well, Decisions, decisions, it can wait till closer to the time.1 point

A brief gap in the rain for a bit of Saturday maintenance before a run out in the (hopefully!) sunshine tomorrow. One rear ARB drop link replaced (thanks @Westfield Parts Dept for the quick turnaround on the parts 👍) and spanner check the other side after the driver side did a runner 🤦.... and a quick top up of the diff oil due to my own paranoia/OCD 😂. The oil was nice and clear so not needing a full change quite yet.1 point

Hi Chris, I have a pair of panels I could sort you out with. Nothing wrong with them but I got a new pair from WF as have completely replaced all the interior on my car. The previous owner had fixed them to the top chassis rail with self tappers so each one has 3 holes. Am away at the moment so can't send any pictures but can send some when I get back if any use? When is your IVA (as am away until the 4th August) Thanks Nick1 point

To close the loop on my original post I took it to a small independent just down the road in the end after giving them a call. A true father and son outfit, which is nice to see in this corporate age. They do a few Morgan's, but mine was the first Westie. Very thorough, but sensible test. This is an important issue and as a driver and cyclist my comments are as follows. Cyclists should try to wear bright and distinctive clothing, section 66 of the Highway Code permits riding 2 abreast and I believe that motorists are supposed to leave 1.5metres between them and the cyclist. There are some idiot cyclists and motorists with no patience or consideration for each other which is not good. Just remember that if there is contact the cyclist will not come out best and some drivers do not give sufficient clearance and are impatient to pass even on narrow lanes with blind bends. Lets hope we all put our brains in gear when on the road.1 point

North coast can be pretty spectacular. But yes, west coast and Skye are lovely. Skye in particular is pretty jaw-droppingly spectacular in places.1 point

year to date, 6849 miles recorded on 2 wheels. I try and ride on less busy roads. I get a bit shouty and offer some finger pointing when some one gives me a close one. As a whole I get very few issues, it's just the reality is on a bike you're so vulnerable and other road users don't always appreciate that. Troubles are largely either pure A-holes / mobile phone users. But then there are the inapt on the roads too. These are the ones who are not confident to overtake, when they do it's so slow and close.. I simply try and get out of their way. In the beginning of lock down I had quite a bit of anti cyclist abuse and people swerving at me!!!!! I often don't use cycle-ways and living in Milton keynes we have redways where bikes and pedestrians fight it out. Simply it's safer for all to ride on the road and avoid people with headphones, suicide dogs, glass etc. I was put in hospital 15 months ago when I was passing parked cars and some one opened their car door at precisely the wrong moment. I'd usually give parked cars 1.5 m gap but there had been a van coming towards me turning up a junction. The sharp edge of the door hit me in the chest, I was doing ~ 20 mph. Dislocated my sternum, meaning the lower section was torn from top section, forced in, and pushed up under the upper section. The nice Dr after xray basically said they didn't know what heart or surrounding damage I might have. Assuming I survived the next 24 hours I should be ok. I was fully wired up for almost 24 hours. I only set the alarm off a few times when my blood pressure dropped through the floor. After told not to lift more then 5kg for 12 weeks etc.. Full recovery made now but not something i'd like to repeat. Regardless of fault it's the bike rider who is the one most likely to get killed or serious injured and no one deserves that for hogging to much road, offending some ones eyes or wobbling to avoid a pot hole or even ridding 3 a breast.0 points

I have just received a message from LDMC informing me that the Oct sprint weekend has been cancelled due to the problems with Covid 19. People who are already booked to attend will receive a full refund. Looks like everyone will have to look forward to 2021 !!0 points
