  1. Hello Thank you to all of you who took the time to vote on the poll or offer your volunteering skills with regards to the National Kit Car Show at Stoneleigh. Using those results and after care full consideration the organising team have come to the difficult decision not to have our usual large presence at this years event. This in essence means that the marquee, refreshments and hog roast will not unfortunately be available for members to enjoy this year. So, with this in mind, they say it's not over 'till the fat lady sings and we're looking at the possibility of some live feeds over the event weekend so we can still showcase the stands and stalls and give you a "virtual " Stoneleigh experience. We should hopefully get confirmation soon on a parking area for members to congregate, pick-nick, put up flags and generally promote all things Westfield and, I'm also waiting on further details on camping arrangements and any restrictions that may be in place for our hardier members. I know like myself and the rest of the organising team that this is a huge disappointment to you all but, we felt that during these challenging and changeable times it is the most responsible decision we as a club can make. Please keep a look out for further updates and stay safe. Regards Gail Jones Shows and Events Coordinator

  2. I know - that surprised me. Apparently it’s only motorhomes and caravans as they have their own loos and showers? But we did see tents on the beach front at Applecross - maybe they were “day tents” - anyway sorry to divert the thread so here’s another pic (mine’s in there honest!)

  3. As a way to pass some time during my furlough, I have invested in some cutting and pressing gear, along with teaching myself how to use open source photo editors and illustrators. First result, my "Pre-Lit Pop Art" tee shirt.

  4. I would say this thread "belongs" equally to everyone who has contributed, it can live wherever it will most benefit everyone 👍

  5. I wonder if this excellent thread, which just by reading it makes me proud to be a member of the club, would be better served in the Members Only area. It seems a little misplaced as none of this has been “Stuff” or “Nonsense“ and moving it there would make it visible for our eyes only as club members (non-searchable on Google), which might make others feel more comfortable about opening up and discussing things. Just a thought.

  12. Thanks Ian - you've probably forgotten I'm originally from Yorkshire - discount already claimed, AND they are modifying the design to work with the standard Spal fan supplied by Westfield, but mounted on the daft metal frame with gaps all around the edge.... Saves buying a new fan when I already have a perfectly good one

  13. Hi Bolt, Been thinking about getting back into Westfield ownership for a while and building a road-legal hillclimb car with potential for day trips round the Cotswolds. Your project car look like it fits the bill. One quick question does the car come with a V5? If it does, do the numbers match the plates on the car? I only ask as have heard that old Westfields sometimes do not have matching V5 and chassis plate. Thanks....Paul

  15. The Story Back in around 2008/2009 I owned a Radical and did a few track days before racing it a couple of times in 750 Motor Club Bikesports championship. I enjoyed that but was put off by the potential to eat money with engine rebuilds and any off track excursions, Radicals are not known for low cost racing. At the time the RGB formula was mainly road going kit cars with bike engines and I decided to buy and build a Westy to have a go in class C of that championship which was for 893/919 CBR engined cars. I bought the car below and set about building it up slowly around family life. During the time I was building it class C got dropped and it became a front versus rear engined 1000cc class with a reasonable number of front engined cars on track. I removed the 919 engine I had in the car at the time and got AB Performance to supply and fit a 2008 CBR 1000 motor, the engine of choice at the time. Over the next couple of years it became clear to anyone serious that rear engined was the way to go and now the class is purely rear engined race biased cars with barely a nod to the former kit car road going aspect. During this time kids got more demanding on time and my garage tinkering time now seems to be spent preparing and running my lads kart. The car has sat in the garage untouched for the past 5 years and I need to either commit to it , finish it off and have some track day fun possibly with a bit of sprinting or move it on and let someone else have a bit of fun with it. The Car The car is close to being finished and ready to drive, the chassis side needs wiring and a complete nut and bolt check where some things have been left loose waiting for a final set up. I have built the engine loom based on advice from Andy Bates at the time but of course this has not been tested. The main cost item left to complete is that an exhaust will need to be built and fitted, I know AB Performance have done this on many similar Westfields. Aesthetically the bonnet could do with a blow over to colour match the bump/wart I have fibreglassed on to cover the top of the taller motor. As explained, I was building it to put it on track so didn't major on creature comforts or bling. I built the car with lots of input from AB Performance, they aren't too far from me and it went there on a few occasions to have parts fabricated, notably the fitment of the CBR1000 motor. Andy was always on hand to give advice on what parts to use and I followed what he said, I've not scrimped on parts. 22. On the flipside, there may be people who are contemplating posting on this post but the thought of putting that information out on an open forum post for anyone using to Google to come across may put them off. Either way we can only hope it inspires somebody to make that step needed to seek help and support.

  23. I think Blyton's getting a bit tighter on noise.. maybe since Ginetta took over? It's down as 95db drive by compared to Donny's 98db. Perhaps not comparable .. dunno. As far as I know Snetterton doesn't have a particularly problem with noise. 105db static ..same as most.

  28. Hi Chris, Your Megane looks like a dedicated track tool. I don’t track the Clio, it’s my more practical daily ‭driver, not that I’ve been anywhere in it since March! It’s overdue a timing belt and has the ‘usual’ synchromesh issues with the gearbox. Jobs for next couple of weeks. Until a couple of years ago I used to do some rallying. I quite fancy doing some Sprinting before I’m too old!

  29. Aye, and when bought by none enthusiasts, or even enthusiasts that have just never had anything similar before, there can be a real rose tinted glasses view of them - summer Sunday runs to the pub sort of thing. The novelty can very quickly wear off when they realise their significant other etc refuses to even set foot in the car! Let alone go touring. Or the other common one, is that cars get "upgraded" way past what the owner is comfortable with actually driving.

  32. All other thing being equal, I'd rather see it where it get's most traffic, which I suspect is possibly exactly where it is! To me, part of the point/benefit is to not be "hidden away" (I know that's absolutely not the intent behind suggesting the move, by the way!) But maybe if some would feel more comfortable discussing personal things in a more private, fellow members only area, perhaps we could put a second thread in the members only section, linked to from this one?

  42. Jude, I hope that you are ok and please as mentioned please do shout out and we will answer. If not us then MIND 0300 123 3393 are excellent and open to all callers. Not broken myself and bizarrely feeling 'head and heart' better as out of the rat race and commute cycle, working from home surrounded by family. I thought this would be a nightmare but actually really nice. I am lucky, but I'm very aware others may find themselves in a less than great position. We too have witnessed a neighbour suffering and stepped in with an offer to chat and it has had a positive outcome to date.
