  1. Snapped on Sunday driving into a very well organised, socially distanced classic car meet at Statfold Railway Museum. Unusually they charged for each show car and massively capped the visitor numbers but they'd invested a lot of time and money in effective Covid precautions. Pre-paid tickets only, capped display car numbers, personal temperature checks on arrival, one way systems, sensible (enforced) gaps between cars and social distancing marshall's patrolling constantly... All with sign off from the local authorities. At least it shows car meets can be done safely! 👏👏👏

  2. Last Sunday, 5th July, we had what I thought was going to be a small, quiet run out to Squires Coffee Bar, but as these things do, it got bigger. 7 car met at Rothwell Sports centre then headed over to Sherburn. With the opening of cafes on the previous day, Squires was full of bikes. We managed to all get parked up with Frank who had come on his own. Shortly after, 2 more joined us, so that made 8 Westfields and 2 MNRs. With the cafe busy, we decided to drive through Sherburn to the Areoclub, but due to the high winds both the cafe and airfield were closed. This was the first proper run after lockdown, with hopefully more to come.

  14. Train incoming. Had to stich a couple of videos together so hopefully it has worked. Very cold day, happy we got this one good session together. New battery required after today's issues.

  15. Well .. despite the awful weather, I did enjoy the day. Had some good fun chasing Phil and Mike, and we even got a small train going at one point. The Rain expert tyres performed better than I thought they would. Absolutely no problem with the standing water, and pretty good in the twisty bits. On track I felt I was flying but the vids I've seen so far look horrendously slow. There were plenty of race Caterhams and MX5s that made that point all too clear.. 😉 It was a shame we got split up in the paddock, .. the B team's pitch was just a bit far to walk to in the rain. 😃 Didn't take many pics, here's a few:

  19. The ratio can be done by turning the input and counting the outputs but to tell what type of diff it is you will need to remove the drive shafts.

  20. A profile is added to a cartridge output to compensate for lack of bass if I remember rightly. I've forgotten exactly what it's called but there's a string of initials that refer. More later... RIAA equalisation curve. It reduces bass when recording to reduce groove width and thereby allow longer recording times, and the pre-amp corrects this bass reduction by applying the inverse curve. I have an LP of Richard Strauss's Also Sprach Zarathustra (the well known opening music from 2001, a Space Odyssey comes from this tone poem) on the Decca Phase Four label and there's such a level of distortion at one point that I seriously thought that my (quite pricey) deck was to blame. It turns out that any deck it's played on does the same. I still have both the deck and the LP but neither has seen action for some years. Edited to clarify the groove width section.

  22. I read a theory recently that the reason vinyl sounds warmer is that they limit the bass frequencies. Because proper bass would rattle the needle out of the groove.

  25. "Use (a) straw, dear Bernie, use a Straw - A STRAW!" (apologies to Harry Belafonte). Apropos the bleedin' obvious, the 'experts' were pontificating ad nauseam about how useless - counterproductive, even - face masks were in the early days. It seemed obvious to me that while masks are pretty useless as protection for the wearer, but that they are very useful to prevent an infected wearer from gobbing virus particles at others. Try spitting at someone whilst wearing a mask! Why did it take so f*****n' long for the common sense to dawn? 😷
