I've not got time for this and I'm not going to ask "what time was it in the Neverland Ranch, when the big hand is on the little hand" 😉5 points

Oh god, I can't face this! Better watch what I say, I'm a bit strapped for time to think up time piece related puns, I'm buckling under the strain!4 points

Yeah, it's probably nothing like the media are reporting, it was probably leaked that it was getting a paint job as part of routine maintenance + refit, and when the press found out it was going to have the racist flag of oppression added to it, they knew they had a great story, especially in the current climate. I for one think it's brilliant, I want a govt that is not ashamed to show the world that we are British.3 points

You need to up your game Andrew - I mean most of us do that in the first few weeks 🤣2 points

So as you can see I am already confused about engines and I haven't even got to the factory. I would want to understand it because I don't really want a "new" engine for which spares are becoming scarce. Meantime, you may have noticed that I have joined the club properly and paid my money. Creeping commitment!2 points

I have no problem with this. We are not a two bob country and when you weigh in security and that many flights taken seats are sold to press etc then it is not too extravagant. Remember this was Tony Blair's idea, dubbed Blair Force One, to have a prime ministerial plane which raised no eyebrows then. I want us to be seen as a world power and I bet this is all rolled into a regular refit rather than a whim of fancy so to make an entrance showing the union Jack Colour is a good thing in my mind. Opposition politicians will always sight better things to spend money on and are happy to fund half baked ideas overseas as part of international aid rather than promote the UK2 points

Putting aside the claims of completed tests which does sound incorrect. Around 350000 people who wanted and screamed for the tests have not done them despite having the kit. Am I reading that correctly ?2 points

Welcome aboard! Westfields are excellent for touring. Mine has been to 23 countries so far - and all of those were in the first 3 months of registering it. With a well set up car you can rack up serious miles in them without it tiring you out. Space is naturally a little limited so you have to pack light and smart, but if you're coming from biking I doubt that'll be much of a concern for you!1 point

Solution is we need to start making 'stuff' again. The sheer amount of supplies we are having to bring in from China and other places throughout the pandemic illustrates this perfectly. But to do this we'd need to ween everyone off cheap imported stuff (tax it?). Simplistic view I know but with the B word looming we need to be more self sufficient. The economy would only grow if we did.1 point

Zetecs are plentiful, common Westfield fitment and loads of spares are easily available. So no worry there. Duratec is a newer design and most would agree a better engine. The Duratec will mate to a Mazda gearbox which is a much newer design than the ancient type 9 mated to a Zetec. However, type 9s are still supported widely in classic motorsport. Be aware that Type 9 gearboxes have a useless first gear unless you get an expensive uprated one. I have a Zetec and an uprated type 9. I’m very happy. If buying new now I’d likely opt for a duratec and Mazda combo as that’s probably not much different to what a crate Zetec and uprated type 9 work out at these days.1 point

They look like the bigger brakes, so you will probably need to be careful about wheel selection1 point

It's not actually 900k for the paint work. The Voyager is at Marshall's aerospace for a routine 24 month inspection, part of which is an overall replay. Its mandated every 2 years anyway. The total cost which still isnt 900k, covers the entire work being done. The extra cost is basically just a design review1 point

If you do only manage to get a 200 omex will upgrade it to a 600 for £240 inc postage for you. I know that because I have just had mine upgraded from them.1 point

The paint job alone won't be 900k. Normally for an a330 size aircraft your more like 150k for a full paint. Id imagine the 900k is the total cost for its maintenance check and the paint. Some places are reporting that its only the tail and aft section thats getting painted. In which case it will be even less for the paint job.1 point

I’ve got no issue with the plane. It’s an inevitable requirement of the job to have a plane. I’m not convinced it’s good value for money when the plane is already painted. It could have waited until the plane actually needed the respray. Maybe he can get the Jag painted to match after it’s repaired if he’s so keen on it. 😄1 point
-
Ignoring for the moment the benefits of a respray, this seems remarkably expensive. Anyone know why it is so costly? Is it some sort of 2-part special paint? Do they have to put the whole plane inside a big oven to cook it? Do they use a 1” brush?1 point

Well - ok not very technical. But I just love the 13” wheels even though I had very light 15””. Much more “compliant”, seem to give more “feel”, less harsh ride on the road even with arb’s attached and as a bonus - look great! I used to detach arb’s when on the road due to “chatter“ I could feel with 15” - now I’m happy road & track.1 point

A bit of impromptu ignition map tinkering had a bit of an unforeseen consequence of a big backfire that blew my ITBs off! Of course it’s all my own fault - well with a little bit of influence from @AdamR 😁 Basically, my ignition map has a few odd looking sites where the advance is just way different to the surrounding sites. I had a conversation with Adam about this a while back and it’s always niggled at me. But every time I have tried to alter it, the car runs like a bag of hammers - and today was no different. Except that the consequence of the tinkering was to produce a backfire that literally blew the throttle bodies off! So I managed to bung them back on and limp back home and restore the original map. But it still didn’t run right and my afr was seriously lean at low throttle opening and tickover was just not happening. I figured the backfire must have knocked the bodies out of balance. After an hour or more with the vac gauges I just could not get no1 cylinder to show much vacuum at all and they just would not balance. I discovered that a blanking plug was leaking - bingo! Or so I thought. But no. Still the same. But it did lead me to look at what could possibly cause this. Turned out that the backfire had actually bent the butterfly on no 1 body! I managed to straighten it up and the result was much better! That will do me 😁 So the dodgy looking map is back, the butterflies line up, the TPS is set and the balance is fine. Running sweet! Back to exactly where it was four hours earlier! Missed the run out where I was supposed to meet @Nick - Joint North East AO to play with his new TVR though - weather was lovely too damn it! (courtesy of Nick’s drone) Moral of the story. If it ain’t broke...1 point

The EAO items require the back to be unscrewed to enable you to remove the front bezel and then pull the pushbutton out to access the lamp. I imagine the APEM items will be similar. Here's the complete switch (apart from the contact block). The red line represents the dash face: After removing the contact block with the special tool, you unscrew this piece: You can then pull it apart: The push button (with the green lens still attached) needs a firm pull to remove: The green lens cover can be unscrewed off the translucent part: If the button had a legend, it would be sandwiched in here. The bulb lives in here: The bulb, is not shown fitted, as all my bulbs are in the switches fitted to the car. I've got a spare push button in my office. Hope this helps?1 point

Now for controversy---------------------------------------------- from Dream Weekend in Spain, Circuit de Calafat, Barcelona. By maurici, November 1, 2019 in Track Days. "Caterham S3 275R- This one was driven hard in mountain roads and in the track. Surprisingly, I enjoyed every bit of her. Out of the box, felt SOOOOOOOOOOO much better than our average Westfield (sorry guys, I'm a sinner) Ergonomy, and pedal feel was just outstanding, and I felt really confortable in her despite its narrow chasis."😐0 points
