Hi all, So after parking the Westy in the garage in 2007 (and my old membership expiring) and then starting house renovation which turned into extension and then daughter is born and then 2nd extension followed by 2nd daughter and then loft conversion I am finally done (or broken!), so it's time to blow the cobwebs off the old neglected girl, strip it down and repowder coat and then rebuild it to what I always wanted first time around! Full cage, throttle bodies, widetrack some carbon maybe....... Unfortunately due to the lockdown it has come to a grinding halt again....😂 Here we go........ All the best all Glen8 points

For those wondering about the lack of progress, we’ll the truth is there has been very little. a few weeks before the Coronavirus lockdown kicked in I’d trailered the car to the exhaust fabricators to get the manifold made and unfortunately it’s been stuck there ever since. So I’ve been doing what few little jobs I can without a car in the garage. one of those tasks was the final welding on the rear uprights. The parts I’d tacked together were boxed up and posted down the road for them to be welded, and then returned again a few days ago all nicely TIG welded.5 points

I will redesign the stacks so they can be adjusted in length whilst the car is on the rollers. That way the printed set can be a throw away item after tuning.2 points

As it has been about 6 weeks since my first post and the Motorsport UK suspension all events until the end of June 2020 I thought a quick update was required. It is clear that we are very much in the hands of the Goverment and Motorsport Uk with respect go when we can get out on track again. It is the intention of the SSOT to continually review the situation as and when we receive information. Personally I think that the end of May is a date when we will need to consider the best way forward regarding this season and also our July Blyton weekend trackday and Sprints. We are in a fortunate position in that if we start in July 2020 we still have 22 events left in our calendar. Even if we started at the beginning of August we still have 14 events remaining. Our Regulations will need reviewing in terms of the championships and awards etc as well as the Awards Dinner. So let's hope that the situation continues to improve and that people are free from any risk of contracting the virus before we commence. Stay safe everyone Terry2 points

That’s becAuse you have the deft touch of a delicate flower. With my heavy handed, steel toe cap boot wearing inputs, spinning away a bit of power on the inside wheel is handy.... All that said, I now have a 3J NXG ABC 123 LSD2 points

Hi all - I only live a few miles from Curborough, and as a keen amateur photographer, I often visit for photography practice and just to get an occasional fix of petrol and rubber smells.... I've just been clearing through a load of old photos and found a few Westie shots - many are from long before I got my own Westie. I've created an album in my Flickr account, with low-resolution thumbnails - if anyone would like a higher-resolution version of any of the images, just let me know and I'll sort something out. They are completely un-edited and most will certainly be able to be improved upon with a bit of post-processing (although a few are slightly blurry - nothing I can do about that...) Many are semi-duplicated, where I just kept my finger on the shutter release Westfields at Curborough2 points

..... 3 Years later. After much deliberation I finally decided to update the look of my now 26 year old narrow body Westfield and thought I'd share my progress. I initially wanted to do an engine swap as the 1700 crossflow had started to seem a little less exciting than it did when I built it back in 1994 and I fancied something with a little more grunt. The trouble was that my car with it's clamshell wings and classic chrome didn't (in my eyes) have the look of something sporty so I decided to try and give the car a more modern Westfield look. I had already bought some Caterham prisoner edition wheels a couple of years ago so although not exactly modern I had to go with them. They fit perfectly with no spacers and I do like them. I wanted to fit the later style metro mirrors so bought some later style pillars. I know people have fitted these to narrow bodied cars in the past but after comparing them to my old ones I just couldn't see how they would neatly fit without modifying them and cutting the screen fillet. You can see the difference in this photo. I eventually made my own pillars by modifying an old set and painting them black. The mirrors fit exactly the same way as the Westfield ones and I could still use the standard screen fillet. I never did like the old 'goalpost' type roll bar as I always thought it needed a larger diameter tube and the radius on the corners always looked too tight. I fitted a later style wide body roll bar. these are really just for show as they just bolt on from underneath with a single high tensile bolt at either end. It's a tight fit but just slots inside the body. I decided to remove the hood completely and make my own boot lid / storage box. Westfield never did these for the narrow cars as far as I know so I designed and made my own version from GRP by making some plugs and moulds. I designed it to sit neatly around my roll bar and its lockable so quite handy as well. I removed the tan interior and changed it to black re-covering the dash and carpeting the side panels and tunnel. I also treated it to a new Momo steering wheel which I'd had for ages but never got around to fitting. I bought some second hand wishbones which i painted black and fitted them with a new set of Spax shocks and black springs that I'd had sitting in my loft for several years. I've kept all the chrome from the car just in case I ever want to go back. I tried to fit some Caterham indicator pods but found they pointed slightly downwards? when fitted to the Westfield lamp brackets. Rather than buy some more I made my own from GRP making a plug and mould, I also fitted smaller 5 3/4" black headlamps as well. The old Custom Chrome exhaust had lasted really well but I doubt if it had much if any wadding left in it so I purchase a new re-packable stainless silencer and made a stainless link pipe. A common problem with narrow body cars is the limited availability of suitable seats due to the base and shoulder width restrictions (38cm on my car). I decided I liked the look of the GRP style race seats but couldn't find any with the right dimensions that I liked so decided to have a go at making some myself. These took ages to mock up, make moulds, make bases and finish but they fit me and the car perfectly. Although this all started as an engine swap idea I still have the crossflow, I removed and re-built it anyway as it will probably still be in for at least another couple of years. I did contemplate going for a colour change on the body but eventually decided to keep it black, I re-painted the whole car and yes did finally go with the cycle wings. Paul.2 points

Thanks all... Regarding the trestles....I had removed the engine already and that was mounted on its stand, so I used the engine crane.....the bottom was twitching for a few seconds. Having a audience (my 2 daughters) never helps with comments like 'Dad, wont that fall off, and yes that would be funny (the youngest!). Anyway it's still sat there. On a positive note, getting it down will be easy as I will have gravity on my side!!!1 point

Right then, as promised....in no particular order but as you can see this was all fitted to my one but I have ordered new uprights, hubs, calipers shocks and wide track. The uprights weigh approx 1350 grammes (each) and the hubs are alloy, I would replace the discs but they may well clean up, the pistons are free and this lot has only ever done approx 3600 miles but it has just been sat in garage unused for a long time! Shame powder coating has started flaking making things look worse😔 Regards Glen1 point

@Chrisn01just use some wire as shorting links rather than mess about getting switches or just go for the savage switches. my switch install has altered the std wiring pretty drastically anyway1 point

Pretty sure there are certain types of LSD that behave differently to the “norm” and thus it’s not a “guaranteed” means of identifying an open diff (ie if it contra rotates then normally it’s open, but not always! But rotating same way is an lsd) Allegedly 😁 of course I could be talking tosh as usual 🤪1 point

A little update, I’m really enjoying the learning experience messing about on tinkercad, I want to move to Fusion 360 but need tutorials to get started. For now, I’ve designed and printed a couple of printer upgrades (it’s the printer law apparently! and now working on parts for work. Im getting requests for counter screens, and my last versions were a) temporary and b) over engineered/heavy gauge. I've designed a bracket to accept 25mm upright support legs - pictured, currently working on joiners and spacers. Happy for any constructive feedback or tips.1 point
