  1. Hi all - I only live a few miles from Curborough, and as a keen amateur photographer, I often visit for photography practice and just to get an occasional fix of petrol and rubber smells.... I've just been clearing through a load of old photos and found a few Westie shots - many are from long before I got my own Westie. I've created an album in my Flickr account, with low-resolution thumbnails - if anyone would like a higher-resolution version of any of the images, just let me know and I'll sort something out. They are completely un-edited and most will certainly be able to be improved upon with a bit of post-processing (although a few are slightly blurry - nothing I can do about that...) Many are semi-duplicated, where I just kept my finger on the shutter release Westfields at Curborough

  2. ..... 3 Years later. After much deliberation I finally decided to update the look of my now 26 year old narrow body Westfield and thought I'd share my progress. I initially wanted to do an engine swap as the 1700 crossflow had started to seem a little less exciting than it did when I built it back in 1994 and I fancied something with a little more grunt. The trouble was that my car with it's clamshell wings and classic chrome didn't (in my eyes) have the look of something sporty so I decided to try and give the car a more modern Westfield look. I had already bought some Caterham prisoner edition wheels a couple of years ago so although not exactly modern I had to go with them. They fit perfectly with no spacers and I do like them. I wanted to fit the later style metro mirrors so bought some later style pillars. I know people have fitted these to narrow bodied cars in the past but after comparing them to my old ones I just couldn't see how they would neatly fit without modifying them and cutting the screen fillet. You can see the difference in this photo. I eventually made my own pillars by modifying an old set and painting them black. The mirrors fit exactly the same way as the Westfield ones and I could still use the standard screen fillet. I never did like the old 'goalpost' type roll bar as I always thought it needed a larger diameter tube and the radius on the corners always looked too tight. I fitted a later style wide body roll bar. these are really just for show as they just bolt on from underneath with a single high tensile bolt at either end. It's a tight fit but just slots inside the body. I decided to remove the hood completely and make my own boot lid / storage box. Westfield never did these for the narrow cars as far as I know so I designed and made my own version from GRP by making some plugs and moulds. I designed it to sit neatly around my roll bar and its lockable so quite handy as well. I removed the tan interior and changed it to black re-covering the dash and carpeting the side panels and tunnel. I also treated it to a new Momo steering wheel which I'd had for ages but never got around to fitting. I bought some second hand wishbones which i painted black and fitted them with a new set of Spax shocks and black springs that I'd had sitting in my loft for several years. I've kept all the chrome from the car just in case I ever want to go back. I tried to fit some Caterham indicator pods but found they pointed slightly downwards? when fitted to the Westfield lamp brackets. Rather than buy some more I made my own from GRP making a plug and mould, I also fitted smaller 5 3/4" black headlamps as well. The old Custom Chrome exhaust had lasted really well but I doubt if it had much if any wadding left in it so I purchase a new re-packable stainless silencer and made a stainless link pipe. A common problem with narrow body cars is the limited availability of suitable seats due to the base and shoulder width restrictions (38cm on my car). I decided I liked the look of the GRP style race seats but couldn't find any with the right dimensions that I liked so decided to have a go at making some myself. These took ages to mock up, make moulds, make bases and finish but they fit me and the car perfectly. Although this all started as an engine swap idea I still have the crossflow, I removed and re-built it anyway as it will probably still be in for at least another couple of years. I did contemplate going for a colour change on the body but eventually decided to keep it black, I re-painted the whole car and yes did finally go with the cycle wings. Paul.

  3. So... My partner its been experimenting with new painting technichs... and she has done this... I think is rather beautifull and impressive, so... Iยดm sharing it! (its a bit of her own interpretation of a curborough bend by the way...) Some have already seen it unfinished in facebook... so here it is the final result!

  5. Hi all Just got an email with another policy up for renewal, at quite a markup from last year. I have got two "toys" on the road plus two which are active projects and of course the tintop. Every car has its own policy. Has anyone tried to get a multi car policy set up which includes kit cars and classic cars without the quotes being ridiculous?

  8. Gents, Well we are still in lockdown, the virtual Skype meet worked well earlier this month, so i thought we could go for a repeat virtual meeting for May. I have deliberately set this up early to give folk a chance to familiarise themselves with Skype video calling. So for those that attended last time you should have a Skype notification, with meeting set in the calendar. For those that would like to give it a go, send me a PM with your email / Skype address and i will add you to the group chat. Think the Skype call can be accessed via web so you may not need to download the app. We will see! Someone more knowledgable than me will let me know. Gents, Due to the current state of the nation/world, i thought would give it a go to have a virtual Skype meet. So for those that are interested send me a PM with your email address and i will add you to the group chat and email or PM you back the link to join. 11. Hi and welcome! Post lockdown you are welcome to come to our meetings, no Mazda engined cars attend regularly though. We do go to the monthly breakfast meets at Curborough Sprint Course where we sometimes get a wide variety of Westfields.

  14. A little update, Iโ€™m really enjoying the learning experience messing about on tinkercad, I want to move to Fusion 360 but need tutorials to get started. For now, Iโ€™ve designed and printed a couple of printer upgrades (itโ€™s the printer law apparently! and now working on parts for work. Im getting requests for counter screens, and my last versions were a) temporary and b) over engineered/heavy gauge. I've designed a bracket to accept 25mm upright support legs - pictured, currently working on joiners and spacers. Happy for any constructive feedback or tips.

  15. @si_salisbury 267 that sounds fun! Thanks for the offer, a day out in the Peak District in a Westie sounds awesome. I do travel around the country for work so this could also be an option once the restrictions are lifted.

  16. Hi @Turbo_Jimmy, Iโ€™m not that local to as Iโ€™m based just on the outskirts of Peterborough, I currently drive 1.8 Turbo mx5 powered Westfield(267BHP at the wheel), if your ever over this direction give us a shout and I could meet you somewhere and take you for a drive, or keep you eye out when the lockdown has ended on here and I do try to meet up at the Peak District for a days fun of driving, you could always meet there in your tin top and jump in with me for the day.๐Ÿ‘ like you I asked the same question 2 years ago not knowing what is best to go for and like everyone is saying keep your opinions open. P.S welcome simon

  17. Hi I'm not sure if this right place to post this or not, if not please move to correct area. I have been talking to softbits about a storm cap. But unfortunately I'm not in the West Sussex area. They currently need some help from a FW / MSA roll bar Westfield car owner in the west Sussex area. SBFS Team We don't currently make a storm cap to suit the MSA roll bar and FW bodywork and we are looking for a volunteer to assist us with their car to develop this, if you are close to West Sussex or know anyone has the an FW MSA Westfield and is close to us it would be much appreciated. Kind regards SBFS Team Tristan Howard Soft Bits for Sevens <juddltd@gmail.com>

  22. Also note - by โ€œCortinaโ€, Iain means Cortina geometry and fitment. So Westfield alloy or other uprights and suitable calipers would also work. ๐Ÿ‘

  30. Mark, I've hidden your post. Can I recommend PMing your address to Tim, rather than posting in on this thread. This is a public area of the forum and is Google indexed to boot, so your address will appear widely across the internet if posted here, and show up in Google searches related to you, your car, etc...
