  1. Can't you hang your driving stuff in the garage was the latest self-isolation question from my wife? Apparently she needs more room for her clothes...... So starting with an old metal locker, an angle grinder, rivet gun and some sticky backed vinyl I can now hang my stuff in the garage. The only real expense was the repro globe. but she seemed to be happy when i told her it was only £20 It's a bit shonky but it will fool the grandkids.....

  2. Just to briefly drag the thread back to its origin, looks like the Dutch embassy pulled it out of the bag and got him on a flight back as far as Germany at least. No plans beyond there yet, but at least he'll be closer to home by tomorrow morning!

  4. Knocked this up yesterday, 12mm ply covered in veltrim, and a £6 stereo-delete cubby. It just wedges in, because I need to get to the main fuse blocks behind it. It'll do for ear plugs etc - defo function over form.

  8. I've always had a "woven" stainless grille in the nosecone of my Westie - it looks decent, and is durable and strong. However, I now have my new carbon nosecone (which sadly has to go back, as the paint code for Chrome Yellow was nothing like the actual colour of my car) However, I'm not sure the stainless grille suits the new nosecone and I'm wondering if a different grille would suit better So - looking at the pictures below, do you have any suggestions?

  15. Hi Ash, I was only playing with Tom! These great tool rolls were free for all members who attended Stoneleigh some years ago. Back in the days when we could meeting groups etc 😉 There were some left overs and some AO's kindly agreed to take them to distribute to any of their members who'd not made it to Stoneleigh etc. Hence why Tom has probably found 2 in his loft. I find mine really useful and I'm not surprised they've gone so quickly! Sorry if my faint attempt at humour has failed!

  20. I'm self -isolating due to my medical vulnerability but also fortunate to be able to WFH and conduct 90% of my work via PC and Phone so not feeling that impact. However, I am keenly aware of the impact on others lives and economic situation. I am in the same camp of we are in this for 3 months with 3 weekly updates and need to follow the Govt advice as a nation or we will just end up repeating the lock down with far more damaging consequences! As for the 'needy' press who want absolute dates and timings for the future exit strategy - they asked the same for BREXIT and couldn't be told that as it was out of the control of the Govt and CV is definitely OUT OF THEIR CONTROL. Now is not the time to look back at how we did this or that but to focus on the options going forward and Boris has the weighty task of balancing Public/National Health against the Economy and future strength of the Country - all whilst trying to placate his own MPs and others from the House. I for one am looking forward to his return to Captain the ship - mainly because the SHip needs a SINGLE Captain to DIRECT it (with factual guidance from his scientific and medical and economic advisors). What can we do? I think we can follow the direction as mentioned - If only the DARWIN effect was actually allowed to rule in this day and age, then the muppets would be eradicated (instead of us saving their lives so they can breed more muppets). We can support local and small (UK) businesses that will help to keep our money in the UK to grow the economy back up. We can also ensure that we hold the Govt AND other MPs to account with their promises and pledges and that funding is followed through into reality - more nurses, doctors (inc GPs), police, etc - more infrastructure on the essentials - hospitals, schools, care homes, mental health (We are going to see this spike soon). Oh yes and a final one - think of your Armed Forces that are currently deployed across the UK and World in support of the Governments Policies and at home in the UK helping out here there and everywhere, lots of praise for them but only when they are needed; Floods, Fire Strike, Ambulance Strike, Foot and Mouth, Olympics Security, Riots, Police Support, Search & Rescue, Ant-terrorism, etc etc - Simply substitute Soldiers for Nurses, Doctors, Bus Drivers, Truckers, Shop Assistants, Carers - I think Rudyard Kipling got it right with First published, under the title "The Queen's Uniform", in W.E. Henley’s weekly Scots Observer on 1 March 1890 I WENT into a public 'ouse to get a pint o' beer, The publican 'e up an' sez, " We serve no red-coats here." The girls be'ind the bar they laughed an' giggled fit to die, I outs into the street again an' to myself sez I: O it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' " Tommy, go away " ; But it's " Thank you, Mister Atkins," when the band begins to play The band begins to play, my boys, the band begins to play, O it's " Thank you, Mister Atkins," when the band begins to play. I went into a theatre as sober as could be, They gave a drunk civilian room, but 'adn't none for me; They sent me to the gallery or round the music-'alls, But when it comes to fightin', Lord! they'll shove me in the stalls! For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' " Tommy, wait outside "; But it's " Special train for Atkins " when the trooper's on the tide The troopship's on the tide, my boys, the troopship's on the tide, O it's " Special train for Atkins " when the trooper's on the tide. Yes, makin' mock o' uniforms that guard you while you sleep Is cheaper than them uniforms, an' they're starvation cheap. An' hustlin' drunken soldiers when they're goin' large a bit Is five times better business than paradin' in full kit. Then it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an` Tommy, 'ow's yer soul? " But it's " Thin red line of 'eroes " when the drums begin to roll The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll, O it's " Thin red line of 'eroes, " when the drums begin to roll. We aren't no thin red 'eroes, nor we aren't no blackguards too, But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you; An' if sometimes our conduck isn't all your fancy paints, Why, single men in barricks don't grow into plaster saints; While it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an` Tommy, fall be'ind," But it's " Please to walk in front, sir," when there's trouble in the wind There's trouble in the wind, my boys, there's trouble in the wind, O it's " Please to walk in front, sir," when there's trouble in the wind. You talk o' better food for us, an' schools, an' fires, an' all: We'll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational. Don't mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face The Widow's Uniform is not the soldier-man's disgrace. For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an` Chuck him out, the brute! " But it's " Saviour of 'is country " when the guns begin to shoot; An' it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' anything you please; An 'Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool - you bet that Tommy sees!

  22. Absolutely, i watched the daily press conference yesterday for my sins. Journalism in this country really must be at its lowest ebb ever. The amount of repeated questions from the journo's was embarrassing.

  23. That's it. The Media don't reflect pubic opinion but largely influence it. My wife tells me something each day about something she has become a world orthority in regarding CV19. I just ask where the information has come from. "they say that xxxx" who are they? and whats there gain. I can't watch the press conferences because its the same stupid questions asked with different words. I'm sure with 20:20 vision things could have been done different but the reality is the only information they had was from china which simply lied/ covered up/useless, and Italy is only a few weeks a head of us.

  24. @AndrewOBW That is great news and I hope he can finish the journey soon. I expect he'll need a 'holiday' after all this...or a lock down! As and when we get a Stoneleigh Show are you both going to attend, as it would be good to meet you both after that epic Europe Expedition!

  30. Great discussion about this on Reddit seemingly lead by ex-pats now living and working in China or who are frequent visitors and seem to know the country well. "Fairly soon..." is the key here. When lockdown was called I told myself that we would be confined to quarters for three months, so end of June. There were stories in the press (yes, I know...) of people being disappointed or upset that the initial three week period had been extended as if it was going to be three weeks and done. As I have said elsewhere, a change of thinking is required at the moment from individual expectation right through to government management. EVERYTHING needs to be re-thought for this new short and mid-term reality. The Tokyo 2020 organisers have already said that if there is no vaccine by early 2021 then the the games likely will not go ahead in 2021 either. This is not much of a surprise. Humans have no immunity to this. Even previously infected and recovered people have not yet been adequately assessed for future immunity. So lockdown gets lifted at some point but so what? We are all still going to be at risk. We will have social distancing, a ban on large gatherings and maybe gloves and facemasks when out in public for the rest of this year and likely into next year. Unless scientists can make extraordinary advances in the next few months AND have that progress backed up by the ability to actually manufacture the required RELIABLE tests for both active infections and antibody tests for immunity as well as safe vaccines on an unprecedented scale, we're going to have to restrict EVERYTHING we do for many many months. We're coming up to 5 weeks in. We have a VERY long way to go...

  31. I hàve to say, one unexpected benefit on Facebook has been making it so much easier to clean out a large number of "Facebook friends" whose false fact, crap and toxic conspiracy, tin foil hat, BS used to clog my feed. It's brought all the loony tendencies right out of the woodwork!
