  1. short story As we are at a loose end for 10 minits Up here in Barnsley we are always looking at making a quick buck or two so two good mates one called Breakable and Barnsley john decided to get their heads together Breakable also known as des on the wscc forum has a 2.0 l duratec westy and lives 4 miles from Barnsley john John also known as cant spell john as a 2.0 l honda westy There as been some keen banter over the past years with who has and got the best car between us when we were arguing one day we said lets be constructive and came up with a plan to make us rich the scheme is to breed our two cars and sell the little car pups to make some easy cash So first we would need some help from friends on the forum firstly from martin and sue has he is the mot vet and pup inspector down in Staffordshire area Also witnesses’ with Julie and glen as glen wanted the first pic of the pups as long it was a honda and also to recap glens mind on things how its done So the big day came up here in Barnsley We went to deses because he his posh and there’s oil all over drive from his car. so we all gathered round the two cars comforting the little honda The Duratek in blue was like a pit bull terrier with its chavy chain at front end and more electronic aids inside needing the national grid to power it Snarling and water dripping from mouth and radiator its stance with its wide tyres ready to pounce on my whimpering Honda Which is Built like a greyhound and slender compared to the chavy bully Duratek Gen was looking on in exactment as the duruatecs s exhaust grew to a magnificent shinny pipe The deed was done and the Duratek blew its head gasket and oil was all over after 20 seconds About the time of its owner s performance so debs says to me on our nights out My Honda was stoked as it had been abused from the blue beast Martin said let me know when the pup cars are born and I will give them a full health check 1 month later 7 little car pups were born Martyn was summoned to deses for the pup cars to be looked at He said bad news you guys there all Z tecs with problems and low HP My view is that it’s the duratec that’s faulty cams but the honda looks nice and healthy I would Get shut of them quick if I was you two idiots We were gutted as we knew Hondas would sell for loads of money duratecs a lot less And Z tecs very little So that night I decided to advertise them on piston car pups I used deses dyno readings saying 210 hp and we all know that is a lie I then copied them to each car to get shut and attract a buyer They were snapped up in two days . the guy that came said all take the lot I said were you from sir His reply was Ashby dela pooch and he took them all The moral of the story his don’t breed your car with inferior ford cars, and you wont end up like us having to get rid quick and for next to nowt No cars were hurt in this story and glen has a permanent smile Martyn overcharged us for the cars mot s and will sort him out soon as we can go out stay safe and we will all be out soon I am sure if we follow the guidelines thanks for reading BJ

  5. Sorry to hear it is being troubling for some... @Captain Colonial Hold up m8 an stay safe. In our case, I´ve been pretty much locked down since the 13th. I´m working from home... pretty efficiently, going out for a walk with the dog, shopping only twice a week being carefull as much as I can... Last two weeks have been quite good as I´m eating 100% home made food, and losing weight despite the "non activity", and I had to run some tests on some cooling systems at work cars, therfore I´ve been able to go out on the road at night, log some data in absolutely deserted roads, and enjoy watching the stars in a random countryroad lay by in absolute silence for first time in ages, catching up with guitar and bass, an shooting quite a lot in the garden. However, I miss being able to go to rehersal, and to the range, but is not the end of the world. I´ve also undusted my racing simulator, my garage is tidyer than ever and I´m doing some work to the westy too. Ana is spending must of her time at home too, wich is good, we get along well, and is nice having her company that much (will re-visit this topic next week with updates...) In a sort of a way, I kinda wish some of that stays the same when the virus is gone, as life is quieter and somehow nicer. Problem? well. After two weeks, I´ve ran out of "new things to discover" at home. I´m starting to become quite good again with the racing sim, and more than up to speed with the bass, and my night runs with the cars are over, so... what do i do next? Another VERY hard thing in my case, is to keep the beer consumption under check. Stay safe guys! good luck.

  8. At least you didn’t need any spares to fix it, there are some real rare-bits in those toasters!

  9. Yea, it was a tricky one.. The natural tendency of the cover broken is to open wider. So to help keep its shape I embedded steel bar with PU adhesive behind the vertical lip. Once dried and settled the top face was to be painted anyway... So no repairs required matching coloured resins. To repair the crack /chasm first all loose chips were removed. Then using a v shaped narrow burr in the dremel mill out all over the crack and any surrounding hairline cracks so the crack then became shallow walled rather than vertical walled. This gives a longer distance for bonding. Before any resin is mixed I cut multiple layers of fibreglass sheets cut to fit the hole shape but not bigger than the hole as when set and you've to sand it smooth you don't want strands sticking out! Wet the area with your resin using a sacrificial brush, lay one mat. Dab it in. Lay, dab, lay dab, top off with resin. In this instance I had to hold the resin in place with a "forming" strip of metal. Held on the edge as resin would run out of the hole. Once sets and back with 150 grit. Let it sit for few days to go properly hard. Fill and sand with filler, prime with plastic primer (I just used rattle cans) Dries quickly and sand between coats with 1200 grit and use water to avoid clogging the paper which will scratch if it does. and paint (choice of paint is up to you either 2k colour with hardener or as I used simply because it was an easy to repair in the future white) Clear coat you've 2 choices really, either 2k clear with isocynates (both the hardener and the actual clear has nasty poison in) or 2k clear without isocynates (just the hardener contains isocynates) so if working from home without the breathing gear... There is a downside with non isocynate clear I've found out AFTERWARDS Hmmmm it takes a lot longer to go hard, like a week or so and still going off.. Its working but much much slower than the full monty nasty stuff. Can you do the repair at home? Hell Yea... I'm no painter, I painted my dax rush with white cell years ago and was happy enough with it. More tricky colours like metal flakes, sparklescent and flips I'd leave to the experience of a good painter. Still paint... Have a go... It saves a fortune only the cost of the paint. Think I paid about £60 for celly, thinners £70 for the clear coat X2 (clear, hardener +thinners Consumables such as strainers, measuring cups, etc. Not much cost Spray gun, cheap will cost about £60 - £100 gravity fed. You'll need a decent compressor though to keep up with the demand as you spray. Mines I think 14cfm so it should replace into the tank 14cubic feet per minute. Set at about 3.5bar to paint... The rest is getting used to the gun and getting the right consistency of paint. How do you know though. You can buy little cups with a hole in it, by timing the run out of paint you've got the rate of flow, or guess it... Pretty runny is a reasonable guess. If its like dulux it'll not atomise through the gun. So using thinners you can make it useable 👍 ... 👍

  11. Hi guys, just thought I’d write a quick Introduction post. A lot of you may already know me as I’ve been out with my dad (Barry Wilson) for the last 11 years in his Westfield zetec. So, I’m a 22 year old mechanical engineering apprentice for a turbo manufacturer. I have wanted a Westfield for a while now and after looking at a few second hand Westfield’s for sale that needed a fair bit of work to make them how I wanted them. I decided to take the plunge and order a starter kit that is due around the middle of June. just thought I’d add a quick picture of myself for those of you who won’t know me. I have just been getting the garage ready for the Westfield’s arrival which has included wiring in some new LED light boxes, making a very important shelf to hold the brew and the Bluetooth speaker and an all round tidy up. I will be starting a build thread when the car arrives and I look forward to meeting a lot of you and all the knowledge and experience that will bring as well. thanks guys 👍 Andy

  21. No probs with respray although haven't got a decent compressor at present. Owned a Hire company some years ago so had lots of things to pretty up after nice customers had trashed them, biggest being 1 of my 7.5t trucks and a 17m cherry picker. Have extra bodywork in aluminium on car which I have done with rattle cans but paint quality iffy. Just fibre glass to master. Back to the storage, must admit I've got so much c**p up in every possible roof void that I wouldn't risk putting the bonnet up there especially as any slamming of doors tends to dislodge items. Will be interesting when me and the wife decide to down size, I will need a fleet of grab lorries😨

  26. Hi Andy, Great to see that you have finally become an individual WSCC member. Glen and I have very happy memories of rather too many hours sat outside The Strines with you and your dad at the end of our runs out around the Peak District. In fact I hold you two wholly resonsible for helping to get my area off the ground and I will be forever grateful to you for that. We will look forward to many more laughs in the future. Good luck with the build and love and hugs to you and your dad, Glen and Julie xxxx
