OK so with us all in doors and not getting out and about @RussH and myself have talked about a virtual night out. so you can have a beer and we will put together a pub quiz, in a way to bring us all together i will have to work out the finer points of how we all interact probably microsoft teams, but before i go to the planning stage would anyone be intrested.

Given that we're all under orders from Boris to exercise once a day, I chose to go out on my bike today. Once back home, I leave my bike against the house wall and walk down and up the road to cool down. I've caught this little orange fecker, tinkering with my bike, on my return from my cool down walk.

This post is specific to the gearbox mount issues so posted here. The advantage, if one can call it that, for self isolation I've been in the garage today and fitted the engine and gearbox. Westfield's technical department did point me in the direction of the separate steel plate that bolts up under the chassis so I knew what to expect. I made a template of the underside of the modified standard "Spridget" gearbox mount and decided to sit the gearbox in, mark the plate, remove it, drill to the template and re-fit. Bearing in mind I left a bigger clearance on the gearbox mount than the single reference in the manual to how the gearbox fits, it doesn't work. The gearbox mount on the left side hits the aluminium skin of the tunnel, there is insufficient clearance for the mount to sit between the lower tunnel tubes so wont sit on the plate, the starter motor cover on the bellhousing is wedged against the footwell vertical tube and when I sort all this, the oval casting on the left side of the gearbox will sit on the lower tunnel side tube so the mount still wont sit on the separate gearbox plate! Failing that it is perfect. Firstly, I intend modifying the Spridget mount again giving clearance and removing the vertical face on the left side which on a Sprite bolts through the side of the tunnel. I'll need to weld in a plate to replace the lost strength. Next I'll cut more out of the bottom of the mount where the manual does not cover this correctly. These modifications will allow me to move the tail of the gearbox to the left and hopefully the starter motor cover will clear the footwell. Finally, I'll cut the oval casting on the side of the gearbox so the mount will sit down properly. I recall somewhere reading what that oval casting was for but cannot remember, anyone here know? I guess Westfield will be closed so cannot ask them, it is slightly disappointing that being the Sprite gearbox was the original choice for these kits the fitment is not covered that well in the manual. The god news is this is all reference for when I restore my own car.

Hi all, I hope you're all staying fit & well. I'm at home and for the first time in 20 years unemployed, a freebee situation gifted from the Chinese, but I'm lucky, I have no mortgage and no debts, so bl**** lucky really. The sage is a nurse manager, in the past they used to be called 'sister' (in a non religious way) that makes our household pretty much front line, so we're going to see where the whole thing goes. Looking to the future, when the situation with the Virus has played out I'll be looking for something to do..... and it's not got to be boring, so once liberty is restored I'll start looking, I might even have a mooch at buying a single car transporter, I can drive up to 7.5 tons and can tow a trailer giving me a maximum all up weight of 8.25 tons, I've got a Digital Tacho card and have a valid CPC Driver card so no problem driving commercially, but cars are the only thing I'm going to be moving if I go down that route. However that set aside, when we get the nod to start getting back to normal I'm pottering about at home and have a trailer that the ASBO sits on. If anyone needs a loan of said trailer to move their Westie they are welcome to use it, if you don't have a tow bar and as long as you cover the diesel for my car I'd be happy to help. I don't think beer and wine can be translated to 'hire or reward' so should any be left in the boot it would easily find a new home. So.... any suggestions for make and model of transporter ? I'd be looking for a payload of 2.5 to 3.5 tons (I think). Stay safe ! Nem.........

That’s why I was asking you yesterday about my uprights... Luckily, i‘ve already upgraded, I found some decent uprights and brake setup in the garage, attached to a megablade.

They all got wind of the Virus and made a bolt for the door......

It was such a lovely place. We ate in one of those old houses and it was a brilliant atmosphere.

I managed to bend a metal plate and get it between the bar and the contoured fascia and then bolted it through the fascia. Z shape so from behind fascia, matching angle to the dash and then on top of the tunnel. Hope that explains it ok. 😀 Makes the finished new panel about 25mm behind the dash so not difficult to access the things on it whilst strapped in tightly.

I made a u shape piece to sit on top of the tunnel with a rivnut on each side that is bolted or riveted to the tunnel top, the switch housing was then bolted through the side into the rivnuts. I also made mine so the switch face was vertical. This was my first effort you can see the bolt on the side Hope that makes sense. Tony

Before I got banged up for 84 days yesterday, I was in a supermarket behind a man wearing a proper ventilation breather mask and rubber gloves (looked a b***). I told him that it can get in through the eyes too so wearing a mask and gloves was not entirely foolproof. I swear to you all that the next thing he did was to close his eyes and kept them closed, only opening them for split seconds to navigate. 🙄
