  2. Hi all, I hope you're all staying fit & well. I'm at home and for the first time in 20 years unemployed, a freebee situation gifted from the Chinese, but I'm lucky, I have no mortgage and no debts, so bl**** lucky really. The sage is a nurse manager, in the past they used to be called 'sister' (in a non religious way) that makes our household pretty much front line, so we're going to see where the whole thing goes. Looking to the future, when the situation with the Virus has played out I'll be looking for something to do..... and it's not got to be boring, so once liberty is restored I'll start looking, I might even have a mooch at buying a single car transporter, I can drive up to 7.5 tons and can tow a trailer giving me a maximum all up weight of 8.25 tons, I've got a Digital Tacho card and have a valid CPC Driver card so no problem driving commercially, but cars are the only thing I'm going to be moving if I go down that route. However that set aside, when we get the nod to start getting back to normal I'm pottering about at home and have a trailer that the ASBO sits on. If anyone needs a loan of said trailer to move their Westie they are welcome to use it, if you don't have a tow bar and as long as you cover the diesel for my car I'd be happy to help. I don't think beer and wine can be translated to 'hire or reward' so should any be left in the boot it would easily find a new home. So.... any suggestions for make and model of transporter ? I'd be looking for a payload of 2.5 to 3.5 tons (I think). Stay safe ! Nem.........

  3. Before I got banged up for 84 days yesterday, I was in a supermarket behind a man wearing a proper ventilation breather mask and rubber gloves (looked a b***). I told him that it can get in through the eyes too so wearing a mask and gloves was not entirely foolproof. I swear to you all that the next thing he did was to close his eyes and kept them closed, only opening them for split seconds to navigate. 🙄

  4. Unfortunately I don't have any good photos and the center console is currently apart (engine overhaul underway) but hopefully these will give you some ideas. The glovebox is fabricated from aluminum, covered with the same vinyl as the transmission tunnel and dash, then lined with a single piece of suede which doubles as the hinge, and a magnet serves as a latch for the lid. In place it's very hard to see, so reasonably secure, and provides enough space for paperwork, and various small essentials when touring (sunglasses, sunscreen, small flashlight, etc). -John

  5. The good old reserve - large brown paper bag over head and top of body, poke two holes out to see and cover with some see through material and totally Covid-19 safe. Added advantage is no one can see what you look like so can carry on hoarding like crazy🤠

  7. Absolutely echo Texs comments, CV19 risk aside, any RTA you are unfortunate enough to be involved puts extra strain on resources and due to the lack of equipment something usually survivable may have a much worse outcome.

  8. By all accounts any private collection/delivery has been curtailed for the undetermined period. That said the seats are going nowhere and as you have said that you want them I will keep them safe until all this is over. Keep safe. Jim

  9. The pre rebuild console; 3M multilayer carbon wrap, heater controls and 12 Volt point for chargers etc. As part of the rebuild, the analogue dials have gone, so I’ve moved the heater controls up to the dash panel, and the centre console now has all the ecu controls for traction etc. The 3M Carbon wrap has gone, and I’ve replaced it with genuine carbon, engraved with the control functions, on the centre console. (I got the same guy that did the build plates etc to do it.). Not fitted back to the car yet, but you get the idea...

  10. Well that's it for the next 3 months, my wife got a text today from the NHS telling her she is in the high risk category so we are house bound for at least 3 months. Anything other than essential journeys are banned and going out in the Westie is an open invite for the police to stop you. EXCEPT !!! Fill the passenger seat with food shopping and you've got an excuse! ONLY JOKING 🙃 SERIOUSLY we all must do our bit and follow Boris's advice.

  11. So hoping to beat any travel restrictions plus the fact I was alone, I had arranged to collect the new project so food and drinks with me I collected my new project and an engine/ box. Alas on the way home a puncture on the trailer wrecked the wheel and hub , so on the side of the road I called Autoaid ( it’s me who’s covered so doesn’t matter if it’s the Audi or the westy) in 55 minutes they had the trailer on the truck and delivered to the house in remote Scotland an hour after I was home. So a big thanks to all involved at Autoaid. And I can’t fault their service BUT now I’ve a new project and can’t get to the garage, time to order some carbon bits 😃 Stay safe everyone

  12. Ok a couple of teasers, when I got home and some black bodywork..... obviously once I can get into the garage there will be some tunnel mouth mods to take the Mazda box, then replace some of the aluminium with carbon ordered some nice deep dish 13” rims too, they didn’t do them in gold so once they’re here and I can get out they’ll be off to get sorted lol that’s about it for now, but there are a few things in my head (and that’s a dangerous place) but they’ll wait until I get started proper

  20. The problem is the government are leaving loopholes that businesses are exploiting. That along with the sheer stupidity of the public. Its pathetic The wife works for a big orange diy store that has been deemed essential. Really? There have been massive queues all week. No one adhering to distancing, The staff are petrified. Management don't care as the tills are ringing. They should be only selling 'essential' items by click and collect items paid for in advance. But no apparently stores are to reopen tomorrow. Its a disgrace. A 'lady' was causing a massive scene at the checkouts yesterday as she was disgusted that they had changed their opening times and were closing at 5pm. These people need to take a close look at what's happening in Italy as its coming.

  21. Im not to sure and realise all that ,but in today’s climate with people needing something to look forward to and mis information everywhere let’s stick to the facts for now .Its a plan of measures with a 3 week review . The term lock down imo is totally inappropriate there’s no lock down for me ,I’m a construction worker so it’s a bit farcical, I can still travel to and from work (in my westfield if I want) ,an hr travel either way , still go to a shop once a day ,walk my dog and exercise outdoors . I’m being advised to stay 2m away from others when doing all this . So construction is deemed Essential work ? I’m not so sure . Back to the brighter side of life China is now reporting that it will be lifting some restrictions in Wuhan soon so keep positive folks .

  22. Yep, got the message last night, I’m in the enforced No Blat Club too for AT LEAST 12 weeks. I greatly appreciate everyone’s efforts in helping to slow and hopefully stop the spread of this dreadful disease and protecting the NHS and their workers. Let’s all hope that we can celebrate a glorious summer of blatting together in July.

  30. im really annoyed that my actual place of work(not my sideline) is still operating as normal but the boss is self isolating for at least two weeks in his posh house. really annoying as that there are only 5 of us there and 3 of them are over 60 and lets say a little more vulnerable than most. we make parts for the turbine industy so arent classed as key workers but still continue to carry on as normal. they provided us with face masks and gloves and basically told us to get on with it. luckily im in the situation where i dont need to be there for at least a month. i had a days holiday booked to today so i rang in and told them im not coming back for at least two weeks. as i sit looking out of my bedroom window i can still see people walking along the main road holding hands and a fair few cars going around. so people clearly still arent listening. need a full lockdown and only supermarkets and nhs open in my opinion

  33. Be very careful home printing "protective" masks, the typical use home printer materials and the process itself are not really suitable. The layering process creates vastly more areas to trap nasty stuff, and the common low temperature materials cannot be sterilised in any meaningful way. For secondary devices like holders for the clear plastic face shields, it's a different situation, but for direct masks, you could, in the worst case do more harm than good....

  37. You maybe able to but conscience decisions will be coming by those as more and more people start glaring at others deemed non essential... Can't see construction work being essential unless something was going to ruin tbf... I work in the car industry which is still 'making' things and I'm sure we'd still be there if they could - A. Get parts from abroad and B. Shop cars out... Some are still there until today while the rest were sent home... Businesses tbh don't care that much about employees its becoming apparent who does and who doesn't.. They were talking about making ventilators... So we'd have to re-open.. Eh? Employee safety as priority?

  38. As one of the co owners of a business, UNLESS things change, we fall between the gaps and as our field does include some services that are still considered essential, if we shut now, we have no help or support. So it's savings to live, and once that's gone, the street. It's as harsh as that. Current situations are also revealing the snakes out there, we have a client refusing to properly speak and holding back a significant five figure sum. A lot of what we do can't be done remotely, because we're often the ones that have to set those links up. Small businesses like us are desperate for the government to consider our cases, but ignorant screams about company owners and fat cats really don't help the case. We've paid staff from reserves and taken nothing as the owners. (And of course talk of relaxing corporation tax etc came just after most of us had paid it!)
