  1. If you like, see if they will dispatch your hubs. I can send you this spare stub axle, get your car on the road and sort it out later. Offer is there!

  2. Mart why on earth does the main dealer need stringing up for this? They have advised the guy that his brakes have 2k miles left........ OOOOO lawsuit!!! They must be rip off merchants! Surely that's a good thing what they have said? They could have been nunneys and said they were worn out to get the work but didnt. They have simply told the guy his brakes are nearly worn out and given him the choice and time to think about when/who he wants to do the work. You could view it from both sides of the coin. To me it sounds like the MOT tester wanted the work and the dealer was being dead straight. Was is a £30 or £40 MOT? Believe it or not a lot of garages who do "cheap" mot's often fail cars to get the work - as the recommended VOSA chargeable rate for an MOT is actually £54.85. If your mate was doing 1000miles a month and its a lease car, why didn't he just ask the dealer to do the brakes while it was there if he was that bothered? Or get them done before it went in for the MOT if he knew? Genuine Merc consumables arnt that expensive to be fair to the brand. After all it could be 3 months or even 6 months of driving for him so he may not have bothered to get them done yet and the MOT guy has basically done him over by failing the car because he wanted the 2 hours labour. Plus they did say 2k miles till the wear indicator, so that to me means there's just over 2k miles left in them, maybe 3!

  3. Back today from another Highlands roadtrip - this time shouted ourselves for good behaviour to five nights DB&B in five luxury spa hotels, unfortunately in a tiptop not the Westfield. Only did 3-4 hours each day, leisurely driving to the conditions between hotels, only stopping for pics and lunch, then taking in the hotel's spa facilities and lovely food (Diane had a couple of treatments too). The Highlands look dramatic any time of the year, but with a generous coating of snow the scenery was particularly special this trip. After giving 5PM, Trivago (et al) a good trashing, the trip wasn't too costly - no more than it would have cost us a 4/5* hoteled Feb week in Spain with dodgy weather and temp. One of the best holidays we've had in a while, and we had the roads pretty much to ourselves when we were on the B-roads - even Spean Bridge to Dalwinnie was near-deserted. 1. Knock Castle, Crieff 2. Isle of Eriska Hotel, near Oban 3. Atholl Palace Hotel, Pitlochry 4. Thainstone House Hotel, Inverurie (complimentary upgrade to the bridal suite 👍) 5. Fairmont, St. Andrews Spean Bridge to Pitlochry... Just south of Braemar... B-roads from Ballater to Mossat...

  6. Hi Everyone I've been doing Track days for the last 3 years in my faithful Megane R26 mainly Thruxton, CC and Abingdon as well as the Gurston Hillclimb school. The time has come for an upgrade so I've (hopefully) done my research and think a Westfield is the way to go, so taken the plunge and joined your forum. Also decided its time to trailer the car to TDs so maybe interested in a dedicated track car although I'll probably keep the Megane for a while. Anyway I'll check out the For Sale section and hopefully something suitable will turn up. Richard

  8. This is well timed. @Gary Taylor was kind enough to give me a silencer which fits the description you have asked for I am sure. This silencer was however not used for some work which was being done on my car and so is free to a good home as Gary gave to me. I don’t have it with me at the moment but will have it next week when I pick up my car. It is a stainless repackable with a heat guard and with a bit of tlc will look the biz. I will send some photos when I have it back to see if it will work for you. Only need to get it to you or you pay postage.

  9. Bloddy nightmare of windows 10... Tookme two years to sort the problem, removing indexing and cache and so... terrible!! My workstation is been nearly useless for two years. Finally found the issue, but cant remember what it was. I tried that much things. Weird as my laptop is running the exact same version of w10 and is spot on.

  10. Sounds wrong to me, no expert, but if the above is right, take a copy and measure the pad wear yourself! As said, a few mm or 2k might be a week wear, but it might also be 6months, depending on use. The MOT is a check of the condition at the time. Daniel

  14. from the manual, pads can be measured, disc wear subjective. 1.1.13. Brake linings and pads Some brake pads have metal wear indicators so that when the pads become excessively worn the metal indicator touches the disc making a squealing sound. Other pads may have a cut, which if worn away indicates that the pad must be replaced. DefectCategory (a) Brake lining or pad: (i) worn down to wear indicator (ii) worn below 1.5mm (b) Brake lining or pad contaminated with oil, grease etc. (c) Brake lining or pad missing or incorrectly mounted 1.1.14. Brake discs and drums A brake disc or drum must be significantly worn before you should reject it. Being worn below the manufacturer’s recommended limits is not a reason in itself. (a) Brake disc or drum: (i) significantly and obviously worn (ii) insecure, fractured or otherwise likely to fail (b) Contaminated with oil, grease etc.Major (c) MissingDangerous (d) Brake drum back plate insecureMajor

  15. Yep, that’s about three months use on my daily at the moment, as most recent work has been fairly close by. And a few years ago it would have been an easy six months at times. Plus I wouldn’t have them done at the main dealer anyway, so they know me well enough by now just to advise and let me get them sorted out.
