Hi Carl, Thanks for the reply below. I fully understand your position and wouldn’t expect you to fly over just for a viewing, hence my suggestion for us to use skpye/facetime with someone local to the vehicle to enable me to look around it that way? Could this work? I’m really worried I’m going to miss out on this vehicle and would like to put a deposit down, say £500 to show my genuine intentions. This would be on the basis if the vehicle is as described on delivery, I will pay the balance in full. Hence, please advise bank details and I’ll transfer the money today. I’ve not heard of Adyen before, and based on the reviews here, https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/adyen.com I’m not happy using it, are you? Looking forward to your reply. Thanks, Ian5 points

I have enjoyed all the silly comments from the likes of Alastair Campbell, who will refuse to accept a Brexit 50p coin. The alternative designs are also pretty good. “Peace, prosperity and friendship with all nations”, does sounds a little more professional compared to "Bo**ocks to Brexit." The best by far was from Julia Hartley-Brewer who offered any unhappy "Remoaner" this deal. "I entreat any despairing Remoaners to hand all of their unwanted Brexit 50 pence pieces over to me. In return, I will give them 20 pence back and tell them what they are allowed to spend it on. That way they can happily go on pretending that they are still living in the EU and Brexit has never happened." We're going to Parliament Square on Friday evening to enjoy the fun, hotel booked in case it all gets too emotional. (Flags and Big Ben Bong on my mobile ready)3 points

Good morning - The question of which is stronger, welds or fillets, is an old one. Some will say that a welded joint is stronger than a fillet (assuming both are done properly) and this is hard to argue....but....one needs to look at potential failure of the completed structure and not just the joints and this is where fillets come out on top. The reason is, as stated above, the heat affected zone will typically cause a welded structure to fail adjacent to the joint. One needs to remember that a welded joint requires that the base material be heated to its melting point.....which in the case of steel is typically about 3500°F. This lowers the strength of the base material in a big way. If one does either ultimate strength or fatigue testing of a welded assembly it will typically cause the tube to fail adjacent to the weld in the dreaded heat affected zone (HAZ). Brazing on the other hand does not require that the base material be brought to its melting point. Instead it only needs to be brought up to the melting point of the filler being used. In my case here that is about 1750°F. This typically does not have a negative affect on the strength of the tube so when testing an assembly one can expect it to out perform welded joints in both strength and fatigue resistance. There is an additional issue - the temperature gradient of a welded joint is very short. The weld itself got up to 3500° but just a short distance from the weld it will be much cooler. This results in a stress riser of sorts in the steep gradient area adjacent to the weld. The brazed joint on the other hand isn't as hot but since it took much longer to form the joint the heat runs further down the tube away from the joint. This makes for a long gradient and much less of a stress riser. So why aren't all joints brazed instead of welded? The simple answer is time. A welded joint takes very little time compared to a brazed joint and when it's done it's done. A brazed joint requires more cleaning and prep and then one needs to remove the flux from it when done. It takes easily 3-4 times longer and time is money. But I have time and I'm a better brazer than I am a welder so it's my joint of choice. Fun stuff. Dave3 points

O dear... not even me with my old machine would do that... The wheel has slipped in to the jaws, Probably he has used the wrong clamping method, specially if they were track tyres with stiff sidewall. An small wheel needs to be clamped from the outside with plastic protectors. Really poor work, and astonished that someone that does that for a living, dont know how to do it properly. This offer wont sort your problem, but to whoever is worried about their wheels, feel free to pop over to mines one afternoon, and with a set of beers and for the cost of the weights and new valves we'll do it with the ammount of care requiered. This is open to everyone in the club that has Crewe on hand...2 points

The term remoaner properly irritates me. I'll bet if the vote had gone the other way there would be far more serious moaning from the exit camps than we have witnessed from the remain camp.2 points

It's not that easy as there's not a contact us e-mail address at e-mail etc and the add's been deleted again and will no doubt surface with another fake account. I'll continue fishing to see if I can get some traceable info like phone number, address, bank account etc.2 points

co-incidentally, I've now had a further reply! Hello, The vehicle is located in Dingwall, Highlands Scotland. Unfortunately, I have relocated to Berlin and Dingwall is too far away to arrange a viewing for each offer I get. I suggest going through eBay for your peace of mind. As a payment method, we can use Adyen.com secure online service which gives you 7 days inspection period on all vehicles for high amount payments before Adyen pays the seller (similar to escrow service and more secure than PayPal). eBay is to replace PayPal with Adyen as its payment system a leading global payments processor, to become its primary payments, processing partner. Regarding delivery, someone will transport it safely to your location. The total price is £3800 including delivery fees and insurance. ETA on delivery 4 to 6 working days. I will set up a purchase agreement with Adyen and offer a full 7 days inspection period through their money back guarantee purchase protection program. This purchase protection guarantees that the vehicle is exactly as described; basically, once delivered, you'll have 7 days to inspect it and if you decide not to keep it you will get refunded instantly by Adyen and they will charge me with the return delivery costs. I will get paid only after you confirm that the vehicle is as described. Let me know if you want to go ahead as I still have quite a few more offers from potential buyers. If you do want to go ahead please email me your full name and address along with your daily contact number to get this purchase registered with eBay and Adyen's secure payment service. Many thanks, Carl How thoughtful! Adyen, don't get very good reviews! https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/adyen.com just in case you're still planning to 'steal this from under my nose' @marcusb2 points

My rule of thumb is Never ask opinions on aesthetic taste, it tends to be very personal. That said everyone should have a copy of this on their book shelf https://www.amazon.com/Go-Faster-Graphic-Design-Racing/dp/3899552792 For what it’s worth if you are going to recreate such a classic livery then I personally wouldn’t mess with the branding.2 points

Yes, if you have an older car, or have done modifications to the wiring loom on a newer car, cutting plugs off, stripping insulation etc, its very easy to let the smoke out! You know the feeling, you wire something new in, turn the key, and bam, the smoke leaks out of the wiring1 Well don't panic, just top the smoke back up again, and everything will work fine.2 points

Time to start ticking off "winter car work" boxes and one of the first is to build a taller and lighter roll bar for my Westfield. I had the standard three piece bar (a bit taller and with the two rearward struts with rose joints at the end.....is it called the "RAC" bar maybe?) and I wanted something taller to keep my race sanctioning body happy while at the same time taking some weight off. I built this using 1.500" x .120" DOM tube and it's fillet brazed together. It's 2 3/4" taller that the old bar and 9 lbs (4.1kg) lighter. Now it sits far enough above my helmet that no inspectors are going to give me a hard time. I'm 6'4" so it's hard to find a bar that's tall enough and that doesn't add weight. Tomorrow it goes off to the powder coater to get some color on it. Next it needs some rubber fuel hoses replaced....less fun that bending tube and brazing it together but no less important. Just throwing it out there... we do home insurance too 🤣 But the more you have with us the more discount we can apply on the additional policies so it's actually worth having all your eggs in one basket so to speak! Thanks for the comments Andy_R! Carlie1 point

Well yesterday I just insured my third car with A-Plan! The Westfield (3.5L V8) is going into storage for a while and A-Plan were able to provide a policy for this despite it being away from my residence. They gave me a competitive quote for the Cobra (also a 3.5L V8). And finally my brand new Porsche 718 Cayman 2.0L flat 4 with 300bhp (which I picked up tomorrow from the dealer ... and yes @Julie Hall - Peak District AO you're welcome a drive in it!) was given a very competitive quote which beat all those cheap dodgy policies on compare the insurance type comparison sites. Very impressed with the service so far and when the Range Rover comes up for renewal I'll also be contacting them ... although with four cars being insured I'd expect a very nice discount, some fine wine and a burger at Stoneleigh @A-Plan Insurance THATCHAM 🤣1 point

Do like both the Martini and Rothmans liveries, makes a nice alternative to the (apologies!) somewhat done to death Gulf scheme. Love the old classic JPS and Marlboro McLaren schemes too, not seen the Marlboro on a seven style car, a few attempts at the JPS though, with varing degrees of success.1 point

The 'with' might be more appropriate across the back, where the big Westfield sun stickers fit in the spre wheel dent? As a slight deviation, and having painted several liveried cars and bikes, I've always loved the Rothmans colours (did you see that Ultima at Stoneleigh?). It would be so easy to do with a Westfield - blue tub and fenders, white nose cone, bonnet, scuttle and locking boot, with the gold stripe on the blue and the red on the white, so that the white stripe between is the gelcoat. The Rothmans text would be along the side between the front and rear arches, but mine would say 'Roffmans' to add a bit of humour and disarm the purists.1 point
