  1. Apart from spinning my Wez on roundabouts I am a traveller, as opposed to a camper. I spent 3 months travelling Europe on my own trying to get my head straight in 2018. I'm off again soon, Holland and France for a shorter period this time, a month maybe. Also been folk singing since I was 12, play the bodhran badly, also a bit of ole time music hall and war songs, tried rock but left it too late! Photo, me on the pyrenees on the anniversary of Brian's death. Sensation seeker according to a shrink!

  2. crashing things... Me on skis, mountain bikes, motor bikes, microlights, jet-skis - you name it, and if it moves with a human on board (or it's a computer), I've crashed it.

  4. Keen photographer (not as keen as I used to be mind you).. Always got a project in the garage - last few was sympathetically restoring a railway lamp - also restored a vintage time recorder (clocking in machine) for my brother for his 50th in November just gone. Currently renovating a clown bike which i picked up off Ebay (beers were involved) and also a 50's/60's petrol pump which is taking my spare time at the moment. Plus the Porsche 718 Spyder (not touched for many years but hope to get done one day - retirement project maybe) TVR T350c which is still being used (much more than the Westfield)

  5. There's been lots over the years swimming/horse/dog agility/competitive racket sports/mountain biking/climbing/via ferratta/moutaineering/walking/skiing and probably more to come, Although I've had an interest in sports/kit cars for almost as long There is ONE hobbie/addiction that has always been a massive part of my life, from mid 70's, and will be there until the final curtain. Over the years the upgrade path and 'running' costs have probably been more than the rest put together (including Westfield ownership) . . . . . . . . . . . . LISTENING TO MUSIC

  6. First thing is @Archibald Jinglepants, Iโ€™m expecting some entertainment at Blyton this year.. if itโ€™s poor we can keep warm watching it burn :). Westfield interests have to compete with several other interests. Road cycling either alone or as a Sunday group. Sunday social rides are great. The commute mileage alone is almost mindfulness.. It silences work thoughts and stress while endorphins make me happy even in the rain. Practical solutions for problems/ tinkering.. my wife often sees it as bodging. But in life, cars, work Its the working out how things work and how to come up with better solutions which I enjoy. Work can a a frustrating playground.. Pleasure can be using a knackered 2wd and a good 4wd gearbox to make a strong rwd great box. Or fitting a Diesel engine in a VW camper or Diesel engine in a reliant Scimitar, or making a new bed. Or even teaching myself to Tig weld. If I make it to retirement I expect My goal is to have a large workshop with a lathe, mill, cnc plasma, all my welding stuff, lots of metal and loads of failed projects..

  8. Good price. It may be worth editing the title to say โ€˜Hi spec race brakesโ€™ to differentiate from the standard Hispec brakes? Good luck with the sale.

  10. Euro tunnel is really painless and straight forward we used it last summer on our euro trip to Switzerland travelled s/w through France to Troyes, staying off the motorway and on a and b roads, 50mph , speed cameras are well hidden and they appear to utilise police bikes in rural areas once off the beaten path you will need at least a basic bit of french petrol stations are plentiful but in rural areas are often pay at the pump and sometimes the card you used previously wonโ€™t work, so either take a couple of different cards or donโ€™t get down onto fumes through France we used Booking.com to book traditional accommodation an old mill house and a family gite and an apartment at a chateau the routes we used are on our Switzerland trip thread in the road trips section any other questions just ask havent done Spain in the westy yet just through work from Bilbao to Lagrono and the basque region

  11. Those are cool! up until last year I was a drummer in a gigging band, but Iโ€™m also a Freemason and it was my year in the big chair, so it all got a bit busy and the band had to take a back seat. Iโ€™ve also got my Camaro that I take to weekend shows during the season. My latest venture this Christmas has got me back into computers after a 20 year break Iโ€™ve gone back to the Windows dark side! Iโ€™ve just built a gaming machine with more lights than Blackpool! One of my more sensible mid life crisisโ€™ s work is a bit of an inconvenience ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

  12. Aside from tinkering with the Westfield and building campers, my wee hobby keeps me in pocket money - I build and sell electric 2,3 and 4-string cigar-box guitars, in hardwood rather than repurposing cigar boxes. 'Sawdust is man glitter'!

  13. This month's breakfast meeting is changing venue. The past few months at the Red Kite we've all been squashed onto one table with not enough stools to go around, also the coffees not free anymore, so we'll try another pub. The Swan and Cygnet is just along the road on the next roundabout towards Wakefield, it has a large car park, so parking not a problem. I've not been, so can't say what it's like. We'll meet at the usual time, 10AM at The Swan and Cygnet, Denby Dale Road, WF4 3BB and see what it's like.

  17. I started gliding, took a few lessons and liked it, then went on to light aircraft (Cessna types), but found it a bit dull doing circuits of Newcastle Airport when they always kept you in a hold pattern). So took up Microlights and really liked that for the first few years - until I crashed anyway ๐Ÿคฃ

  19. Ha! Different schools of thought on that. My feeling is that Iโ€™m more likely to catch a knuckle on a plane blade, or damage it with something, if itโ€™s on its side. Putting it on a wooden surface wonโ€™t do it any harm. Apologies for making you feel nauseous though!

  21. For me itโ€™s competitive target rifle shooting (think of it like long range hole punching), which I still manage to do to a decent standard (eg County and International). I also still consider myself a surfer. I grew up in Guernsey and was nuts about surfing as a teenager - Iโ€™d go out in all conditions all year round. I still love it but rarely get to do it nowadays. More recently Iโ€™ve been getting into woodworking. Iโ€™ve collected a few machines but want to do some proper hand tool work. Iโ€™m currently finishing off a workbench...

  22. What a lovely parker!! Spare her as long as you can... the brand is no longer there, and despite people didn't appreciate them due their flexibility and lack of personality... ( Why to have a guitar that will allow you in stage to play from Death metal to jazz and some interesting acoustic sounds when you can have an Ibanez SV, A les Paul and a Telecaster and carry them around for the crowd don't even realize you've changed the instrument) They will end being VERY sought after instruments. I wish I had been smart enough to buy one in the early 2000 when second hand ones were sub 800 quid. Fancy a swap for a Hand build Tom anderson (from the Pre factory era) that needs some love? ๐Ÿ˜›

  23. As the username would indicate my other main hobby is playing guitar. I have played in function bands for over 35 years and still enjoy it. I have done a couple of dep gigs on bass when someone was desperate. Below is a picture of my main gigging guitar in front of the Zero. Went to a car show in the moring then drove over to play an outdoor festival where all the backline was provided. I have also recently started to learn to fly a 3 axis microlight. Only 10 hours in, but enjoying it a lot.

  24. I have great respect for anyone who plays instruments, I did play violin when young but gave up when I was told I couldn't play the music I enjoyed. I also shot - target pistols, mainly when competing in Tetrathlon.... Shooting, Cross Country running, Equine cross country and swimming. Then I also did some show jumping and 1 day eventing.

  26. From all the Hobbies I had in the past, (and they have been A LOT, and all of them expensive) Aside of motorsports I only keep Playing instruments.. Drums & Guitar very poorly and Bass a bit more fluently... Precisely yesterday I was fooled on playing in an open mic session. (not my best picture... I look a bit silly)... And I also do some target shooting with a .38mm under lever (John wayne style) in a local rifle club... but I don't own any.

  32. Everything Gary said above plus. Lots of places are shut on a Monday. I would try to stay on country roads where possible and go through villages etc. France is a big place and I found some of the main routes nowhere near as interesting as getting off the beaten track. Dont forget to drive on the other side of the road.

  33. Two for me. Apart from finally driving the Westy (almost 800 winter miles since I got it back on the road mid-September), I am trying to learn how to play this..... And I still play 8 ball pool once a week in a league populated, it seems, by superleague, county and a couple of England players, most of them 30+ years younger than me..... Guess there's no substitute for experience and a misspent youth ๐Ÿ˜‚
