  2. In addition to @Julie Hall - Peak District AO's great write up as usual above, some of us set off slightly earlier! Playing 'musical cars' to get the Westie out, whilst the family is in bed. I'd arranged to meet @Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Secretary at Hulme End at 8:00. We used Whatsapp as usual to sychronise our arrival. One of us doesn't have a heater and hence would rather keep moving. As I could see Dave's progress, I'm able to adjust my speed to meet his ETA. Given we don't normally enjoy the roads to GBS. I'd picked a different route through the Peaks. The roads we're rather damp. I smiled as I refuel approx 5 miles from home as I could see that Dave looked to be doing similar in Leek. You can't get much more synchronised than that! The roads were quiet given it was early. As I made the finally right turn for the long straight to Hulme End, I spied Dave's solar canon headlights in my mirrors a good way back. Perfect timing as ever. We met briefly to get head sets set up and I swapped my googles for shades. We then drove through Darley Dale and Chesterfield arriving a McD near to GBS before Julie as you'll have seen above to be met by Robin and Andy R. Andy R's new tou looked and sounded great on the short run to GBS We were well fed and watered at GBS as always: Dave and I travelled home in convoy in reverse to the journey there. The skies were getting darker but I got home dry. Note, the journey home didn't need gloves either! I've just clicked over onto 17,000 miles. Not bad for a 4 year old aero screened, heater less car! I clearly don't need the battle of the Odo's to encourage me to use mine

  3. Popped down to Oulton Park yesterday with @Meatibald Archpants and Lionel for a bit of lappage. Yes, that thing in the middle was my track car for the day. Behold the MicLaren. Or Ladybird. I've still not decided for certain: Yes, that is a Nissan Micra. It's completely standard. And yes, it is the 1.0L, with an astonishing 59bhp, ish. I paid £250 for it and yes, I had only driven it a few miles on the road before I decided to venture to Oulton for a track day. It'll be fine, they said, it's Japanese. And it was! Sea sickness pills mandatory, because this is the 'S' model which 'benefits' from no anti roll bars whatsoever. A buttload of toe out up front and 70psi in the rear tyres took car of handling duties. Until, for some reason, the left rear lost all pressure mid-corner at Shell hairpin. Weird. Still, I managed to limp back and luckily had a spare! 108 miles completed on track, no mechanical issues then drove it home afterwards - brilliant!

  4. Had my first visit to Garage 39 at Donington for the Breakfast Meeting this morning. Despite the cold there was at least 300 cars in attendance, which I thought was pretty impressive. We were the only Westfield, but a couple of GBS Zeros, a Sylva Phoenix R1 and a stunning Cobra had made it (mixed in with loads of Impreza's, Evo's, MX5's, Skylines, Focus ST's and RS's, a beautiful Mk1 Escort with a zetec on ITB's, a Riley Elf, a Morris Minor, Escort and Sapphire Cosworth, Lotus Esprit, Exige, etc). A friendly bunch of petrolheads and the cafe is great for a bacon roll and a brew! These meets are definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

  5. Be in post tomorrow, hope they fit as I had to machine my own, but I used marine wiper arms just to be different. They look exactly the same as your example. If they're ok make a donation to your favorite charity 😊

  9. Haha, well the day was pretty cheap and it managed 21mpg on track 😄 So even with driving there and back it only got through about £35's worth of fuel! Druids, when dry, was just a dab (while still on throttle) to get the front to go in but flat, yep. I didn't get above 80mph all day 😂

  14. Thank you everyone for another enjoyable trip out ... even with all the abuse my car was getting I had a great time 😂 And sorry to @Julie Hall - Peak District AO for poisoning you with the Cobra's fumes 😉 @marcusb ... I saw you as you went past the Morrison's in Wakefield (about 14:15). I beeped my horn a few times but you didn't appear to notice 😞 🙂

  15. I know it’s early 😁 but put February 9th in your diaries 1pm at the Glover Arms, Perth for a lunch , get together and pre season planning session. If you have any ideas jot them down and bring them along. Things already on the table are Strathfillan wigwams, mystery navigation run , Bo’ness and knockhill to support the wscc speed series remember we need your input to help organise the things to do

  16. For years I've been with Adrian Flux for the insurance on my Megabusa, I've had fully comp, 7500 miles and an agreed value option. This year it would of cost £480! I'm 53 with a clean licence not living in a high risk area. They also are now undervaluing the car against the market value... I've seen adverts recently for 3k more than they were offering for cover... That's no good to me if it were written off or nicked... So had a shop round... A-Plan - same deal and with the value I'd asked for came in at £160... what the devil Mr. Flux....?! When I told fluxy boy they upped the value to what I asked for... No cheaper but come on... I had to pay to get out of the policy then pay the new premium but the still left me quids in... Worth a look if your thinking, apparently Aplan is run by a westy owner? So knows the cars well. Impressed

  18. @RobH72 Looks like it was a good gathering and that's a lot of cars for December. Good to see you met Michael with the Ferrari who runs the Burton Car Club, he's a really nice bloke and it's worth you joining his club (free) as he is very active all year round.

  23. Yes it will bolt straight up But you either have to either slant the engine or slant the gearbox slightly (10 degrees iirc). Both ways have been done.

  24. We met at McD's, Dave, Ian and us in the Westfield's and Andy and Robin in the Cobra. Andrew and Clare, Martyn and Sue, Marcus and Nakkib, Scott and Charlie arrived in these strange vehicular things with sort of like tin roofs. Bill and Sarah came in the Porsche. I was nearly gassed when the Cobra fired up, I was parked next to it with no doors on and sat at exhaust level, cough, cough. When we arrived at GBS Scott was first to get cake, it is 10am at this point btw. We parked up, plenty of space today. Glen and I headed for the German Sausage Man, red or white Bratwurst with currywurst sauce and fresh cobs. Andrew introduced me to Ian, who promptly presented me with a lovely WSCC key ring, thank you Ian. We were also joined by Barry, Steve, Des, Debs and Barnsley John too, as he had been allowed out of the nursing home for the afternoon 😀 Michael and Martin from the Burton Car Club came in the Furrari. @6carjon Dave kept up with the Cheshire tradition and wore his shorts, it's December and it was dark when he set off this morning, he is also at an outdoor bbq all day, mad. Me? I got me thermal leggings on under my jeans, and 5 layers on top. The sun shone and all 24 of us had a nice relaxed social gathering, eat drink and be merry. The hubby had gluhwein in the mug and a German bier, 2 hands only 1 mouth or something like that Still no Zero's came, only factory one's on show and the odd one or two. Gradually everyone started to disappear. Marcus and Nakkib ready to go Andrew and Clare, Martyn and Sue joined us for a catch up back at McD's (sat down, warm, aahhh) before wishing each other Merry Christmas and departing. It's been great to see everyone, the driving and the views have been absolutley rubbish, but it's the people that make it xxxxxx
