  1. Greetings from Poland ! (sunny ) Another great tackday in Westfield , even with success - Ist place in class (2 litre NA engines from 90 years production, FWD + RWD , sport prepared) . It is more than I was hoping for in this Year. Great car, so far very reliable (although needs some nuts and bolts tightening beetween trackdays ) . Great cart, but more I drive it , the more I can see it needs some really good suspensionn adjustment , personally I have not much experience in this area. Hope to find some guidelines in this subject ,here in WSCC Forum. 4. The General Election was called because the Conservatory Government was struggling to sort a problem nobody had asked them to create---Brexit. Brexit arose after PM David of Cameroon asked the voters if they wanted to Remain in EU or Leave, and the voters apparently got it wrong. After DC resigned a new PM, Mother Theresa, tried and failed to sort the Brexit. Then it was the turn of another new PM called Boorish who was so famous he was known solely by his first name (this is the case with all truly well known people; Elvis, Prince, Bjork etc.). The Parties had different plans to appeal to voters:- Conservatory--—Leader Boorish said his new Brexit plan was ‘half-baked'. Many observers agreed. It just needed slightly more cooking to be satisfying and nutritious for the whole nation. The hope was that an exhausted nation would vote Conservatory to end the brexit purgatory and forget 9 years of wage stagnation and funding NHS at half the historic average yearly increase. The Purgatory Party stood down to give Conservatory a clean run at their target seats. Labour---Leader Jeremiah Corblimey (he wears cor-blimey trousers and lives in a Council flat) said he’d negotiate an improved Brexit deal, then let the voters know it’s rubbish and recommend staying in EU. Hope was that extra NHS funding promise would swing the vote for Labour and voters wouldn’t focus on vast spending commitments and possible tax increases. UK had never had a Marxist Socialist PM who'd attended terrorists’ funerals before, but there was a first time for everything. LibUnDems---Leader (girlyswot) Jo Winsome said she’d Revoke Article 50 and stay in EU ignoring 17.4 million voters from 2016 because LibUnDems know what’s best. Hope was that all the Remain voters would switch to LibUnDems to sweep Jo to power. Scottish National Party---Leader, Nicola 1, wanted to stay in EU, and Leave UK, delivering an Independent Scottish Country accountable to no-one except the unelected bureaucrats of Brussels. Greens---Leader J R Hartley wanted to solve problems by going back to a simpler time called the 15th century. Brexit Party---Leader N Farago wanted Brexit delivered (unclear what that is and Deliverooo couldn't help). A General Election is usually about Defence, Tax, NHS, Police, Schools, funding Local Government etc but this one is defined by Brexit. A TV station planned a debate between the leaders of the two biggest parties, Conservatory and Labour, but Jo Winsome demanded to be included despite only gaining 12 MPs in 2017 (and Jo losing her own East Dumbartonshire seat in 2015--regained in 2017). Jo had cleverly calculated that if she could merely increase her MPs by a multiple of 28 then she would be Prime Minister. There was no flaw in the arithmetic; only in the voting logic based on all past history of elections. Jo was very polite and insisted the Party drop a slogan rhyming with rollocks after arguing that an anti-Democracy stance was offensive enough. The EU Budget Deficit Rules unambiguously stated NO COUNTRY SHALL EXCEED 3% GDP AS YEARLY DEFICIT (unless that Country is called France). This was a drawback for Labour, and Jeremiah, as their spending plans might exceed the limit (secretly JC wanted out of the EU to have free rein over Government spending). Current PM Boorish made a commitment to stop drinking alcohol until Brexit was sorted, which is expected to be very soon (Brexit already in the oven). This greatly reassured the electorate as it meant he’d only be boozing during the rest of his 5 year term as PM (if successful). History showed that all great British PMs in the past had been great imbibers. Voting day is 4 weeks tomorrow---here's hoping it all turns out for the best. =====================================================================================

  9. Hi All, I am proposing a Drive out and Breakfast on Saturday 30th November to meet at 9am at the Duke of York Pub in Barnet and drive somewhere for a Breakfast. If it is a sunny day, I propose an airport breakfast run to North Weald if not, we can find somewhere closer.

  10. I'd been having some issues with my Zetec Blacktop, bogging down, spitting back through the trumpets, too much popping and banging on over run etc. Despite my fiddling, I just couldn't get the carbs to run correctly. After much searching I spoke to Alan who owns Carbcare in Lichfield who has just been out and serviced my twin 45's. What a knowledgeable guy! He works on various classics and kit cars, what he doesn't know about Webers, SU's and Strombergs is worth writing down. He's a real pleasure to talk to and even owns a Robin Hood himself. An hour and a half of his fettling and a quick test drive and all is good! 😁 Apparently he's starting to run some seminars on the dark art of carbs... Only SU's so far, but I've tried to convince him to do one on Webers!

  11. Ten days later and still drying out……….I've never driven in such adverse weather in a Westy before, but all credit to the chassis design, build quality and geometry/suspension set up it handled the conditions extremely well. So much for just being a "summer car". My first time at this interesting show and great to meet some very enterprising club members. My thanks to Adge and Colin for organising the club's presence.

  12. Second vote for XC60. Had one for two years did 90k in that time and it broke down once when it ran out of fuel, faulty gauge. The best seats of any car I have ever had towed well and even with a lead foot returned 40 mpg. Build quality excellent and service parts sensible prices

  14. I had a 2008 Freelander SE TD4, at approx 80,000 miles. When it was around 8 years old, lots of niggling little faults started to crop up. The rear hatch started to open on it own, setting off the car alarm. The boot lid switch had to be replaced. The Alarm would go off for no apparent reason, usually around 3 O'clock in the morning. unresolved. One of the rear doors stopped locking and the window would not move. The doors ECU had to be replaced. The front and rear parking sensors would come on continuously after driving in heavy rain and parked up. The intercooler to inlet hose failed. The highest fuel economy i ever achieved, downhill with the wind behind was 34MPG The clutch started to slip on the motorway in 5th & 6th if left standing for more than a few days. Finally, the day before i was selling it to Webuyanycar the fan control unit started to squeal and screech, for a minute or two, after the engine was switched off. Luckily, there were roadworks next to the office, and the jackhammer concealed the noise after the forward and reverse test drive. I have since replaced with a 2017 volvo XC60 D5. No faults so far, and achieves 38Mpg pottering about, and 44 on a sedate motorway run.

  20. One thing I would say with paint, though I may be mistaken, and simply haven’t seen really good GRP paintwork up close, is that gut reaction from the jobs I have seen in person, is that once you start, if you want to maintain a high quality finish, you’re committing yourself to periodically getting it refreshed. It just hasn’t lasted as long as a painted metal car would, without chipping and marking sufficiently for corrective work to be needed to avoid looking tatty. However, I HAVENT seen the work of people like @Marto303 in person - his paint jobs on GRP look amazing - he’s where I’d be heading if I needed one painting.

  21. you can get some fantastic results with paint, in terms of match - though I’ve noticed some GRP colours “match” better than others; I wonder if it’s down to the differences in medium between grp/pigment and paints. Ive had a local paint supplier with one of those colour analyser scanners mix some great colour matched paints up over the years, though I’ve not tried them with a GRP part yet. On the other hand, as mentioned before, I needed to loan them quite a big part to match too, (I seem to recall something at least the equivalent of 6” square being asked for), but Westfield achieved wonders matching my electric blue up, last year.

  22. Hoping my new alternator bolts arrive before the weekend .

  23. That's because there isn't one, I'm afraid. There isn't a set RAL code or any other consistent identifier between the different colours used, beyond the name; which depending on the supplier used at the time, might be slightly different to a different suppliers work. Westfield do sell small pots of gel coat for small area repairs, black isn't too bad normally with just the standard tub. However, if you speak with parts, and have a reasonable size piece of bodywork you can send them as a sample, then they may well be able to get it colour matched for you - obviously this does take a bit longer. The results can be superb, though.

  24. Actually you are dead right one of the best weekends I have had was the engine out and back in at Blyton. Because it was the spirit of the series with everyone mucking in to get me back in the car for one run at the end of the day.

  25. Our Christmas meal is on Tuesday, December 3rd. The Red Fox at Thornton Hough, near Willaston, is our venue for this year. Have a look at the online menu (it's nice) and let AO Mark know if you are coming as booking is essential. Partners welcome, Westfields optional, having a great time - no doubt about that. Note that due to the Chrimbo party there is no December club night at the Tudor Rose. The Mince Pie run will again be between Boxing Day and New Year's eve and will of course be weather dependent, isn't that a surprise. Don't worry if your car is SORN or subject to Chrimbo upgradeitise, there is always someone with a spare seat. But not maybe with a heater so wrap up warm. We always find somewhere nice and snug for that festive mince pie or bacon butty. DT&P will be advised by text. If you aren't on Mark's text alert system, now is the time to do so, let him have your mob number. Next year will be great, lots of runs, meets, shows and meals. Our famous, if not infamous, Y Ddraig Goch will be a two day event in May. Now in its 12th year, it's probably the most popular and best supported event we do. And that's due in no small part to Jeff's fantastic route planning, how does he find those roads! There is also talk of a european trip, France, Italy, Switzerland, so don't miss that, it's in the planning stages at the moment. Lots to look forward to, so join in the fun.
