Maurici, if you will no longer compete in the speed series for other reasons, then these changes have no impact on you. I for one applaud the effort that the SSOT have put in to change the championship and try to make it a more fun and enticing championship. In my opinion, if I was to read this thread as a potential competitor I would see all the bickering and go elsewhere. We should be focussing on making people feel as welcome as possible within the rules we have, not highlighting any negatives and being disrespectful of the hard work that others have put in on our behalf. I am very much looking forward to spending another season competing with friends and seeing where these new rules lead, regardless of where they leave my positition in the championship.10 points

A more formal Club response is coming but I feel a personal need to reply to Charlotte; Charlotte, thank you, a breath of fresh air and what I'm hopeful everyone is thinking (but not saying en masse). It's so easy to complain, sadly less easy to praise and I wholeheartedly agree with you.6 points

I'd like to see him in a Le Mans LMP1. I'm betting the lap record for both quali and the race would come down by quite a bit...2 points

I have owned this car for nearly five years and I’ve gradually turned it into the car I’d always wanted...high power NA engine, lightweight space frame chassis and sequential box with close gearing! It’s great fun to drive, and with the current setup it’s surprisingly easy to lap extremely quickly on track. I am by no means the next Lewis Hamilton and I’ve managed a 1.33 round Croft on a track day with road legal tyres, so there is potential to go a lot quicker. Unfortunately, the time has come where I’ve decided to try and get onto the property ladder and my dad has decided he’d like to buy a toy of his own to occupy his garage space where my westy is currently stored(how selfish of him?!😅), so the car has to go! 2006 Westfield SEIW zetec road/track/race car 565kg Fully road legal 2.1 dry sumped 250bhp zetec, forged pistons and rods, 86mm bore silver top block. CNC blacktop head and custom cams. Quaife 26z 5 speed all alloy sequential gearbox with geartronics indicator. Regarded as a very robust unit in the world of rallying and substantially lighter than the 60g. It was Installed by PlaysKool along with a new raceline alloy bell housing which had additional machining to make it fit. Super light flywheel and 7.25inch clutch, a new clutch plate was fitted when the gearbox was installed and it’s only 2 track days since then. 7” gripper plated diff 4.44 ratio, geared perfectly, made a massive difference installing the 4.44, this was done by bara motorsports and has done 150 miles max Full cage Wide track with Westfield alloy uprights and hubs with new nylon bushings etc. all installed 150 miles ago Twin MC brakes with bias adjustment Bosch 044 fuel pump, facet lift pump and alloy swirl pot Fully flat floored from front to rear, with removable piece of carbon to change gearbox oil, quick release carbon nv diffuser at the rear Front and rear PlaysKool anti roll bars Lightweight lithium battery 9” cxr’s at the rear 7” at the front, Avon zzr tyres. Spares package included: Complete ST170 cylinder head inc. inlet manifold 2.04 1st gear ratio. It’s currently fitted with a 2.2 1st. Standard wish bones and front roll bar Spare 7.25 clutch plate Brand new standard black detachable arches Few other bits and bobs There are a couple of things that require some attention: There appears to be small oil leak from the diff, surprising as it cost a small fortune to have it rebuilt not long ago with all new seals, by supposedly the “best in the business” at dealing with the 7” diffs. The car currently requires 24v starting from cold with a slave battery. I believe this is down to a dodgy starter motor dragging excessive current from the battery, and therefore the voltage drops below 10v when starting and the ECU won’t let it start unless it sees more than 10v. As it’s been a track car I have just put up with the 24v starting but if someone wanted to put it on the road it’s probably advisable to get it sorted, unless you would be willing to carry a slave battery around with you. *edited to add 19/1/20 - brand new powerlite hi torque starter fitted* All in all I think this is a fantastic package for someone who can spend a bit of time tinkering with it and tidying up a bit. feel free to message/ring on 07949834634 price is £112501 point

2020 Silverstone classic starts here. 31st July - 2nd August. (assuming that the F1 doesn't change and we will know early December and it didn't last year) We are registered for the Silverstone Classic, 2020. As a member you can now access the fantastic Car Club Display Package (two adult admission tickets and an infield car display pass). Our club’s dedicated code is 2020CCD084. You will need to enter this code and your car details when prompted to do so at: https://www.silverstoneclassic.com/buycarclubtickets. (Westfields only please ) Super early bird packages are £99.00 + 1.95 booking fee and this is for three days for two people including infield parking for your Westfield. This works out at £16.50 per person per day.....Not too bad. Camping is £49.00 per adult, children are a bit cheaper. Not sure at this time what the early bird prices will be but I guess an extra 10% Important Dates:- Super Early Bird Car Club Display Packages will be available from Friday 25 October until midnight on 31 December. From 1 January the usual Early Bird period will be in place until 31 March after which the Standard price applies. Car Club Display Package sales will end on 31 May, allowing us to plan the infield and finalise all car club display locations in good time before the event. Car Club Display Area You will be advised of your designated display area at the end of June when Silverstone has had the opportunity to position the clubs according to the numbers of cars booked, power requirements and structures being erected. Please note that clubs are not guaranteed to be in the same position as previous years as Silverstone like to offer the spectators variation each year. Next year is the 30th anniversary of the classic so should be a good one.1 point

SUNDAY. Not the easiest weather report to interpret, but I think that they are predicting that Sunday is the drier day, which is the opposite to what they said yesterday. So, Sunday it is. See you on SUNDAY 10.30 SAINSBURYS MATLOCK.1 point

That said, being cheeky, if anyone does find the correct paint match for crimson, I'd love to know - it is out there, as my Sigma powered car has had the boot box painted and it's a perfect match. I need to repair an old war wound on a front cycle wing, and re-painting it would make life much easier! (I'll probably end up taking the wing to one of my local trade paint suppliers otherwise; they have the equipment to analyze and mix paint to match).1 point

Can't help with one spare, i'm afraid. But if it helps, it's know as the"Jap" roll bar, also worth being aware that there are now two versions. A few years ago, when Westfield started selling the taller windscreen, as featured on Sport Turbo and Sport 250 models, they made a higher version of the roll bar to suit.1 point

I have been watching this 'discussion' develop as a newcomer this season. Whilst I have several thoughts on the comments above I am refraining from challenging. May I make a suggestion? We should first of all accept the SSOT no doubt have thrashed through various scenarios and arrived at this proposal in an attempt to arrest the decline of the Series, not for the betterment of themselves. At the 'Blyton weekend' in 2020 we have a meeting to discuss/ put forward proposals for 2021 for the SSOT to examine or work up. At that point we would also have the benefit of 1/2 a season to see how the 2020 proposals are working through. Between Blyton and publication of 2021 regs the SSOT could possibly provide an update by way of say Facebook live or some other web based discussion facility if required There is no simple answer when we have such a variety of cars1 point

My body and brain (partly) are functioning again after the shock of the drastic wholesale changes being proposed for the SS in 2020! I would agree that the SS does need a serious make-over to attract new entrants to competition and entice back those who are no longer taking part or are finding their enjoyment in other sprint and hill climb championships. The proposals for 2020 will not address these obvious objectives correctly and they also run a high risk of turning more competitors away from the SS championship which has provided many Westfield owners (me included) much enjoyment over the years! What we must avoid here is the kids christmas present syndrome "the box looks shiney and bright on the outside but the contents are not fit for purpose before the end of christmas day" So why are the SSOT so keen to push on with these proposals and and get them into MS UK asap ? 1) BEWARE once approved I am told every year it is impossible to get them changed when errors and omissions come to light after approval! 2) The Blue Book including the tyre list for 2020 has not been made available for general circulation so without this necessary information I guess a large number of the potential competitors are not that well informed on what MS UK are going to issue! Like the SSOT I to have a draft copy of the regs soon to be published that is dated 19th Sept! 3) Contrary to the SSOT explaination the MS UK 2020 Regs are very little different for sprinting and hill climbing than those for 2019 except for the renumbering to allow General Cars to added att he lower end of the numbering system So lets be clear here the changes to the SS Regs have NOT been caused by changes to MS UK regs for 2020! 4) The much discussed Target Time System with all of it's problems either perceived or actual did facilitate a consistent performance measurement system across all SS classes and MORE IMPORTANTLY did allow a single driver in any given class to actually have do a bit of work to achieve a reasonable score at any given event that he or she was the only competitor in the class. 5) You may or not be aware that Paul Morcom headed up a working party a couple years ago to review most available scoring systems and based on that comprehensive piece of work the SSOT at the time concluded that Target Times were the best option for the SS and all of it's different considerations. 6) Now it is proposed that we have a first past the post scoring system for 2020 which in it's self is no bad thing but as far as the speed series is concerned it comes with strings attached! 7) The major one being it should NOT ALLOW 1 person in one class to go around 10 events and score maximum points with little or no effort. IT needs a QUORUM to be specified for the number of competitors competing on the day in EACH Class before the points count towards the SS Championship! 8) This leads on to the technical class stucture of the SS Regs. By the nature of the beast a Westfield Sports car is a very variable item, some factory built cars, some factory supplied kits for self assembly and many "home brew" designs that has been the brain child of the owner builder many of which compete in the SS! 9) Over the years the SS Regs have been honed to take account of this wide variety of technical differences to provide a "levelled" playing field for the many differently speced cars to compete side by side in a reasonably fair manner! 10) The MS UK Regs CANNOT and DO NOT drill down to such a level of technical complexities but do try to provide regulatory framework that addresses the main supply of vehicles coming from manufacturures with defined specifications and known production quantities and specify at a high level what MUST be done and what can and cannot be done to allow participation in UK Motorsport. 11) They rely totally on the Club Championships to define in their Regulations what is fair, reasonable and equitable conditions under which competitors should compete in their chhampioship. 12) In the proposed 2020 SS regulations the SSOT have dispensed with fairness and level playing field conditions that we enjoyed from our previous regs in favour of the inadequate MS UK Regs because of the need to have a well populated class structure need to support the first past the post scoring system. 13) The most over riding decision of un-fairness in the proposed 2020 SS Regs is the amalgamation of the Bike Engined Cars in with Car Engined Cars in both the Road Going and Modified Clases. 14) Only a limited number of the Car Engined Westfields will be able compete on similar technical specs to Bike Engined Cars in Road Going classes because of the Sequential Gearbox Regulations MS UK Regs ref 12.8.1 (b) where only a handful of factory built cars were supplied and specified using Elite Sequential gearboxes which proved to be to weak to cope the outputs of the higher powered engines. 15) In the modified classes it is fair to say the to have any chance against the bike engined cars (apart from ACW coming back) car engine Westfields will need to be upgraded to at least sequential gearboxes, slick tyres and as much power they can squeeze out of their hand picked and much loved car engine! 16) You must appreciate like many of these things the devil is in the detail and the details must be understood! 17) It really depends on what you want to in the to do and get out of the speed series? either just make up the numbers so the first past the post scoring system works fairly or do what to try and win something? 18) For most of the Car Engined Owners the new SS Regs as currently proposed means spending MONEY and probably quite a LOT of it, ie changing your car, buying new gearboxes, slick tyres and associated wheels and probably a lot of other stuff! With these Regs as proposed for many of us the ARMS RACE is back big time! 19) Do not let the SSOT "BORIS" you! Put in the time to understand the details, how they will affect you and how much they will COST you! 20) With regard to lesser rule changes if we are reducing the overall number of events and the Novice Champ is reduced to 6 events why don't we reduce the Expert Champ to 8 Events. 21) Why can't we retain the Sprint Challenge along side the new Hill Climb award ? Proposed Workable Solution We MUST NOT let the proposed new SSOT Regs go to MS UK for approval in there current form but I do not want to be a total party pooper in this matter! It is now time to put Bike Engined Westfields into seperate classes in both Road Going and Modified on there own particularly if the the first past the post scoring system is to be adopted! I will let some else look into quetion of what car engined cars can get away with by running under the MS UK Technical regs with no added rules from the SSOT ie dog box h pattern gearboes allowed in Road Going and so on! Long Live the Speed Series we must improve it's appeal to all Westfield owners and not just the quickest drivers and those with the higest levels of technical wizardry! Sunday Brain Dump overy! Enlightened reading I hope? Glutey0 points
