  2. Decided my engine bay needed a bit of a tidy up. Had a local company dip the cam cover. https://www.hydragraphics.co.uk/ Really pleased with the result. May not be to everyone's taste but I like it. I'll add some more photos at the weekend after I've fitted it back on.

  3. Hello all, I've finally realised a dream I had since quite a few years, owning a 7 type car! Unfortunately to register it in Italy it must be 20 years old at least, so I didn't have many options on the table, and a Westfield was surely the most attractive 😁 I ended buying a red SEiW with Ford RS Turbo engine. It looks pretty good, not the best but the above limitation and limited budget didn't allow me to buy something nicer 😊 However that's not entirely bad, I love modifying and generally poking around with cars, my dad and brothers are mechanics and own a garage so not really an issue upgrading it 😁 The car is currently in a lorry on its way to Italy, I'll post a few pics when I have it with me 😁 ps: do I need to be a paid member to buy something from the "Parts for Sale" room? Thanks 😎 edit: some photos of the old owner:

  6. You've not made a mistake at all! Mine when I bought it as an unregistered car... During the strip down... And how it looks now after 3 years... I've got a full photo album of the complete strip down for when the IVA test comes around. Not saying it's been easy but it has been fun! This forum is an amazing source of information and ideas for when you hit a brick wall. Enjoy your project and put lots of pics on here!

  7. I haven't read all this thread, but has anyone mentioned the destruction of young people's futures in order that politicians don't lose face and/or the federal Europe roller coaster isn't derailed? The Euro is responsible for the exceptionally high youth unemployment rates in Greece, Spain, Italy and elsewhere. It's a failed currency experiment, and the breathtaking arrogance of continuing with it is a good reason alone to distance ourselves.....

  10. No and that's the point. There were no clearly detailed options. It was "stay or go" Honestly if the ballot paper said Stay Leave. With no deal. Hard borders. No customs union. No trade deal. Do you really believe the result of the ballot would have been the same? I find it incredibly hard to believe it would.

  14. No deal (i.e. present us with a clearly unacceptable deal) is just a construct being used by the EU as their best option to keep us in. There never could or would be a permanent or long term no deal - they send us approaching €1billion a day worth of stuff, they send us €1billion a week in cars alone, all of which we are entitled under no deal to put tariffs and quotas on. They have set their stall out to keep us in because they fear the consequences of us being out. The insistence on agreeing how to leave before future trade is discussed is also a very clever barrier to leaving. It means that we are trying to establish 'How to get there' before we have decided where 'There' is. The Irish border question is typical of this, how will we know what can and can't work at the border if we simply don't know what our trading relationship will be until later? What I am certain of is that if our parliamentarians had sat together and worked something out, a little compromise here and there, then turned to face the EU united in the interests of our nation, this would have been done and dusted. I will never forgive them for that, for putting their own interests first through the most difficult time in our post war history. Jim

  16. Definitely no. If the choice had been: A: Stay B: No deal Leave with no agreements C Get the best possible deal to Leave the EU with a trade and customs deal I’ll bet it would have been firmly a vote for C. I’m sure a lot of people voted Remain only because of their justifiable economic concerns over a hard Brexit.

  20. Hi All. I'm on the hunt of a road registered westfield (I'm after a pure road unit, not a roadlegal racecar). The right candidate will run: A 1.8 silvertop Zetec. preferably in ITBs. Again... Must be 1.8 Zetec. Carburated cars are not my cup of tea... All the other points about the car should be perfect for me to go for it. Not particularly bothered about the End power of it Will be live axle, however, I wont discard an independent if the other bits are correct. will have weather gear. (at least some). Ideally after windscreen, doors and half hood. (as you know that is easily sorted in the parallel market, but... if is present, even better). Will have some sort of inner trimming. Carpets, half comfy seats, even a heater would be very welcome. I would rather a runner, but I'm happy to re-comission a car as long as is not in terrible shape. MUST be registered tho... the Budget bracket is... wide for the right car, but I'm not in a rush or in a need to buy. so, Tempt me with what you may have, but don't expect to hit me with prices over the market value. Thanks! Maurici.

  26. This metaphor has run its course, has it not? As Monty Python would say: "Too silly!" Leavers, with their perfectly valid reasoning, and remainers with their equally cogent arguments, cannot agree because the respective points of view are based mainly on conjecture as the future is unfathomable. As I may have said before on here, I actually care far less about IN or OUT than I do about keeping Corbyn et al out of power. Any damage caused by Brexit or EU is piddling compared with the havoc they would wreak.

  31. Remain and be gradually subsumed into a European Superstate with its own army, overarching government, a compulsory single currency, free movement of people (not just workforces), UK's inability to strike trade agreements with outside countries, and the inevitable (in some economists' eyes) collapse of at least two countries' finances, and ultimately of the Euro with all the liabilities foisted upon the wealthier states such as UK. The only saving grace as I see it is that the plans of the Corbyn/McDonnell Supreme Soviet would be thwarted. No when I leave a room I do not leave my behind, I leave! Could all that have been put on the ballot paper or would you rely on people's common sense to realise it all?

  35. I've got a floor standing Sealey one I could do with shifting, barely used but needs a clean out (ironically!) as it was sat with degreaser for a couple of years. Bit of diesel or paraffin and it should be good to go. Pm me your email I'll send a photo. Will be heading to Anglesey on Saturday and way back Sunday. Best laid plans etc... 😭

  36. Best of luck with your project, remember to enjoy it In case you haven't found it link to current IVA manual: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/738819/individual-vehicle-approval-inspection-manual-passenger-vehicles.pdf Keep an eye open for updates would be my suggestion. It looks daunting at first with 300 plus pages, but it's laid out logically, and contains a lot of references pages etc. IMHO one of the best investments you can make is by joining this club, good way to tap into a wealth of friendly experience and advice.

  38. Hi, I built mine and put through IVA last year, i built mine from scratch and used 2 donor cars and was able to get an age related number plate. However yours with no trail will be a lot harder to put through but there are some information that overlaps. 1. They prefer the applicant to have built and recorded the work - I would suggest that you strip a fair amount of the car down and reassemble taking photos - a good idea especially as the build quality is unknown. This will be enough to satisfy the self build. 2. Track down all the major components and trace using serial nos. - this will tell whether engine is pre-cat or not. 3. Make sure you have a chassis number - if not with car you can apply for one. 4. Follow the many guides to prepare for the IVA and measure, check and recheck every detail. 5. It may be worth putting it through even knowing it will just fail so that the tester will identify the faults and list for you to do - retest is fairly affordable £90 for mine but shouldn't be to far off as they have right to fully fail and demand the full test fee if they consider it very unfit for road. 6. You will only get a Q reg. as it's using old parts without donor proof. 7. There is lots more to do but these are just a taster. You look like the car you have selected will need a lot of man hours to get through - to start the seats will not comply nor will lack of indicators, front mudguards etc. Good luck but even with mine I needed to retire before getting it finished.

  40. Waay too long between updates, but in my defence, it's been a busy few days and any time I've had free, I basically haven't had Internet. Just crossed into Romania again this morning so back to free EU roaming! I'm not sure what I expected of Ukraine, but the experience was certainly different. We spent the weekend in Kyiv (Kiev) other than Saturday when we took the day trip to Chernobyl. Chernobyl is incredible, but for anyone thinking of visiting Ukraine, allow yourself more time than just for that one thing. Kyiv, and the whole country from what I saw, is incredible. The people mostly haven't a word of English, but they're fantastically friendly and perfectly willing to struggle through a broken conversation. The city was beautiful too. Lots of remnants of the soviet era, but there are some incredible bits of architecture around. We did a walking tour of the city too which was really educational. Here are a few random highlights. The monument and arch below were built as a symbol of friendship between Ukraine and Russia, but since the start of the war in Crimea, someone has stuck a "crack" on it to symbolise damage to that friendship. Gotta love the cars here too! Every Saturday night they close the main street too for a street party and light show. We only took a wander through it as we were pretty wrecked after the day but it seemed good fun! I'll try to do another post later with Chernobyl photos etc, but I didn't want to bundle them together, as Kyiv really is well worth a visit on its own!

  45. Somehow made it to Kiev! Border crossing from Poland ended up taking the best part of 7 hours just to get to the polish checkpoint, then another couple of hours to get to the Ukrainian one. The Ukrainian police thought my car was hilarious - not sure how many times the word "crazy" was said! They let us through eventually though. Chris had to buy some insurance for his car on the far side. With none of the Ukrainians speaking English, and us having no Ukrainian, we have no idea what he actually ended up with but it cost the equivalent of about €11! By the time we got all that sorted, it was nearly midnight, so we found a spot to camp on the far side of the border, cooked some dinner and went to bed. Google said it would be 6 hours to Kiev from where we camped so we got up at 6:30, packed the tents and hit the road as soon as it was light. For all the worries that we had for the road quality, it's really not as bad as people made out. Probably on par with Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, with the exception being any bridges. They really seem to be the weak point in the road surfaces. One of them that we crossed, (on the main road to Kiev), you could actually see the river through the holes in the tarmac which was quite concerning! Also, when waze warns you of a pothole on the road ahead in Ukraine, be prepared to take a detour around a crater. It was pouring down with rain for most of the drive. The car was fine for it other than one or two points where there was standing water in the ruts in the road which made it a little twitchy! Ukrainians have been really polite and friendly any time we've talked to them so far (or tried to!). Everyone has been asking permission before taking any pictures of the car. I really want to get a photo of the westie next to one of the old ladas here but haven't seen an owner around when I've been parked up to ask! Once we got to the city, the driving seemed to change. Its a sort of chaos that everyone here seems to understand. The lane boundaries (and even driving versus pedestrian boundaries) are really not very clear which doesn't make for a fun drive. When we eventually made it to the hotel, reception said we could use the underground car park. After scraping the gearbox hoop on the way in, the security guard told us otherwise. More scraping on the way out, and had to use the outdoor car park around the back of the hotel instead! All OK though - while they all want the photo, nobody here would want a Westfield, it's too low and wet for their tastes! Besides, between the pretty well hidden ignition, the immobiliser, and the lack of a steering wheel, it's pretty well protected! With the weather being pretty horrible, and the amount of distance we had to cover, I didn't get a chance to take any decent photos yesterday, but when we leave on Sunday, I'll try to get something as a little evidence of how far east we've driven! I wonder what's the longest distance from home anyone's ever driven their Westfield? Might have achieved a random record with it!
