Hi all! After about 40 years hankering after a sevenesque car, I finally took the plunge at the weekend and I'm the very proud owner of a gorgeous Westfield! I've always been a petrol head and have recently put together a track day R53 BMW Mini (that my eldest is now inheriting). Being 6ft 4 I wanted a wide bodied car and ideally a 2.0 zetec or redtop, and I also like the more modern cycle wing look. After much searching, I finally found one I fell in love with, a '96 SEIW in yellow and carbon fibre with a 2.0 blacktop, twin 45 Weber's, TD 1.2's, Gaz coilovers etc and loads of history. John, the previous owner (a really nice guy!) was a long term member of the WSCC and recommended I join. I'm sure people here will know the car. She's not perfect or a show car, but she's all mine! 😁 I'm looking forward to meeting some other owners (weather permitting!) and picking your brains when I inevitably start fettling, fixing and upgrading! Great to be part of the Club! Rob5 points

Looks cool. Hopefully meet you sometime on the Peak District trips. Keep a look out in the ‘local area meets’ on this site - no doubt it wouldn’t be long before a trip out is organised!3 points

On hillclimbs it is practice to pass the beam and then let the marshalls roll you back down the hill till the beam is broken Stopping short of the beam makes sense when the start is on the flat (such as Blyton). Marshalls are not too keen (understatement!) on pushing a car that has stopped before the beam up the hill particularly in heat at Loton 🥵🥵1 point

Meet at Curborough Sprint Course, Lichfield, WS13 8EJ ,10.30/11am for a wander into the paddocks to see some of the Speed Series folks and watch them on track. Afterwards we can pop up into the Peak District, perhaps to Wetton for some lunch if anyone fancies it. Hope to see some of you there xxx1 point

Perhaps this should be relayed to the man doing the briefing It all makes perfect sense when explained, but I guess unless you do the start line job you'll never know!1 point

How very strange, exactly 1 year ago today I led a run back from Curborough along the route that @NigelO took us on Saturday. These are the pictures of the Blithfield reservoir that we drove over. We haven't been on that road since, what a coincidence. Good old facebook with it's '1 year ago' posts.1 point

While you are browsing, make sure to use private mode. The big rental firms are b*******s for upping the price each time you visit as soon as their website spots the cookies. I always go with the full insurance package myself. Had a shunt one visit . At first it looked like it was just a minor ding on the boot lid, then I realised it was about 6” shorter than it had been when I collected it. Just drove it back to the rental place, dropped off the keys and asked for a new one. Quick form signing exercise and good to go, no penalties, no hassles.1 point

Thats a tricky one to answer, as with kit like this there often aren't the aftermarket range of off-the-shelf options where you can say brand a is better than b, etc. You've just got to examine it, if you're not sure what you're looking at, then photos, lots of photos, paste them up and someone will be able to take a look and at least give you an idea. Neat loom construction, with proper cable support, sheathing, booted connectors etc are all good identifiers of a well made, quality loom, but there's so much more to it than that, and is often hard to explain, sorry. When viewing and evaluating Westfields, one of the best pieces of advice I've ever seen, is to look at as many as you can; it doesn't matter if they're for sale or not, or even the right engine! The more you see - and speak to the owners, to get the background info, the more you'll get a feel for what's good and what's Ok, and what's not so good. Generally speaking, assuming everything is actually done correctly, the more OCD someone has been during a cars construction, the better!1 point
