Firstly I would like to add our thanks to Brad and Diane for all the preparation and planning for the mystery tour - we thought we had done well completing the 200 mile loop, but they had done it 3 or 4 times before, during planning! If anyone is thinking of doing it next year - dont hesitate, as its a fantastic idea, best shared with a co-pilot, but fine solo. Taken at your own speed, the roads, views, and lack of traffic make it very special. It has even managed to re-kindle my wife's interest in the Westy, and she is now more than happy to do many more events like this now (hoping to both sign up for the Mc Westy wigwam weekend next year as well). She really enjoyed the whole weekend, and also the social side - the McWesty clan is so welcoming to old and new members (her words!). Gary and Trina travelled the furthest, but doing long road trips is what Westfield-ing is all about, isnt it? We hope Brian gets the car sorted asap, and hopefully back on the road before we lose the best of the weather. Dave and Jenni.4 points

What a fantastic day I have had today. Felt so unbelievably relaxed and enjoyed every minute of my day. Up at stupid "o" clock and went for breakfast at a little cafe on Bridlington Harbour. The harbour was so quiet and it was a lovely place to sit and eat. [shame about the smokers so I eventually moved inside the cafe. Lovely clean food, well priced and super coffee and it made a great start to the day. I stopped at Hornsea Mere to feed the birds and then made my way to the bunker. WOW is an understatement. The bunker is absolutely huge and so interesting. It even has 3 floor levels. All areas apart from a small section are available for viewing. They encourage you to touch items and they even removed chains in areas to grant us better access. Inside is a recreation area and the juke box, space invaders, pool table and pinball all have permanent credits on them for you to play as long as you like. I had a great time playing Galaxian, Scramble and darts. Pinball also took a hammering. The guides who take you round are really informative and friendly and I was in the place nearly 3.5 hours. Lots of top secret stuff on show and various films been played giving the history and role the bunker played throughout the Cold War. One room I found very moving and left with a tear in my eye. From here I ventured to Cherry Cobb Sands to find the decoys that they built in the war to move the port of Hull. Lamps would be hung from wooden poles, with the light shining down onto artificial pools of water underneath. The pattern of lights would hopefully resemble Hull docks when viewed from a passing Luftwaffe aircraft, and so trick the bomber crews into attacking empty mud flats and farmland safely away from the city. I was over the moon when I found the place and will be going back for drone footage. I also found the location of a heavy gun battery nearby which is well hidden but I have been told that there is quite a lot left to see, so that is a return visit. Even saw a huge field just full of sunflowers. Here are a few pictures of my day.3 points

Hi, Since last friday I own a Westfield Sport 2000. Its build in 2005 and has a Duratec 2.0 engine with 190 bhp. Excellent to drive the car. Have different things to do with the car, but we have nice weather here in the Netherlands. So just started with driving. I'm Edwin de Vries from the Netherlands, 49 tears old and living in Almere (nearby Amsterdam). I will learn, post and react. Want the best for my Westfield!2 points

What a fantastic weekend. Superb roads, gorgeous scenery, great company and even the Misses enjoyed it. Massive thank you to Brad and Diane for all the time they sacrificed and effort they went to in organising the event for the rest of us to enjoy. For those that didn’t make it this year, keep an eye out for the next one. Definitely not to be missed. Would be good to see more cars involved to justify the amount of planning it takes.......then maybe I won’t come in last😳 (not that it’s a race, but I did start first). Hope you get car sorted Brian. Just about sums up our day, all mucking in together and having a laugh along the way, great crowd. No, @Barnsley John Rita will remain FORD run, but you cannot deny that Honda jobby is one meaty engine and Ian definitely knows what to do with it. The old man had fun though!2 points

Hi Edwin, next Saturday morning seven westfield's will be disembarking the ferry in Zeebrugge, then journeying on to Achen, if you fancy a little run with some fellow Westfielders.2 points

Well that’s us home today we did 225 miles from Peebles, home we took a heap of back roads, mountain roads and some which I doubted if they should be called a road ... So totting up we’ve covered 655 miles this weekend stayed in 2 castles and had a brilliant time with the Clan on our mystery navigation run Roll on the next one2 points

A big thanks to everyone who joined in on the run, you all made it what it was. Having been on, and indeed organised, many of these tulip mystery runs back home in NZ (some up to 150 entrants), it's great to know that the formula works just as well with a group of Westies. Certainly gives me encouragement to organise another one, in the hope that a good number more join in on the fun - the more cars entered, the more fun it becomes, with crews crossing paths through the day. The great roads and scenery were a given, Scotland is riddled with them, and the weather really was one out of the bag. The social side is a bonus, everyone had a blast, and no divorce proceedings were undertaken! Having an event where the 'navigators' are having just as much fun can help loosen the purse-strings for that engine swap or new carbon thingy you've been after!👍😉 (or just a new front end in Brian's case, sorry mate, couldn't resist). So on those notes, I have already started thinking of route options for next year, and the more I think about it, the start and finish will more than likely remain the same, given the Cairn Lodge services is well placed and has plenty of space and there is plenty of accomodation options in Peebles for those who wish to stay over on the Saturday night. A new thread for 2020 will be posted in, well, 2020 - start of January. That gives plenty of notice for folk to schedule calendars and sort accomodation if required, for late August/early Sept (tba). Again, thanks to all on the run. The rest? - come and join us, it's a hoot.1 point

Well we bought it! Done about 200 miles in it today and love it love love it! Taken to it like a duck to water and oh heck its fast! It has a dry sump, stand alone engine management system and a million other things, its like a piece of artwork! The guy is as OCD as me when it comes to the finer details. Just need to sort the seats out now as me and the Mrs have been using cushions all day lol Going to fit some runners/rails and spacers tomorrow. Ive tried to put pics up but it wont let me keeps saying theyre too big, how do i reduce them in size?? Thanks for your replies1 point

😫😡 You can clearly see that you had nowhere else to go!! What a mess but I can see a new widetrack kit, some flared side panels and nifty new carbon cycle wings over the winter 😀1 point

It goes in. Its actually an approximate copy of the factory S2000S cars, which seems to work. How well, that’s another matter, I have pre and post IC temperature senders, so I guess i’ll find out, the whole idea of using a spare nose, was so that it could be chopped about as necessary to see what works best. I did get a Mini Cooper bonnet scoop to try, but it was just too wide, I did try modifying it, but by the time I’d cut enough out to make it the right width, it just looked wrong. Going to start out with this, and then if it needs to be radically bigger, AND I can get a good paint match to the bodywork, I’ll look at doing something more like the Caterham 620R intake, with a ramp down leading onto the cooler, and possibly an upwards lip on the rear edge of the slot, just to “grab” more air.1 point

Groeten, Edwin1 point

Yesterday morning we all met up at Happendon services for our mystery navigation run, where after a chat and introductions we were briefed on the days run by Brad and Diane. Issued with our navigation notes . So all loaded up the first car headed off into the unknown at 10.00 prompt, followed by the other “ intrepid explorers” at 2 minute intervals The first loop saw westies passing each other in different directions, which played tricks with your mind , but the notes and Trina’s instructions kept us going. We had a couple of mistakes partly due to differences in trip meters, partly due to the driver not listening, but it really is easy to get your mileage reset at a T junction and then adjust the pace note numbers on the fly , we had one small deviation at a fork in the road where we met Jim and Jean coming down and we turned at the farmyard to and returned to take the other fork We laughed and joked as it was obvious at times we were looping around and the people in villages laughing and waving too as we passed them again in a different direction. Stopping for our compulsory 30 minute lunch break we heard that Brian had unfortunately had an accident, being hit when almost stationary by an oncoming car! Fortunately Brian is ok and the car will sort. After lunch and talk of the mornings fun and adventure , we were off again. Filling up with fuel and enjoying some great border roads we arrived at the finish line in Peebles after 200 miles ( plus mistakes ) of fun filled driving and we even had the sun out to make the day even better. Then it was off to the hotel where everyone was meeting up for a debrief and dinner, where we were joined by Brian who had had a long wait for recovery and a hire car, but true to spirit instead of heading home he came and joined everyone for the evening Summing up a BIG thanks to Brad and Diane for organising this run it’s the first time we’ve done this and definitely won’t be the last It’s not a race so was done at your own pace with absolutely no emphasis on time or speed The roads were absolutely stunning from narrow country lanes to moorland peak roads with grass growing up through the tar, such little traffic they see. Strangely enough despite being in an area that is a lot higher populated than where were from there was very little traffic And normally on a run you have your route planned out but to drive 200 miles whilst being unaware of where you are or where you are going put a whole new fun factor on the day And thank you to all who came and supported the day , let’s double or treble the numbers next time.1 point

Down in the paddock at Curborough we found Garry Bunn talking to Paul and Alison, founders of WSCC, also to Stephen, while Derek was busy tickling the car. Supercharged Honda giving 430 bhp and weighing 540kg, you do the maths. 430+540=awesome Come closer Pete Goulding was there in his single seater Phil Williams was happy to show us his Hayabusa engined car Stickymint had his bonnet on when we arrived But not for long, another Hayabusa engined Westfield guess who arrived next overview of the paddocks with the Everall brothers in the foreground Back in the parking area next to the track there was 11 Westfields Now I can introduce the Peak District followers to Pokey, Stuarts car, you met his matching trainers earlier. Parked next to Andy and Sue's, with Bill's in the background Overview of the parking area with the track on the right and the viewing area Soon we were ready for the off, but what's this? my passenger has shrunk. Glen was taken off for a Honda Experience Day by Ian, while Ian's daughter, Charlotte, jumped in with me. Meanwhile Andrew had a start issue and received a bump start to get going. Nigel led us a lovely route past the JCB factory, over Blithfield Reservoir and into Ashbourne without passing a single speed camera. Thank you to Nigel for doing a great job and it was nice for me to follow for a change, it is a lot, lot easier. Lee took lots of photos as we travelled along and we will look forward to the results. Glen rather enjoyed the Honda ride, 'what a car' he said and sends his thanks. I took the lead in Ashbourne to guide us along the back lanes to Wetton. We crammed the cars into the car park and along the lane It was a table for 18 and this is the only cafe that I know that would accomodate that many people on a sunny Bank Holiday weekend. The service was excellent and so was the food. Food, did I mention food? that will include cake then and this place knows how to do cake. Which might also have a little bit to do with my choice of location. Decisions, decisions Orange and chocolate was popular Bill broke the trend with the lemon cake, slices only come in one size - huge It made sense for some of the more Southerly people to turn around here and the rest of us headed North on a super route to the Travellers Rest. Ian exited in style by giving us all a fighter jet sound track as he overtook us to pick up his route home, put it on your bucket list if you have never been overtaken by a Honda engined Westfield. At least he remembered his steering wheel before sitting in the car this time, even though somebody had hidden it, he did walk out of the cafe without it and I was wetting myself waiting for the penny to drop. He tells me revenge is sweet and I must admit that I am rather dreading the repercussions. On arrival at the Travellers Rest, John found a speck of dust on his car and immediatley tended to it 😀 Bill's clutch cable had broken as he arrived at the pub so it was all hands on deck to try and sort it, to no avail and the RAC was called Bill's car had to be moved and a driver was called for, as I was the lightest I thought it only right for me to volunteer and I got behind the wheel of the MIGHTY crossflow, while the others pushed. It was lovely sat outside the pub but soon HMP Barnsley needed it's inmates back so the Yorkshire Terriers departed John and Jacky Des and Debs Steve Johno and his mate Much later Andy and Sue made tracks too After a good while later Andrew and us headed East, leaving poor Bill to wait the last bit on his own and board the truck of shame. It has been a very enjoyable day, so varied starting at Curborough with the Speed Series, lots of driving, chatting , eating and even a bit of mechanicals. Best of all we have had a good laugh and that is because you are all great people, thank you for sharing your day with us xxxx1 point

Fun day had by all, great weather and everyone loved the roads. One casualty, Brian got swiped by a car on a single track road, got recovered back to Jedburgh, but is aiming to drive his road car to Peebles for tonight - in true Scottish style (and dedication to the McWesty Clan), he's booked the hotel and he's damn well going to use it! About ready to go down for dinner and drinks, so more detail and pics of the run to follow.1 point

Brief update on the state of my car after I got it delivered to my preferred repairer today: All driver’s side front: Upper and lower wishbones sheared Lower arm bracket sheared Shock absorber sheared Possible steering rack damage Side panel bent and broken Box chassis bent in two places Wheel scored and possibly bent Tyre may be compromised accordingly Cycle wing is shattered Cycle wing brackets broken Driver’s side mirror cracked Brake switch damaged Seat back broken Getting a local (known) specialist to look at the chassis - if he reckons it can be cut and will spring back to where it should be, all good 😊 If not, car will need to be stripped and bare chassis sent back to Westfield ☹️ Still fuming, but could have been worse - white van wummin could have wiped out a family of cyclists or folks out walking their dogs 🤬 Need to see what insurance broker says tomorrow (still closed due to English Bank Holiday weekend 🙄) I’ll keep you posted ... Cheers, Brian0 points

Just my luck, broken down on m53!! She’ll crank over but mot fire up 🙁 She starts then goes about half a mile before spluttering to a stop. Looks like the fault is the fuel, fuel pump is only showing 1/2 a bar0 points
