  1. We met at Sainsburys Andrew, Andy and Becky, Andy and Sue (only 3 Andys then),Chris, Simon, Nigel, Justin making 8 cars and 11 people. Simon Nigel Off we went along the back lanes A photo opportunity at a set of temporary traffic lights More back lanes To our first destination at the plague village of Eyam Eyam Hall has refurbished it's cafe and extended it's seating area, so it would be rude not to use it. Sue's Andy took a lot of stick for ordering the largest piece of chocolate cake. Posh voice mode - oh darling one has ordered a Pastel de Nata - to me and you that is a Portuguese egg tart, it was flipping gorgeous and I could have eaten 4 of them. It was delightful sat in the courtyard and we will definitely return there Back on the country lanes in a great big circle to nowhere To the Queen Anne at Great Hucklow for our 2pm reservation where the food, service and welcome was 10/10 and we will return here too. Bottoms up, a common photo pose from a Westfield owner. At least today Andy was looking underneath someone elses car. We then led Nigel, Andy and Andy over to the A515 for the road back South and what a cracking run, the roads were bigger, faster and very wierdly emptier with lots of twists and turns, oh boy, a great finish to a great day. Thank you everyone for your excellent driving and company, hopefully you have enjoyed the day as much as we have xxxxx

  2. We’ve made it to the first hotel in louxenburg and Wayne’s car has been ok. Terry has been sporting his new man bag which took all my concentration to not burst out in laughter 😝 We found an ice cream parlour on route and stopped for a break which was a godsend as it’s getting hot 😎

  3. We had a good night on the boat, late to bed and slept in so was woken by the cleaners trying to get into our cabin! Terry (ex member) loves his new WSCC glasses case we got him 😁 we managed about 100 yards on the continent before our firsts breakdown, Wayne’s had heat soak queueing for passport control and his battery ended up flat so Terry to the rescue for a jump start 👍 we’ve all forget our headlamp deflectors so have made do with bespoke gaffa tape alternatives!

  4. Pills haven’t worked but what the hell I’m coming anyway. Clearly what is needed is a long drive strapped into a seat so I can’t move. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking with it See you at Sainsbury’s.

  5. Oh and yes, swept wings do make a massive difference to the amount of spray coming up the sides of the cockpit. And before anyone throws in the old lift thing, there might be a small amount of measurable lift increase, but as long as the rest of the car is properly set up, just like any other Westfield, there is no appreciable feel of lift or lightness even at considerable speed. I've had mine the other side of 130mph, (obviously not UK public road), with no noticeable difference to cyclewinged cars I've driven. So go with what you like the looks of and don't be afraid to try something different.

  6. Some may say I'm greedy but I couldn't decide so I have one car with swept and one car with cycle. 🤗

  7. Hence my “quick release” ish flared arches, it takes a couple of minutes to whip one off and it doesn’t need any access from inside the car.

  10. Evening all, Just came across this video and wanted to share. It's a brilliant overview of all the sorts of adjustments we have on our cars, how to use them, when to use them, and what does what. The guy is mainly into rallying but he discusses track use too and all the info crosses over. Enjoy! Adam

  12. Let me tell you the story of my first drive in the Westfield in rain. All was ok until I turned a little right and the water off the tyre washed my face and hydrated my mouth. Cycle wings are good for the full alfresco feeling.

  13. Nope, Nem has done well to find a new replacement. I was going to look at fitting this one, not tried as of yet. Maybe over winter. https://www.autopartspro.co.uk/metzger-1813894

  16. I've watched cockpit videos of my swept wing car on track and there's very little perceptible movement of the wings due to airstream, but they do flap a bit as they are none-too rigid. Try lifting them by hand and even the slightest upward force moves them very obviously.

  17. Am I the only one converting from cycle to swept? Have bought a set to fit as a winter project. Our car looks more classic than racer with it's subtle decor and full chrome package so I reckon the swept wings will add to the flavour - plus I'm hoping they'll help in preventing water finding it's way past the doors and getting the soggy elbow syndrome. Whether you'd have them on your car or not, it does look cool following a swept-wing car through the twisties! @Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Secretary Have you noticed the droop of the FW boot somewhat mirrors the sweep of the wings - like it was meant to be?!

  19. It’s all a matter of preference and taste Of course, if swept wings aren’t your preference, you have no taste!

  20. Having come to Westfields from the "dark side" I have experienced both but prefer cycle wings since it makes it easier to work on the engine

  22. We just need dave to get a set of carbon swept wings to give the ultimate in contradiction of modern vs classic, to go with the fw body, mad supercharged engine and led lights

  23. You two deserve a medal for travelling the distance you did just to get to the start point. Thanks for making that effort. Thanks to Brian for acting as the anchor man all day in that awesome sound sounding Audi. Apologies that we lost you somewhere around Crieff/Comrie. I was sure you were with us as I could see the drls in my mirror but when we all bunched up in the town I realised it was a Mercedes and not your Audi. Hope it didn't spoil your day. We we had a few call offs from guys over in the East as the rain this morning was bad over there. Still, we had 6 cars which was a decent. I lead over Dukes Pass but it was still pretty wet so this was a relatively sedate pace. Heading through the tree covered roads to Kilmahog there were lots of large puddles. We headed for Killin and topped up with fuel and discussed whether to continue with the planned route. The skies said we should. Ben Lawers Dam was the next stop. Always a good photo op. Usually we continue on this road to Glen Lyon but I had gone over it last year and it was in really poor condition. This was confirmed by a passing 4x4 so we headed back to the main road and then turned off for Fortingall and over the Schiehallion road at a good pace on dry roads. Rannoch Station is at the end of about a 25 mile single track road which makes it sound like a nightmare road but it's not. It's a great run with some superb roads and scenery and a very nice cafe where we had lunch. Graeme (Scottish Westy) took the lead for the run back, this time along the other bank of Loch Rannoch and onto Loch Tummel. Mainly narrow or single track again but Graeme lead at a brisk pace and other cars in the main let us all pass. Pitlochry was our next fuel stop and route chat. We were only on the A9 for a couple of short stints before returning to the back roads. As we all came from different parts of the country, we split after Comrie. Graeme, Andy and I had a brilliant run back to the Glasgow area. With Graeme leading on roads he knows very well, this was quite spirited and really enjoyable with slower cars dispatched quite easily and all three cars staying in convoy. All in all, another great day out with nice guys and some good stories and banter. What more could we want, we even had sunshine. Thanks everyone.

  26. What an amazing turn out ! The Essex members had a real treat this month with the arrival of the sevens club and MK club,i arranged with the other clubs for a one off meet, and boy it was a good one,the pictures i'm told do not do the meeting justice, maybe a video next time, some members having the usual breakfast and others just wanting to talk cars and cross platform ideas, i was away in Devon with the family, but i look forward to the westfield on the beach meet at the end of the month, please taker some time to look at the fabulous machines at the meet, i am glad this meet went as well as it did, Bill Essex AO
