Having visited Le Mans on two excelent road trips in 2017 & 2018, it feels rather strange being at home this year. Especially seeing posts on here and social media of others doing Le Mans 2019. On Tues 25th June, I depart from home with @Greenstreak-Andy D @Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Secretary & @westyjord87 joining me in the Peak District. We're crossing from Hull to Zeebrugge, driving to Dusseldorf and then taking the night train to Innsbruch. We've then got 3 days of Alp pass blatting planned, folowed by a drive home via the Porsche Museum in Stuggart and the Ring. We'll try to update as we travel, though can't guarantee the tale to be told as well as those on the recent Switzerland trip! Other than Dave's car still completing winter upgrades and Jordan's got no front discs, we're ready!4 points

My son and his partner (I'm old fashioned & I know I shouldn't moan about the non wife status) have blesses the Sage & I with a grandson, he's a complete clone of our son right down to the right arm to the ear asleep mode, so 2 questions, is it possible to get an adaptor bracket that fixes the child seat to the roll bar of the ASBO & is it legal? A very happy and proud Nem...........1 point

Hi everyone. I pick up my SEight on Saturday, second hand (2008) and I’m hoping it’s a good one🤞Oh and I hope it’s dry on Saturday! When I get it home, clean it and then what? apart from wiping the smile from my face? Obviously I checked all I could at the time of buying but what checks would members recommend in the first few weeks of ownership and what would you recommend to get to know a westie for the first time? l looked at kit cars 20 year ago but couldn’t really afford one. I’ve brought a completed car this time with a view to get to understand them better and if a really like it then perhaps build my own one in a few years time. Pointers appreciated.1 point

On our travels we went through many, many tunnels and avalanche galleries. They where really interesting and its amazing how they have been made in the places some of them are located. The longest we went through was 13km long. Some even had other tunnel sections coming into them inside the tunnels. At one point Jude was to close to me and messages flashed up telling her to back off. Anyway, if tunnels are your thing, then here are a few of the ones we went through.1 point

Thanks @Gary Taylor - Scotland AO We've got a great hotel recommended by a german biker colleague. They specialise in hosting bikes wanting to ride passes, and even program your sat nav with routes to suit your desired riding/driving requirements. The passes you recommend are a good 3 hours drive from our base in Nauders, Austria. If we get bored of the Austria and Italy ones, we can always pop over. Just need some dry weather to get there and back in, given I'm the only non 'screen queen' on our trip!1 point

Have a great trip Jordan really will need those discs lol if you get a chance the splugen pass followed by the San Bernardino pass then the chiara and up to the oberalp pass are a good day not forgetting the restauranti ospiziso ( only takes euros) at the top of the San Bernardino there are plenty of filling stations some unmanned that take card payments 24 hrs depending on when you go they have road signs in plenty of time telling you the passes name and whether it is open or closed enjoy1 point

Enjoy it What spec is it? If you have underslung exhausts watch out for speed humps (especially the ones in Islip), and if you have a standard sump remember that is the next lowest point so don't centre obstructions in the road (bricks, rocks, logs) as you may catch them (depends on your ride height and set-up). I drove mine around Oxford for 8 years and there are some fantastic roads but some that have very pronounced subsidence which used to make my ground on the exhaust at higher speeds. If you have side pipes you should be fine. Happy driving. Luke.1 point

If I want the whole car lifted, I use a pair of ramps. Depending on which end of the car you intend to work on, either drive the front wheels on and jack up and axle stand the rear or visa versa. I do wonder given the shape of a Westy if you could drive one onto four ramps?1 point

First thing to do is to get out and drive it. Also get along to your local meeting, you'll soon get used to it.1 point

My 8 year old nephew screams when the throttle bodies really start to roar, and hits me to slow down. I kinda treat him like a shift light... :-)1 point

Isn't the fact that a lithium ion battery (of the sort that Simon is considering) has a very low storage capacity the reason why most who use them for sprinting/hillclimbs tend to have an anderson socket permanently wired in to the battery, so that a slave (external) battery rigged up with an anderson plug, or a powerpack, can be connected up when starting up in the paddock, leaving the capacity of the on board battery full to start the engine in the event of a stall or having to shut down the engine near the start line if there is an incident on track just ahead of you? Terry can give a definitive answer to this, because I know that he has such an arrangement on his car. Simon, I hope your upgrades include making the passenger seat slightly more accommodating for a well built passenger?!😄1 point

I've fallen asleep on the back of my mates motorbike twice while travelling long distance at night. Bizarrely you stay seated, like a bird sleeping on a branch, but it's freaky for the first 10 secs when you wake up! Have to say, the number of people I see with 4-point harnesses that are adjusted wrong is very numerous. If that car had crashed, she would have slid under the belt and crammed into the footwell and garotted herself on the lap belt on the way. Do the lap belt up first, tight to the hip bone, and under the gut if you're portly, then adjust the shoulder belts to take out the slack but not lifting the lap belt. People give 4-points this mythical superiority over 3-points, but if worn incorrectly, can do more harm than good.1 point

Yes sorry, been a bit busy and car still awaiting fix this weekend (fingers crossed) Still on for 22 and the weather will be fine! Will be good to catch up. @markat hope you can make it - will be good to meet you. @GarethHD good of you to come to the start. I’ll be having my breakfast somewhat earlier though! Thank you Lord. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to test my wet weather gear today, ready for the YDG. Thank you for the perfect deluge and flood, as I was leaving home, which exposed the leakage points, of which there are many. Thank you for dumping the gallon of water that had collected on my half hood onto my seat as I squeezed into the car. Finally, thank you for bringing out the sun and blue skies as I arrived home.
