Here we are the morning after, sat with a coffee , reflecting on a great adventure No it wasn’t all sweet and smelling of roses, with a couple of minor breakdowns and a major one with Jude’s engine. Not to mention the times we were “ temporarily unaware of our location “ But and a big But we met some fantastic people en route, that didn’t speak English but tried, as we were trying to speak french or german and we got by with a laugh and wave Everywhere we went people, bikers and drivers waved, took pictures and enjoyed seeing the Westies So we’ve learned a few lessons for next time, and put a few more ideas in the pot To sum up , I personally would like to thank all who came along, everyone who shared in our enjoyment home and abroad. And to Trina who supported me and encouraged me through the hiccups and despite being scared of heights had a go at every thing and really enjoyed the trip thank you one and all niw to get to get the car ready for our next trip in 2 weeks 😁4 points

Well that was fun, setting up a new laptop, not my idea of a nice Sunday evening but it gets me to here. We met at McDonalds, a very soggy McDonalds, but it was warm and friendly inside once everyone had turned up After Martyn2breakfasts 😀 finally finished eating, we went to a very quiet GBS and made straight for the Escort Nice interior, you would feel safe in that I asked for the bonnet to be opened, but disappointingly the bay was empty An example of the engine was in an adjacent Zero. It is a 2.5 litre Duratec which are normally found in heavy vehicles, they are imported from Mexico, it has their own design water rail (no expansion bottle) and their own design throttle bodies. The ECU is either Emerald or Life. An overview of the factory area, Escort on the left and the Zero containing the engine on the right. I feel very uncomfortable calling it an Escort, it would be like calling my car a Lotus 7. Outside Andrew and Clare were looking very lonely in the car park Next, we went to the Thaymar Ice Cream Farm for a hearty lunch and ice cream of course. I was highly delighted when they got my order wrong and fetched me an extra ice cream. Here is a tip, order a Rocky Road and a Raspberry Ripple so the waitress writes it down as 1xRR, 1xRR, you will get a double raspberry ripple and they will bring you an extra rocky road. It was lovely.3 points

I was amazed at the length of the channel tunnel trains. There carriages are split into two with and upper and lower deck. Toilets where clean and I didn't check the time but it was only about 20 minutes to get through.....I think.3 points

We travelled through various French villages and tried to keep of main roads where possible. One village appeared to be very poor in parts and one extremely wealthy. The first village in the video really does not show how "rustic" it was but I would have loved to have stayed there the night.3 points

A few of the passes that we wanted to do where closed. To get to the other side of the mountain you travel on these trains that carry the various vehicles trough the mountain. They are really efficient and so easy to use. Just make sure you don't have anything in the car that can blow out when going through. It can get a bit expensive though if you have to use a few.3 points

Honestly, just do it! Despite having “done the highlands” a few times, I still discover the most amazing roads. Today though, the glenshee road was superb. Miles and miles of fantastic twistiness. You lucky, lucky McWesty Clan.3 points

Nemesis, In which section was it supposed to be posted? Have you duplicated the post in the correct section? Should you ever happen to do this again just use 'Report post' function in the right-hand side of your post, this then allows you to add some text e.g. "I have posted this in the wrong section. Could a Mod please move it to ........." and we can sort it no problem.2 points

It is amazing how the Swiss have constructed their roads where they have. Here is a little video of one of the easier drives down the sound of a hillside.2 points

My issue had some dust on pages 8-9 that affected my eyes and made them water... anyone else have dust in their issue? Well done to all those who contributed, fine work2 points

We've been on some fab trips. Two years in the Isle of Man, two very wet years in Scotland, yet the YDG has continued throughout, don't know how many years, but it has proved to be a favourite. It's a cornerstone of our area, and over the years we've been joined by a few other areas to share the experience. The YDG started off as a two day event, soon became a three day event and this year some are doing four days. It doesn't matter what you want to do, even a run out on the Friday if that's all the missus will allow. I'm fortunate, swmbo just says, see you when you get home. Epic memories, Daz spinning on the hairpin in the Elan Valley, borrowing a hacksaw from the Devil's Bridge cafe, Emily's tea room franchise, Peter Darwin in a cloud of dust and stones, where's Frank, Kylie in the Ridgebourne Inn, and many, many more. This year will be great, Jeff has sorted a great route and found ideal accommodation. Bring it on.2 points

Geoffrey. That video and music was brilliant. Well done. We are going to miss the daily updates.1 point

Absolutely brilliant Geoffrey. I kept expecting an explosion every time you went into a tunnel. We played On Days Like These up every pass in Italy when we were there a couple of years ago. Excellent.1 point

Good day! Amazing how stepping away for a while can make things easier. Bit of thought overnight and away we go. First up, comparison of old vs new injectors. Can injectors be sexy? Not sure. But the new ones are pretty damn awesome. Got the fuel pipes off so I could get the injector rail out fully, clean everything up, grease and install the new injectors and reinstall. Boom! Simple as that. Also, the boot of my camper makes an exceptional portable workstation. So, onto mapping the ECU. Followed the fairly straightforward instructions, clenched my a hole super tight and turned the key. Fired straight up. Woo hoo!! Its not running right, pretty obviously as it's on a base map, but it idles and revs fine, so hopefully I can drive it for mapping soon. Awesome!1 point

Are you sure it was water? Perhaps you didn't have enough comfort breaks! 😁1 point

Superb guys, absolutely superb. I can’t tell you what a glorious shot in the arm it was just speaking to everyone today, and witness the shear drive and willingness to go the extra mile. Truly outstanding. These guys weren’t just getting to unbolt bits of their cars to help a fellow member in need, they were all quite willing to drive, in one case nearly an hour each way to do it!. The spirit and camaraderie of the club in a nutshell.1 point

We travelled through lots of different tunnel designs. These are a pair of the shorter ones. The longest we went through was 13km long and one even had junctions inside where other tunnels met. In one, Jude was driving to close behind me and warning messages flashed up telling her to back off.1 point

Fine topic, its time for a huge change but what are the chances of it happening.. We need a political revolution and I don't know where new and able leaders would come from... Money / class rules?1 point

John think it was Cheryl not Kylie, I can still hear Frank shouting to me, left, NO right then eight Westfields ending up in that farm yard, the 2012 video that Graham did and not to mention the guy who led the way down the Elan Valley for only one mile only to lead us all onto a dusty car park, I couldn't stop laughing all day, great memories. Just finished reading it. Great issue! Judes story was hearbreaking to read but it's lovely to see the car being used and kept in the family. A lovely way for Jude to keep the memory of her husband with her. I hope i never have to part with my Westie, but if i do, it would be great to be able to get it back a few years down the line! Good coverage of the Stoneleigh show too. I was there on the Monday and had a great day, even if the show does seem to be shrinking. 😢 Nice article on Patrick from Westfield sports cars Ltd. Good to be able to put a face to the name, as he has been a regular visitor to the site and seems to be forging some good links between the club and the company. He has a good history with niche cars by the looks of it, and seems to be doing a great job for Westfield. I do look forward to my copy of the magazine falling on the doormat! Thanks to all involved, Keep up the good work!1 point
