Passed with flying colours! I specifically asked Mr Mansley to scrutineer the car and all was fine, the fact is i have a CAT fitted means that i am complying with the regulations, i will leave it with you to ti ascertain how effective it is.2 points

I took the spark plugs out and got the engine turning over by hand so that’s the main thing I was concerned about sorted out. Also got the brakes freed off too but I may replace all the discs or get them skimmed. Will see how they look once it is running and I can drive it up our cul de sac and get rid of the corrosion a little if I can.2 points

As @marcusb kindly reminded me, next week it is the official (ish) National Drive Your Westfield to Work Day on May the 24th. But because the weather can be a bit on/off, you have the whole week (20/05 to 26/05) to attempt to drive your Westfield to your place of work and proudly post a picture of it. Of course, some of you will be retired, some of you maybe (hopefully not!) unemployed, and some of you may have some other excuse NOT to drive your car... so just be creative! The point is to get people to drive their Westfields beyond the odd weekend. Westfields can and should be driven as often as you can! Here's what we got up to in 2018 and 2017.1 point

Cleaned up really well, though looks like a lot of spiders just lost their home! It wouldn’t appear to have been to far off with the SVA/IVA prep at the time, which is a good sign. Hopefully it will just be the usual round of little tweaks and refinements rather than anything too big. One immediate thought though, as it is a little trickier to do on a built up car; have you got the fuel tank crash bar on the back - it’s a solid steel bar that bolts across the upper rear inboard wishbone mounts, and prevents the fuel tank, in the event of a small rear impact, from being punctured by the wishbone mounting bolts. I do recall your car building plan at the time. It was always going to be a bit of an ambitious way to make a living, if using Westfields as the base model, unless you found away to really differentiate you version from anyone else’s, and hence charge reasonable price.1 point

I built it on a full time basis after MG Rover closed, it on its wheels and running in three weeks but I do know what you mean, the fully built option is favourable. My original plan was to build them and sell them but I think, looking back, that was not really the greatest idea I ever had !1 point

In part, headlight choice depends how much you plan to use them. My car has the little dominators, which are fine for my purposes but you wouldn't spec them for a night stage. Daniel1 point

Good work. I'm picking up a re-engine job on mine 2years it dropped a valve and I started the job, following much change in circumstance (found a girl, moved house, moved job, house is a project of its own right, usual) I a determined not to miss the whole summer! Post on here if there is anything we can help with. Might even have another member nearby who can come over for ab evening. Daniel1 point

Welcome back! Good luck in getting it finished, if you post some photos up I’m sure we can help identifying IVA jobs as things may have changed over the years.1 point

Hope to be in the Westy for Bo'ness. It'll depend on the weather nearer the time, and who's coming with me.1 point

Well, short story long, I will finally reveal the secret. Years ago, I had the same problem of tarnished catches. After scratching my head for several seconds, I decided to approach NASA to help find a solution. A government fund of $7million was awarded to help with the research. I worked closely with the scientists to try to solve the dilemma, and after 7 years of painstaking (sometimes heartbreaking and frustrating) experimentation, we came upon a solution to the problem, and as a byproduct, to this day, is used daily on the ISS to help maintain its lustrous protective finish. You will not believe the final result of our joint research. It will astound you, and I will now reveal the outcome. But, even now, after every trip, the bonnet catches have to be very carefully removed and each subjected to 7 hours of meticulous cleaning under clean laboratory conditions to preserve the finish. Are you ready for this? Wipe with spray wax now and again! Enjoy Switzerland, and I wish we could join you on the trip. David1 point
