A perfect example of obeying the letter of a badly constructed law/regulation etc, whilst sticking the middle digit up at the principle.4 points

My first group run of 2019 - Considering the modest numbers, it was a great day yesterday (apart from the unbelievably slow motorbikes - 35-40mph on NSL roads - what a waste...) Anyway - great to see another newbie to the posse - it means I'm not the newbie now! "TwoCakesMike" is going to stick...🍩🍰 I'm pretty sure I've never driven directly behind Andrew's SEight before - that was a pleasurable education Great roads, very dry (although a bit bumpy in places). One thing not mentioned so far is that whilst Julie managed to avoid cow crap on the roads, she still managed to seek it out being sprayed all over a field 🤢 Looking forward to the next one now!3 points

I don't care if they have a 'confirmatory people's vote or whatever euphemistic warm and cuddly term they care to use, as long as 'Remain' is not on the paper. There must be two options only: leave with no formal agreement, or adopt Mrs May's semi-leave, semi-stay so-called deal. Whether to leave or remain was already decided and nobody knows any more about the likely consequences now than they ever did since we have not left. What I have learned is how hostile our self-styled 'friends' in the EU organisation are and how duplicitous.3 points

Julie, Glenn Nigel, and Andrew thanks for being so welcoming when a random Westfield turns up to join the fun. Take note anyone else that decides to join in the peaks trips be prepared for the initiation process!! I was forced to have two cakes, every newbie has to have two cakes that's what you all said!!! Oh, and on the first stop of the day I had to have an all day breakfast whilst you all had a salad! If that wasn't enough I arrived home at 5:15 and walked into a roast beef dinner. Thanks for the advice Julie on a route home, my reply was no worries I will just hit the home button on the sat nav whilst avoiding the motorway and major routes, good plan shocking initial outcome. We often talk of ground clearances with a Westfield well I needed it, gravel tracks and eventually a ford that I could have swam in! Sat nav preferences adjusted and back on to at least single track!! Well it kept me out a little longer in the sun and I found even more twisty roads... Still cant get over how slow the motorbikes were! Motorbikes never hold you up, well they all did today.. Thanks Again all...3 points

Johnny Walker first began producing racing cars in 1965 with his prototype Walker Type 65, the following year the JW4 Mk2 his first production racing car was released to the market at the 1966 Olympia Racing Car Show. Chassis 6010 was originally built to Class 1 formula IV regulations with a 250cc single cylinder engine and later a 500cc Velocette but following the demise of Formula IV in the UK the car was to discover a new life as a hillclimb special in the hands of Ronald and John Shapley. By the mid-1970's Shapley had developed the car far beyond its origins. Carrying sponsorship by Carburol Oils and fitted with an 1050cc Kawasaki Z1 engine success was to follow within the racing car class that lead to a multi page feature in the pages of Car and Car Conversions. After the chassis eventually succumbed to the abuse of power far beyond that for which it was originally designed a full rebuild was commissioned from JW4 aficionado Rod Pickup in Blackburn that included additional bracing and reinforcement to the JW4 chassis. Over the following years the car passed between several owners and underwent further bodywork changes along the way until the Carburol Special was to eventually return to the ownership of Rod Pickup. Rod stripped down the car for restoration but progress stalled and sadly due to his sudden death in 2014 this rebuild was not be completed and the Carburol Special was sold again to its present owner. This car has now completed a chassis up rebuild over the last 3 years and is presented in 1966/7 class F4/2 Formula IV specification with all latter period modifications to the chassis retained. The surviving original parts have all been refurbished and used throughout the restoration but where unavailable or lost replacements have been sourced or made accurately to the original factory drawings and tooling. The chassis is presently fitted with a mock 500cc Triumph unit twin to give future owners flexibility in their final choice of championship or alternatively for static display. The car has a fully documented competition, owner and photographic history and has been rebuilt to comply with current MSAUK Regulations. With the right engine it is eligible for historic sprint, hillclimb in the 600cc classes, HSCC Formula Junior (Class G7) and 500 Formula 3 circuit racing offering potential buyers a very affordable entry into historic Motorsport or to enjoy in a private collection. Chassis: Retaining all latter modifications, reinforcement and alterations. Shot blasted; zinc pre-treatment and powder-coated Wheels: 10" JA Pearce Magna Alloys fitted with Falken FK-07E Tyres Shocks & Springs: Protech 400 Series single adjustable with Faulkner 8" 100lbs springs front and 125lbs rear. Suspension Uprights: JW4 Magnesium Brakes: BMC Mini 8" hydraulic drum brakes front and rear fitted with aluminium Minifin drums. Steering: Bespoke JW4 Rack and Pinion Wishbones and trailing arms: Rose Jointed and Bright Nickel Plated Safety: 1-1/2" Diameter CDS ROPS, MSAUK period defined Bodywork: New JW4 Mk2 3-piece moulding by Applied Fibreglass This is a unique opportunity to own one of the last few remaining JW4's and with a full history. With a guide price of £13,500, serious sensible offers are invited and prospective buyers are encouraged to contact me to discuss the car and for further details. The car is located in Colchester which for buyers who may be interested that are overseas is 30 minutes from the Port of Harwich for Ferries to the Hook of Holland and 2 hours from the Port of Dover for Ferries to Calais. The car will also be on display at Crystal Palace in London for Motorsport at the Palace on 26th/27th May 2019. For more information about the Johnny Walker JW4 and Formula IV please see the build thread for this car and my other JW4 at http://www.jw4.co.uk Thank you for reading Mark E. wsccessex@btinternet.com2 points

Good News re the CAT issue, I have fitted the following, a Redback Fault Correction Mini Catalytic Converter which is available fro Demon Tweeks for £76 I did the sprint at Curborough at the weekend and advised the scrutineer of my issue at Anglesey and what I had fitted. He was happy with this and i was allowed me to run with no issues. I also asked him to 'positively endorse' my MSA vehicle passport for future reference to this effect. He examined the mini cat at lunchtime (asking to see inside it which is a 10 sec job to remove it), I also provided him with description printed from Demon Tweeks advert, along with the invoice. I was lucky that my exhaust already had a take off for a lamba sensor that is blanked off, so all I have done is now fit the blanking plug to the end of the mini fault correction CAT Worst case for anyone that doesn't have one fitted is that you would have to get one welded in So I now have a CAT fitted! Redback's Catmini is designed for cars with Cat Replacement pipes. As the name suggests it is a miniature catalytic converter. It mounts onto the cat replacement pipe lambda sensor hole and filters the exhaust gasses going to the lambda sensor. On cars with cat replacement pipes this will mean the lambda sensor is reading the exhaust gasses through catmini. This should remove the emissions warning light and prevent any ECU issues. Please note that this only filters gas going to the lambda sensor, not gas leaving the rear of the exhaust. While a vehicle fitted with one of these will not show an error light it will not pass an emissions test. Fits M18x1.5 thread size.2 points

Not loosing any fingers, breaking or dropping the camera or touching the exhaust, or crashing It's a great shot!2 points

I was in the process of looking for a replacement to the Westfield logo that was on the back of Buttercup. At the same time, @IanK (Bagpuss) was producing silhouettes of members cars so my search was about to come to fruition. I contacted Ian and he was happy to help and so various designs went between us so that I achieved the look I was looking for. I would like to thank Ian for all the help and time he gave for this little project to happen. Here is a picture of the logo on Buttercup and I hope you like it as much as I do. You will notice the Buttercup in the grill. It was a brilliant idea by Ian but thanks also go to @Gary Taylor - Scotland AO for the suggestion to have the flowers yellow.2 points

I knew it was going to be a good day. Music on. I have over 170 albums on my phone so probably well over 2000 tracks. First one Bohemian Rhapsody - what a start. Sorry neighbours for the bad singing if you could hear me over the engine at 7.30 on a Sunday morning! Then came Stairway to Heaven, Hotel California, Comfortaby Numb, and then Come with Me by Jimmy Page /Puff Diddy. Five of the best tracks all in a row on a random play. Fantastic.2 points

@neptune and @Jude - The Mad Widow. Shall we say leave Newport Pagnell services at 11am, that gives us 1.5hrs to get to Thurrock and meet the rest for 12.30? Well will leave Brum by 9.30 so should be at Newport Pagnell services by 10.451 point

Great that they accepted it! Weird, given it's as effective at reducing emissions as a cat in a plastic bag in the footwell, but great anyway.1 point

Can someone please explain to me why I bothered sorting a route out last night. I thought we would go a whack round and finish up at Willersley Castle, until there was 4-way traffic lights at Cromford, so we just made it up today and it was no less of a day for it, just a bit of a strange route. We met at Sainsbury's, Andrew, Nigel and a newcomer, Mike. 3 Zetecs so guess what was the main topic of the day. We set off on a circular route, at one time doing 40mph in a 50mph zone behind some motorbikes, slower round the bends, que? thankfully they were going straight on as we turned off along some more twisties. Eventually we hit the traffic jam and after a couple of minutes it became apparent that we were in for a long wait, there simply is no other way to get to Willersley Castle, so we abandoned that for another day, did a 3 point turn and went to the Stone Centre for lunch instead. The great thing about the road to nowhere is that it can turn into the road to anywhere that suits the moment. Bonnets Off at the Stone Centre Nigel makes me laugh, a very straight talking bloke, he sorted us out with a great suggestion on a route for the afternoon. It's a good job he did because as I didn't think anyone was coming, I hadn't set a route for the afternoon. So with the plan sorted we set off on some lovely, scenic roads, nice and twisty and much better when you are not following yet another slow motorbike. What is it with the motorbikes today? Twist the throttle pleeeease. In the sun And in the lush green shades. Mike was the rear car and had his lights on, now there is a good idea! made my job so much easier We arrived at Wetton, it was a first for everyone and I think it is safe to say they were all impressed with the choice of cakes, homemade by the lady that served you. The car park was full when we arrived, so we parked on the lane. You know by now what comes next, a monkeys tea party, but just a minute, there seems to be 6 cakes. Yes, 6 cakes and 5 people, but the best is yet to come. Mike underestimated the size of the portions and found that he couldn't finish the second piece, oh what a shame, but he was in good company as Andrew and I shared the scraps. Bakewell cake, almond flavoured with cherries plus Victoria sponge cake. Even a tea cosy on the tea pot, how very quaint. Mike2cakes, fitting in very, very well. That carrot cake was delicious too. The car park had emptied and a beautiful, black Morgan adorned our view. We later found out that it housed a V6 engine, it was eerily quiet. I called Nigel over to show me how to take a better photograph and he took time out to teach me, of which I am grateful for. What do you think, it is a much better photo than I had taken. Next minute I am sat on the floor for this one, well worth it though. As we went to pay our bills the lady informed us that Mike had already paid. What an amazing guy, fun, friendly and generous too. There has been a lovely crew out today, full of knowledge, good drivers in good cars, what a great car club to bring us all together, I can't wait to see you all again.1 point

@Andrew my place might be available sadly. My clutch is misbehaving it’s slipping AND not going into gear when hot! Planning on some investigation and further adjustment tests tonight and also trying to fix over weekend. But if it’s a gearbox issue as well as a slipping clutch I’m out.0 points
