  1. Never wanting to dampen a sale or a purchase and being completely impartial, all I can add is; head over heart. If you've the skills, time and money to put things right, you may get just as much enjoyment out of this car as you would with any other car. If you are looking to make the most of a solid car initially, there will be others out there...

  3. Had a long overdue day off yesterday and made good use of it I went for my annual engine check and a run on the rollers ,it’s times like this I realise my cars potential is much greater than the drivers

  6. Morning guys, Saying hello from Coventry (Warwickshire). Just picked up my first Westfield and I am looking forward to the Kit Car Show this weekend. It's a 1997 1600 SE x flow. My drive back home was my first drive in a Westfield and it was a lot of fun! Cheers, Chris

  8. Quick update. Priority number 1 is to sort the exhaust leak, so I've ordered all kinds of gaskets, exhaust hangers etc to cover all bases. Then, an infectious disease, clearly lying dormant from Westfield ownership, has taken affliction. Upgraditis strikes! I've bought a new PnP ecu, injectors, electronic boost control, boost gauge and all associated fittings. I'm hoping that once the exhaust is sorted, this will see the potential of the engine unleashed!

  10. Don't worry about the power - it went well as you say 180 - 190bhp is fine for the car. Back damage should not be a worry really. Changing the bushes shouldn't be a worry either (over the winter). I doubt if I would change the chrome to black - chrome looks so much smarter on a dark coloured car imo.

  12. A bit more blurb.. At the briefing I counted 16 people, so it was obvious it wasn't going to be too busy on track! No idea why.. I'm hoping it wasn't the split format, clockwise in the morning and reverse in the afternoon puuting people off, as I really rated it. Hoping they'll do some more. I love the way they do things at KH. No noise testing, and no sighting laps. Out of the briefing and onto the track. First session on track didn't go well however. I was bumbling round warming things up, perhaps only done 3 or 4 laps when they chucked out the black flag for me. I couldn't see anything obvious.. all gauges looked OK.. and then I caught a puff of smoke in my mirror. Pulled off line and coasted back into the pitlane fearing .. I don't know what! By the time I got into the pitlane there was a serious amount of smoke coming from under the bonnet.. removed bonnet, and there was oil all over the place! Part of my prep for the day was setting the valve clearances, they hadn't been touched for ages! I've never had much success getting the OE cork type cam cover gaskets to seal, so invested in an expensive (£15!) rubber gasket from Burtons. It would appear the rubber gasket needs tightening down a lot more than the OE one. Much twirling of an allen key and all was sealed again. Did a couple of laps and came in to check.. all tickety boo! The morning seemed to disappear quickly, nothing much to report, other than loads of clear track, and I managed to drop my PB into the 57s. Well chuffed with that, as I thought I was starting to slow up as the age crept higher! The afternoon was on the reverse circuit. At first it felt really really weird! I don't for one minute think I got properly to grips with it, but I did enjoy it immensely. I'd say it's a lot more technical than the clockwise layout. There are a good number of blind apexes, and as you enter the start straight at a higher speed, combined with more of it being downhill, the result it barrelling down towards the hairpin at a higher rate of knots! Don't think it helps either, that there's a large bump in the braking area. I don't think I got the hang of "Clark" corner at all. Braking has to be done rounding the right hand curve, before turning left. Weather was dry all day. Cool in the morning, but clear skies and tee shirt weather in the afternoon. Only took a few paddock pics, but will try and gets a couple of vids up this evening. I ran out of fuel at about 4-30, so chucked the car on the trailer and tried to miss some traffic on the Edinburgh bypass. Failed!

  23. Meeting Andrew and us in Sainsbury's were the Waterfall family, Chris Emm (2 lovely surprises as I didn't know they were coming), Becky and Andy, Bill, Richard and Tash. We sat drinking and excitedly chatting for quite a while until we had caught up on each others news. Bill sorted my phone out because he is good like that, thank you. Simon and the family with us We got back to the cars in Sainsburys car park just as the train came and Simon was good enough to photograph us all as we were ready for the off, hopefully he will put the photo on for us. However I did not get the train in my photo so you will have to make do with some Westfields instead I had set a route that was a lovely mix of A and B roads with many twists and turns in, a slow down and speed up kind of route allowing for much acceleration and fun. The route was slightly longer than normal so I factored a wee stop in at Millers Dale, it's actually just an excuse to get another photo of all the cars but don't tell anyone will you? Millers Dale Andrew took the opportunity to show his steam cleaned engine bay to us, he had used a wallpaper stripper and got a free sauna included. The first casualty of the day was Bill whose wing stay had broken on the weld. Glen helped to take the wing off, he is an expert at it now as ours broke last week too. All comfortable, we set off for the second leg of our journey, the sun shone, the roads were warm and dry.. As we pulled into the Stone Centre car park disaster struck and Andy ran out of petrol because his car was only firing on 2 cylinders, petrol was coming out of the exhaust pipe. Simon and the family had arranged to meet us here and it was Simon that was straight on his back underneath the car, what a great guy. Parked at The Stone Centre Everyone was hungry and we went for our lunch, Richard and Tash had a cake while they waited for theirs to arrive, now you can't knock that for an idea can you? Andrew had the beef stew, I have had this before and the beef just falls apart in your mouth, comes with buttered potatoes too. Bill sported his new T-shirt but did complain that on Number 5. they had spelt cake wrong All tummed up we had to come up with a plan of action and before we could work anything out I took Andy for some petrol while everyone kicked a tyre or two. Luckily Simon knew of a local petrol station that was not far away - you can come again Simon. Probably the best mode of transport today was taken by Archie Defeated, Andy rang the RAC who were going to be 3-4 hours, ever the optimist and with plenty of spare seats we all went for the cake stop down at The Fountain in Bonsall. Andy got to drive Andrews V8 engined car and Becky jumped in with Chris. Parked in Bonsall, 6 cars became 5 The cake arrived quickly and so did the RAC! but we were at a different place now, albeit on a few miles away. Sat outside The Fountain, Bonsall We wolfed the cake down, not difficult, then Andrew took Andy and I took Becky back to their car to meet the RAC Becky and I, or is it Thelma and Louise RAC man back at The Stone Centre Petrol was literally pouring out of the exhaust pipe as the engine was running, no wonder Andy ran out of petrol He changed the coil pack but that didn't work Andrew and I drove back down to the others at The Fountain and left the RAC man scratching his head. A tow truck was called and I am sure Andy will be calling upon this great club forum for some guidance on what could be wrong, at this stage is it the ECU? Back at The fountain Richard and Tash went on their way home and Chris and Andrew followed us towards Chesterfield. Thank you to everyone for the great company today, and Andy - everyone feels your pain, chin up

  25. Clashes with the Stoneleigh dates so not sure they'll be many Westfields at this event. My own car is in bits for an engine rebuild, so I might pop along to this in my tintop!

  26. - I get, as am sure do other Committee members, AO’s etc, an awful lot of emails, calls, PM’s etc from people trying to trace the back history of cars they’ve bought, or are looking to buy. So I know how thrilled they can be when they do find out more, and how disappointed sometimes, when it is just a dead end. My most favourite one ever was a year or two back. A member had just bought an SEiGHT and hit dead end after dead end trying to trace the history back, but managed to find the name of the original builder and that they’d been a well known member. We managed to work out what they’d called themselves on the forum, and although it was ten years plus since they’d been a member, even some old posts. I managed, back of house, to find a very old email address for them, and thought I’d give it a try, (they never normally work). So after speaking with the current owner, who agreed to me forwarding their details on, I sent the message out there... And got a reply!! The new owner had several really long chats with the builder, on the phone and was absolutely ecstatic- I believe, if I remember right, the chap that built it, even had a file of old related info and photos he sent the new owner. I understand they kept in touch. One of those moments that made up for all the times I’ve just had to go back to people and say sorry, no joy.

  27. More progress made. My evenings in the week were spent painting the various of the engine cradle so I would be able to bolt it in at the weekend, only a slight amount of fettling needed then it dropped straight in. Ŵ With good progress made early on I could then move onto the gear linkage. No photos of the next bit (sorry i forgot) but essentially the triumph's foot change was cut down and then milled to get both faces parallel so it would accept a clevis. Then finally the link rod was bent to shape so it would clear the side of the seat and the ends tapped for screwing into the clevis. Also a bit of period switch labelling completed
