I flew my flexwing to the south of France from Northumberland. Then to Normandy the year later. So four channel crossings in all. That was something I’ll never forget and do not regret flying them for one second. Great fun and honestly they are relatively safe as they glide very easily. But aviation is very, very unforgiving if something doesn’t go to plan regardless of aircraft type.2 points

Update 11/08/2019 - The Car has been sold and is off to Spain - Although the private registration is still available Hello, I'd been an active member or the Westfield Community for 15 years but a couple of years ago I broke my back in several places during a trampolining accident. Luckily none of the bone fragments did too much damage to the spinal cord and after the operation I've got nearly full movement back ( although left in constant pain ). For the last 2 years I've been unbale to drive my beloved Westfield which had taken me 5 years to build and was first registered in 2009. If I'd have just purchased a built car, I probably would have sold it a couple of years ago, but as it’s my baby I've been putting of this day. Unfortunately, I think it’s time I sold her and let someone else have the enjoyment out of her. She was built from all new parts with no expense spared during the build, the Specification is as follows: Westfield SEIW With Detachable Rear Arches in Crimson 2.0L Ford Duratec Engine with: Jennvy Throttle Bodies OMEX 600 ECU Raceline Water Rail Raceline Lowered Sump Lightened Fly Wheel - Clutch Custom Made Aluminium Hoses BGH Type 9 (2.8 Sporting Close Ratios) Freelander Diff with Quaife ATB Internals (Final Drive 4.1) Ford Mexico Quick Rack (2.2 Turns Lock to Lock) Cat Motorsport Front Callipers - Hi-Spec Rear Callipers Alloy Hubs and chrome uprights AVO Shock Front and Rear Front and Rear Anti Roll Bars Suspension professionally set up by Mansel Motorsport 15" OZ Supperleggera Wheels (Lightest 15" Alloys without going down the special material / magnesium route) x 5 shed with 195x50x15 Toyo Proxes T1R Solid State Fuel Pump which feeds a swirl pot and high-pressure system (Saves you fuel starvation when cornering fast). Aluminium Catch Tank (Saves you dropping any oil in the track) Contoured Dash -With Custom Made Smiths Dials Westfield Seats with Starburst Design (I’d not seen that design before) 4 Point Racing Harness for Driver & Passenger 5 3/4 Chrome Front Lights Rear LED lighting into the Carbon Effect Housing Lightweight Odyssey PC680 Gel Battery Removable Steering wheel & Boss RAC Roll Bar Soft Bits 4 Sevens Half Hood with both “Easy In” Modifications for both Driver and Passenger. Walker St Clair Rain Cover Full Tonneua Cover & 2 Doors (Never been fitted) Yes, the car is quick as just under 200 BHP and weighs in at just over 500 KG. It will manage over 60 MPH in 2nd gear, which means its even better off the lights. With a theoretical top speed of 137 MPH. The car has only done 6043 miles ( I will confirm the exact figures in the morning ). I will put a new 12 months MOT on the car for the purchaser. I'm looking for £13,750 OVNO for the car but that does not include the number plate. This is my private registration ( WE51STE ) although that could be purchased separately if the price is right. The car is in Tamworth, Staffordshire. Please contact me ( Steve ) via the forum or on my mobile 0780 1055 7171 point

Andrew has a pre-planned pass out for this coming Saturday and, after all the support he has given the club by coming out over the winter, it is the least that I can do to put a run out on. NOW ON SUNDAY DUE TO STORM HANNAH Meet at Sainsburys, Matlock, DE4 3SP at 10.30am for a scoot around the Peak District. I have seen my favourite gal today and booked us in for a car display and lunch at 12.00, all of 4 miles away, so needless to say I will be a bit inventive with the route. Presuming that we have half decent weather who is joining us?1 point

Just re-joined after a two year absence. I sold my V8 Westie to buy a house and miss it terribly. It had a new MOT yesterday so I know somebody somewhere is still enjoying it (not that im stalking it). I'm looking to buy another Westie (or seven esque car). I am looking at a Red Top engined car on carbs this weekend, which looks pretty clean. I have also been offered an old Dax, which is very tired looking, but half the price. I'm not wanting a project though and want something I can enjoy immediately and then maybe fettle over winter. I have also considered the Zetec, but good ones dont hang about for long. I've read a few horror stories about the Duratec so am a bit undecided on these. Decided against another V8 as I want something a bit more nimble this time. I am hoping on around 200hp which should balance reliability and performance. I ride bikes and believe bike engines are best suited for bikes. I'm a V-Twin man so not a fan of screaming engines. I was enormously spoilt with my previous Westie and quality is more important than quantity. I have budgeted up to £12k as being a property owner now I have to be relatively sensible. It has a good sized garage though, just needs a Westie in it. Any thoughts on Red Top engines are welcome, I was a huge fan of these in my boy racer days but never got round to ever owning one. Cheers, Stu1 point

Push in 3.92 diff with AP Suretrac torque biasing LSD. New bearings and seals fitted and set up by Windy. It has M12 helicoils to ease fitting and removal. Looks like the case might have had a repair to the top rail at some stage (before I had it) and one of the webs underneath has been relieved a bit for clearance in my previous car. Windy gave it a clean bill of health so neither of these are going to cause you any issues. £350 plus postage.1 point

The spec says it can switch 4A, which isn't enough for any fan or pump that I can think of - did you have it triggering a relay for the main load, Q? I can't tell where the damaged trace on the right hand side was headed, or if that has survived, either...1 point

Ditto the M135i. The only problem was the first proper snow day that I had, I spent the entire day powersliding round the local backroads at about 20mph. I did have great fun, but might have had to buy a new set of rear tyres at the end of the day... One bit of advice Dave - if you're going to be changing wheels twice a year, get rid of the locking wheel nuts. I broke several until I got bored and ditched them. It was ok when I did them up carefully, but every garage would put them back on with an air gun, and I'd break them or the adapter trying to get them off. At one point I had to drive to the local dealer with winter tyres on the left side of the car, and summers on the right, having broken the adapter half way through.1 point

Mounting such a device w/o heatsink is naughty as it's clearly been getting hot for a while judging by the PCB, and soldering direct to the tab is very, very naughty indeed! Definitely one for the rogues' gallery. If I were you, I'd be investigating alternative suppliers.1 point

I'd be mounting the replacement MOSFET on a heat sink remotely to prevent recurence. You'll probably need an isolating pad under the body of the device as it will probably be at 12V. The ones below are for my indicators, rear fog and indicator still on buzzer. The pad is the brown coloured item under each MOSFET. These are P channel MOSFET's part number IRF9Z34NPBF.(https://uk.farnell.com/infineon/irf9z34npbf/mosfet-p-55v-17a-to-220/dp/8648689?scope=partnumberlookahead&ost=IRF9Z34NPBF&searchref=searchlookahead&exaMfpn=true&ddkey=https%3Aen-GB%2FElement14_United_Kingdom%2Fw%2Fsearch) you could try this heatsink: https://uk.farnell.com/aavid-thermalloy/tv1500/heat-sink-to-220-218-14-c-w/dp/179934?ost=179934&ddkey=https%3Aen-GB%2FElement14_United_Kingdom%2Fsearch Isolator pad: https://uk.farnell.com/multicomp/mk3306-s/insulating-kit-to-220/dp/522636?MER=sy-me-pd-mi-acce Mounting bolt: https://uk.farnell.com/multicomp/mk3311/fixing-kit-nutbolt/dp/520160?MER=bn_level5_5NP_EngagementRecSingleItem_21 point

Might be worth pushing your budget for this one, Duratec on Jenveys, BGH box, Quaife ATB, light flywheel, lightweight wheels. All the right bits to have!1 point

Spent a great hour or so at the controls of a pals Flexwing yesterday. I've been a back seat passenger a few times but had always itched to get in the front with my hands on the control bar. I was a bit wobbly for the first half of the flight, but gradually got better. GoPro camera and Vbox data overlayed. My son edited the vid, so not my choice of music but I think it goes well.. better than a twin at a constant 4000rpm.1 point

Matt Monroe is perfect for this video, brings back memories of my childhood when my grannie used to take me on days trips from Darlington to either Redcar or Saltburn.1 point

I'll just read this post Chris and stick my fingers in my ears and say la la la to the rest. I love the experience. It's a bit like comparing a tin top to a Westy.. Flexwing is definitely the Westy of aviation. Have been in gliders, small planes etc, I don't intend to do it every day, just now and again.. hopefully beat the odds of anything unfortunate happening. Don't think hurtling around race tracks in a plastic bath tub is entirely without risks either.1 point

2 offers so far, but both from people who haven't seen the car, just offering what they think they can afford rather than what they think the car is worth. So still on the market. I've just been out for a quick spin about 5 miles, just long enough to get the engine warm and recharge the battery a bit and circulate the oils in the engine gearbox and axle. Unfortunately the people who have sounded as if they may be good potential buyers are all a long way from me so haven't been to see the car. I am sure that if a serious enquirer came and saw the car and had a ride in it they would be "sold" on it as the way it accelerates and goes round corners is extraordinary considering the relatively small engine and simple suspension with ordinary road tyres.1 point

Fantastic weather for the meet (I am a little pink now!) A massive turnout of cars. Good to see David again and a welcome to Dave from Weston Super Mare - hopefully your new car will be with you soon! And we got to see Jim with his yellow Westfield that you may have seen competing at Wiscombe. He should be at Wiscombe next weekend as well. Dave1 point

I went for auto, very impressed with it inc. the flappy paddle on stearing wheel. Majority available were auto anyway.1 point

Just the 2 of us made the early morning start and arrived at Malton just gone 8, where it was already packed with all sorts of cars from the usual super cars to themore normal, Volvos and Fiesta populars, not too many kits. Sausage sandwich went down well. Took the scenic way home with traffic heading for the coast building up. A coffee stop at Squires cafe, where we parked well away from all the bikes. A cold start with flying jacket, hat and gloves soon giving way to a tee shirt on the way home.1 point
