Had an epic trip here with 27 kits starting from Chester. As it was a charity run, the owners didn't charge us the entrance fee and kindly let us drive through the village in groups of 3. Some great roads driven on the way there! Some strange goings on! Lovely location I spy @bioman The only Bagpuss in the village? @CosKev's Chaffeur Virtually straight pipes on both sides- great noise!6 points

Charlotte... Thanks for expressing those sentiments. I can assure everyone that the SSOT are actively investigating the events of the Eligibility check as well as other issues including the correct interpretation of the Cat requirements as specified in the Blue Book.Several of the SSOT were at the Anglesey event. It will also be useful to understand what triggered this check and why it involved 2 classes that contained Westfields ( and 1 Caterham ). Only cars manufactured after 31/12/1999 were checked for compliance. We are also looking at whether the need to fit a CAT applies purely to Road Going cars and Not those running in Mod Prods running on slicks ( or list 1C tyres) and are never used on the road. We have already made our concerns known to LDMC verbally and will be contacting them in writing to move matters forward.. Once we have more facts and have looked at the interpretation of the rule it is likely that we will be contacting Motorsport UK to clarify our understanding of the requirement for a CAT to be fitted and which Westfield car it should affect. As soon as the issue is resolved we will inform everyone of the outcome.5 points

I lived on Silverstone cct. for few years in the 50’s & 60’s in the house next to what was Abbey Curve, it’s still there. Dad was a farmer on the cct. area so I had free access to all the race meetings. I was between 5 and 10 and knew all the top drivers of the era. Dad made a few quid towing the race team trucks out of the muddy paddock at the end of the meets and myself and the boy next door collected beer bottles for the deposits, 1p a pint bottle and 2p a quart bottle. My first trackdays were on a tricycle, bike, roller skates and dads tractor. The last time was in dads Ford Consul mk1.which must have been about 1962, doubt if any of you have been round the Grand Prix cct. Before me. I been a keen driver and car tinkerer (and tractor) ever since then.4 points

Personally I have always found sprinting to be a friendly, welcoming place, and a great way to test yourself and your car. We as a family have never encountered any issues that weren't easily shrugged off or resolved with the help of our racing community, and one poor experience should not put anybody off. I'm sure both the SSOT and Longton will do everything they can to ensure this doesn't happen again in future, and we need to trust and support them in that. Unfortunately, a rule is a rule, and if they choose to investigate it fully, there is not much the Clerk of the Course can do. @Archibald Meatpants Please don't allow this one unfriendly character encountered by @maurici over the weekend to influence the impression of a community that is overwhelmingly friendly, welcoming and supportive of anyone who choses to join it.4 points

The online version of the Stoneleigh show guide is available to view - and last year’s WSCC bonnets off display is the front cover photo, so well done to the team for coming up with that idea last year. (Do bear in mind the show guides are notoriously unreliable and companies in the guide on occasion don’t show up, or companies sign up to exhibit after the guide is printed.)3 points

Ouch, sorry to hear that @RallyVW , don't mention to the dentist that you have joined a club that eats lots of sugary snacks, maybe not the best thing for teeth Us with lots of calcium phosphate still in our mouths met at Matlock and did the rather funny looking Westfield dance at the back of our cars, well that's what it looks like anyway. We took a spectacular route over the tops, all on B roads and away from main stream traffic, the views were good and the weather just got brighter as we headed West. We arrived at The Rudyard Hotel and one took one's lunch in the Ballroom. It was all a bit posher than we are used too but at 8.45 for a carvery you can't go wrong. The Rudyard Hotel Rudyard Lake After lunch we needed some teeth destroying sugar and those twisty's were waiting for us, so off we set up and over on a slightly different route back which included our favourite Crowdecote road. The MX5 club had the same idea and we joined the back of a convoy of 15 (I think that is how many Sue said she counted) of them. Glen said to me 'well that answers your question Julie - I wonder what the MX5 club get up to' It also reminded me why I drive a Westfield as the journey was a little tame, shall we say. We turned off at the next junction and resumed some proper motion in order to arrive at our cake stop in the Stone Centre, Wirksworth. Blimey, it was humidly warm so we sat outside and ate cake whilst looking at our cars, bliss. The panorama dance was soon employed by the dafter ones in the crowd, says she who delights in it! Chris, Mo, Andrew and us avoided a potentially busy Matlock Bath and headed home through Chatsworth Park where we saw a herd of deer. Martyn, Sue and Trevor took the Ca**ington route back, which I am sure looked lovely now the sun had come out. The Stone Centre It has been yet another successful day, with terrific driving roads, yummy food and just the best company you can wish for. Thank you tonnes to everyone for making the effort and travelling such a long way to join us, I hope you have all enjoyed it too3 points

On behalf of the `SSOT I have decided to Lock this topic until we have more information for competitors. We understand the frustrations etc and are actively trying to resolve the issues with both LDMC as well as Motorsport UK. Rest assured that we are on the case to clear up this issue as a matter of urgency2 points

Hi! I'm thinking about starting a Norfolk/Suffolk Westfield Owners branch of the owners club and I would like to see how many would be interested in a monthly meet, breakfast mornings, track days, days out, shows etc... So if you're interested can you let me know and I'll get a venue sorted and a date for the first get together! Thanks Alan1 point

I'll watch this post and be very interested in the outcome. If this is upheld I won't be out this year as planned as the car we were planning on using may not meet the required spec, so no WSCC, LDMC sprints for me as planned. I'll hang off before I waste my money renewing my licence. What a shame, and a disappointing start to the year. Rich1 point

It sits at good pressure one minute then either rises or drops at the same engine speed even at idle, wondering possible earth fault as i noticed when i switched off the lights yesterday the speedo raised to 140mph then back to 0!1 point

Hi Maurici, I feel for you, our sport is not cheap and we expect better from event organisers and the officials that they use. Particularly the roles that are sanctioned by Motorsport UK. There is a Motorsport UK appeals process but, like all things Motorsport UK a £120-£260 fee is required, which at our level means nobody is going to appeal! Personally I would be writing a factual letter to the Organising Club, copying in the Clerk of the Course and Chief Scrutineer and also send a copy to Motorsport UK. Motorsports UK do have a complaints process (free) that you could use......clicky1 point

I was definitely compilant now reading the regulations as the Blue book, perfectly states YEAR of manufacturing, not of registration. Oh my good. I'm really burning in rage right now. I'm exactly in the same condition than @Terry Everall - WSCC Competition Secretary car. I really want the club's support right now. I'm not on time to officially appeal and all the damage is done, but I want something back. Is absolutely unnaceoptable that the people who are meant to know the inners and outs of the blue book are unable to take such a important decisiont without gathering all the possible data. they should not be running any event given how huge impact their mistakes can have against a competitor1 point

Looking forward to this one. Car is finally just about ready from the latest round of upgrades. Got a new ignition barrel and starter motor fitted for (hopefully) more reliable starting, new led lights all round, a new taller roll bar with back stays, and my new long range fuel tank. Just need to finish making the boot and cover fit round the roll bar back stays and I'm ready for the summer!1 point

Marto, it's all about the chassis age (as far as the MSA is concerned). Yours is 1996 so you don't need a cat. Mine is 2002 so I do, even though my car was originally built and SVAd with a crossflow and has an age related plate (P reg- 1975, because I had enough of the donor car in the build at the time). It didn't have a cat when built and doesn't need one for the MOT, but if I was still running the crossflow I would still need a cat, according to the MSA.1 point

And more importantly, the oil pickup pipe! OP, do you have a catch tank? When unsure of engine spec / modifications like this, a good way is to overfill by half a litre or so, if there's too much oil it'll end up in the catch tank and then you'll find the 'correct' level.1 point

My father taught me how to ride a motorcycle when I was 13, I rode a bike all year round until about 15 years ago when following a slide down a wet road on my knees my family bought me driving lessons for Christmas... So I was over 50 when I passed my test, my first car was an Alfa Romeo Spider which I adored... it was followed by a variety of cars but I always had a love of Alfas. Makes me smile that I had trouble getting insured for my Spider, Saga and Sheila's wheels.. not interested! Almost 4 years ago the Alfa Romeo I loved was hit by a KTM Superduke doing 120 mph, head on. The ensuing fire ended the life of the biker at the scene and my husband 3 days later. I inherited his Westfield and although it was built by him on a shoestring almost 20 years ago I am so proud to drive it and drive it I do - constantly.1 point

Well. Just got home at 12.30 P.M. On sunday of what was meant to be the first weekend of my sprinting season after a year without competing. This is a post to highlight how roten and how little common sense is applied by several people on this sport, but if you are a member of SSOT and you are reading this lines, don't worry, this wont be one of my inflamatory posts moaning and swearing. I've been asked to write this in a MP to the SSOT, but, I really think It must be public, so I've done my best effort on being objective and descriptive. The weekend started bad, very bad, on friday where we was allowed to scrutinie our cars.It was a good Idea to do so and take it out of the way. The day was typical miserable Anglesey weather, with rain and wind. I went to the scrutiniering bay and queued under the rain getting soaked for an hour while the scrutinier decied to accept to take a radikal in admision without logbook and arranged to have it made in-situ while the others were waiting in the queue, under rain cold and wind. When this individual, finished with the loog book, told to all the cars in the queue that he was tired and he would not accept any other car. That was 17.50 P.M. The scrutiniering times were till 18.30 P.M. Fair enough he didn't wanted to scrutinie our cars, but was absolutely unnecesary to have us waiting for an hour under the rain, and even more unnecesary to laught in our faces when all the 4 cars there waiting told him “c'mon, only 4 cars and we have been soaked under the rain for an hour”... This same undesirable individual, laught in my face again on saturday morning when I went to scrutinie my car, asking me if I was still soaked after yesterdays wait. Poor taste, and a clear view of a person that shouldn't be allowed to share space with normal people. After the 4th saturday timed run, I decieded to call it a day. I was first in class, and I wasn't going any faster, and I was reasonably happy with the points scored in the speed series, so I went with my dad walking to rocket corner to see the last timed run from there. When we walked back, Gavin, Longton's secretary came to tell me to go to the scrutiniering bay as I was requested by the scrutinier team. When I arrived there, I found myself and another 5 westfields under re-check for not having catalytic converters in the car. I have to say, that everyone will know their circumstances, but in my case, being road-going and Q-plate, and enforced by both championship rules to bring the car in the exact same condition that it wen trough the MOT, I was pretty convinced that my car didn't need it. Apparently does. In summary, we were all of us excluded from the event and banned to take part in next day event. The same undesirable individual who had been behaving not very well during the whole weekend, was extremely rude, unpolite, and refused to even debate the rules. He was too busy issuing us non compliance sheets with his best sarcastic smail and with a feel of satisfaction while f***** 5 amateur drivers and making them waste a lot of money for all the wasted weekend. The clerck of the course, surprisingly, was the one who took the decision to exclude us, and supported this individual position. A clerck of a club (whitch I'm a paid member) that is alive because there is amateur drivers competing with them, and other clubs (like wesfield one) attending to their meetings... so witch hunting amateur competitors of a whole “friend” club, doens't looks like the best practice. The rule of the catalityc converters is been there for ages, and is been not enforced, because is not realistic, and technically speaking you can't fit them to any engine. Is not a safety issue and should be prossecuted ONLY if another competitor claims against your car. And that, from my experience in club motorsports, rarely happens. If they wanted to start to police it, or enforce it, they shold have had to issue a warning beforehand to avoid competitors with cars that had been compilant for 10 years to waste over a grand preparing the weekend. (as for example happened with the warning of the f***** lithium batterys). And the should had to do a sample of the WHOLE PADOCK. I did walk a bit this morning, and I could count from a single pass, about 15 cars post 1999 without catalytic converters. Is another stupid rule, like the one of the size of the headlamps (just to quote one), that if you apply it with severty, half of the grid would be excluded. What happens now? Well. This is my goodbie to the competition world. At least the MSA world, and my return to trackdays. There will be two clubs without me as a customer due this incident, and a license less in the MSA, so they are losing it, not me. For you to understand my point, I'm not an sprinter, and I don't praticularly enjoy sprinting itself. I like track time, and I like competition, and sprinting is the only way of competition I can afford, so NO, I'm not sprinting anymore and not giving longton or MSA a single penny ever else. After wasting over a grand in one weekend, I think I had enough. They lose a customer (and maybe other 4), they will look terrible to the public, More issues will arise now... its been a terribly poor move from all of them. Who wins? Unfortunately nobody aside of the undesirable scrutinier who enjoyed the whole story like if he was wining the lottery. Shame and poor management from all of them this weekend. Those are the facts, from my point of view, and I've tried my best to be as objective and near to the real truth as I possibly can. Regards. Maurici Revilla-Vazquez. Msa National B license Holder. Longton And District M.C. Member. WSCC member and Speed series competitor.0 points

Then EVEN worst. My chasis is a from 1998... then are you telling me that appart of all, they excluded me with no grounds. Honestly, reading this, I really want to cry right now. As i said to Terry, I don't even want to know the outcome because is going to hurt me even more to know there was no grounds at all to exclude me. Oh my good. What a huge ammount of muppets.0 points

Looks like you all had a fantastic time. The relief from the pain was immediate once the nuaughty tooth that doesn’t like sugar was out. Won’t be telling the dentist though Julie that I’ll be out for more sugary outings Glad my Mazda powered Westy lacks the standard MX5 body and is shed in orange fibreglass instead. Sadly my next outing in Kiki the Westy is for my Dads funeral on Friday who sadly lost his battle with cancer on Wednesday the 27th March. He was my hero and the main reason we bought the Westy so soon as life it appears can be all too short0 points
