  2. Normally any car will deteriorate with age, that's fact 1. However a car that's meticulously looked after, cleaned, serviced and pampered will not suffer as much as one that's neglected: that's fact 2. Kit cars seem in general to be well looked after so you can't usually show a direct link between age and condition. Have a very good look in all the hard to look places, chassis rails, underneath suspension components etc etc before you part with your cash. Most things on a Westfield can be replaced or repaired, but you need a decent chassis to hold things together. I certainly wouldn't let age put me off a car, even tatty bodywork can be sorted, just make sure everything underneath looks sound and straight.

  3. Like anything as Craig says , cars do age. Fatigue can set in for certain parts. Some chassis had issues with diffs breaking free . Crazing on bodywork can be expensive to repair , as with any fibre glass cars can. Lots of people can get blown away with power outputs and blingy bits that blinker you away from the important bits like the chassis. Powder coating disintegrates with time and the tin worm weedles its way in there. Alloy panels can hide corrosion between the rails they are riveted too. The list goes on. Dont let it put you off though and if you need assistance with looking at cars, then your first point of call is an area meet to speak to others and get 'on the scene' . Take a pax drive with willing members and maybe rope a member or two in for looking a car over. They are usually easily lead , with food and beer. It would be worth its weight in gold to do this. I have seen 'immaculate' cars for sale and call me fussy, they are not. But everyone has their assumptions and what someone calls immaculate, in their eyes is. I maybe a 'little' fussy though

  5. Goody, goody, I am messing about with routes and I am proposing change of plan. Matt and Andrew are travelling a fair distance and Martyn and Sue are not exactly on the doorstep, so how about we go for a bite to eat first, at a new place only 5 miles away from Sainsburys? So still meet at Sainsburys, but just use it to gather everyone together and go for eats. I could book a table for 9 people at 11.15, that includes for Michael and Marie too. Then with full tums we can have a scenic drive and land back at a place only 2 miles out of Matlock for some cake.

  6. Maybe I'll have to get some driving lessons then. Been having a look around it today. The battery that came with it either isn't any good but it's not charging either so looks like I need a new secondhand alternator. But everything seems to work mechanically. The cooling fan kicks in and goes off. So so far so good.

  8. It's a different brand from mine so I would not have any information on their customer service, but they look to be good cameras from a definition point of view and the reviews are generally positive. It looks as if you can add cameras (it is an eight channel NVR) which could be handy, and it also means that you can get spare or replacement cameras too. I don't think Annke's system that I have offers this. The price at >£490 is higher than the total of c.£330 that I paid (hard drive separate in my case) but that may be exchange rate effects in part. Amazon's replacement/return service is good in my experience so if you were to buy it I would set it up temporarily on a bench first to evaluate it before making it 'shop soiled' as it were. Suppliers of 'proper' CCTV systems such as CCTV42 will poo-poo turnkey systems like these as 'one-size fits all' that does nothing properly. They say that lens length is more important than pixel counts where ID of suspects is concerned and this is true, but it comes at a cost. These off the shelf systems seem to always have wide angle lenses and cheaper systems can struggle to read number plates or ID people at a distance. The still frame below shows that plates are legible on a 1080p (claimed) camera at a reasonable distance (est.. 20 m)

  11. Just thought I would go on to the DVLA to see how to register and costs etc. Here is the reply below. Lee Thank you for showing interest in our trailer registration service. At this stage, we are only looking to on board trailers being registered for commercial use. Trailers not being used commercially can still be registered (criteria outlined below) but not at this stage, you will be able to do this in the very near future. All Commercial trailers weighing over 750kg in gross weight and non-commercial trailers weighing over 3500kg in gross weight when travelling internationally will need to be registered. This means that these trailers making these journeys will need to: Be registered with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) Display their own registration plate (separate from the vehicle towing them) Be able to present the UK trailer registration certificate (VTRC) to a foreign authority on request Trailers solely used in the UK do not need to be registered. More information about when you should be able to register should be available on Gov.uk over the coming weeks.

  12. Looks great. Ideal base and if it goes wrong, you could sell the wheels and weigh it in for more money.

  14. Ponderosa suits me. The cafe was closed after fears that a storm had dislodged gutters and roof tiles, and they didn't want anyone to suffer brain injuries from falling debris. Then they realised it's in Wales, so who could tell the difference. Also, the valentine's day celebration has been cancelled after the local farmer took his sheep home.
