  1. As I have found the process of swapping my engine quite challenging, I decided that now was the time to put a plan together to bring the saga to a conclusion and thought I would share it, in case anyone else found it useful!

  9. ....plus the heated seats, plus the blanket, plus Dave has scuppered Glens plans of swapping cars, if he gets cold on my unheated seats . Dave - you need to turn RIGHT immediately after The Cavendish Hotel, car park is on your right Andrew - you need to turn LEFT just after The Wheatsheaf, past the Devonshire Arms and the car park is on the left Use your sat nav at your own peril and take your fingers out of your ears, I am talking to you See you in the morning guys, looking forward to it

  13. Just fixed that for you! Andrew has very kindly offered me the copilots seat, so impossible to refuse. (I’m even making V8 noises as I type, disturbing, really. ) So I’ll be there, add me to the reservation, please. Dave

  14. Sorry @Matthew Haynes not been on here since the santa run before Christmas! A passenger seat is not required for an MOT so removing loose cushions/seats is easiest. Also any seat belt fitted where there is no corresponding seat is not subject to inspection. An advisory may be recorded though.

  17. Because two of us share the Westy on track days and my friend has a busier diary we have to book a long way ahead.. I would like to do do more days with other Westy owners but it is hard to get commitment a long way ahead from everyone, understandably.. but maybe if there was sufficient group interest we could get a beneficial rate.. and that would be a halfway step?

  18. We must be absolutely bonkers. I’m working inside today and have cold hands and feet. That is with the underfloor heating on and the stove lit! Keep on telling myself that it’s obviously because I’ve the wrong clothes on. Tomorrow I’ll try and have the right clothes - just call me two coat Andrew! Plus thermals. Plus Biggles hat. Plus gloves ......

  19. That's a poor choice of words Adam. I get a lot of satisfaction hustling the old school Pinto around tracks, but If it goes bang, I think I'll be heading down the Duratec route.

  20. My flowchart a few years back went.. I'm going to swap the Pinto for a Fireblade.. started buying stuff.. found a exhaust manifold, bought it.. looked at an engine mount frame.. then had a passenger ride in a Megablade .. was seriously under whelmed! … …. decided to squeeze some more power from the Pinto. Tbf it was a carbed Blade car I rode in.. 125bhp maybe? two up..

  21. If I ever blow the four pot, it’s a serious temptation - it’s already the wide tunnel chassis (T5 sized, as used on some SEiGHTs).

  23. Mine to add is ' Does the engine fit on the gearbox ?' NO or YES ( you can pick either!) Then spend a week with a busted back from trying to make it fit

  24. There's also a 10% off offer on MSV days .. expires 6th Jan. Tbh, I wouldn't bother with the book early offers, much better to go for a group discount. Hmmm..

  26. Cost has always been an issue 26 years ago @ 17 my insurance via the least reputable cheapest possible 3rd party was 400 on a £300 mini. My first word according to my mother was tractor. We had lorries, a tractor, digger and a forklift at home and I loved driving them all at any opertunity. Also any opertunity to weld, grind, or do any thing mechanical was a highlight. 13 I got my hands on a step through Suzuki 80, which was driven as often as possible for hours... my father never had any petrol for the chain saw ever again... My kids don’t have the motor opertunities as me but also are uninterested. iPads, Nintendo, phones, fortnite, minecraft... etc are way more exciting for a instant kick. Having a car was massively important for me and it was where my social life started. They are in constant contact with their mates and their phones are pinging all the time. I lived 3 miles out of town and most of my mates where 6 miles the other side so wheels where important. Before passing my test I’d converted £50 broken automatic mini to manual and rebuilt the engine. Being a mini it demanded constant fettle. Front drumsneeded adjusting weakly, grease nipples, rust, regular points , condencers, tune ups, all part of life. I loved that car... I learned so much.. far more than watching YouTube or playing a computer games.
