  1. It will take ages but the prep is the most important thing. When you have sanded all the rocker cover down with 2000 grit paper then you can start polishing. This took me 1 hour but needs more time on it and the sides doing

  3. Westfield XI for Sale It is with some reluctance and sadness that I have come to the conclusion that I need to offer this well known car for sale. The car has been on show at the last 2 Westfield speed weekends at Blyton Park, and was on display in the WSCC marque at the 2018 National Kitcar Show at Stoneleigh. This is probably just about the best spec.'d Westfield XI in the Country, and just about every part of the car was either new or professionally reconditioned at the time of its construction. It was first registered in July of 2017, and has covered just 1104 miles since being registered. This is a rare opportunity to purchase an XI which is built to a standard which should enable reliable fun motoring, and is fast enough and with road holding capable of performing well on trackdays. The body is the standard Westfield body kit, with Le Mans driver's head fairing, in Westfield racing green, with crimson carpets, dash, seats and driver's head rest. The bodywork has been professionally machine polished. The dashboard is populated by a matched set of MG Midget instruments, all professionally reconditioned, comprising fuel gauge, combined oil pressure/water temperature gauge, rev. counter, and speedometer fitted (and calibrated) with an MGB dial so that it reads to 120mph, rather than the 100mph of a standard Midget speedo. The car has a factory optional tonneau cover fitted. Suspension incorporates the optional factory anti-rollbar kit, along with softer springs and Protech alloy bodied dampers which have been extended by approx. 20mm. to give better suspension compliance compared to the standard factory setup. Braking is by discs all round, using the optional Hi-Spec brake upgrade, with 4-pot calipers at the front. The engine started life as a 1275cc. Midget A series engine, but was totally rebuilt and upgraded by Peter May of Peter May Engineering so that it has an estimated power output at the flywheel of 110 bhp. from 1330cc., and revs happily to 7,000rpm, although the engine internals are safe to at least 7,500rpm, however the camshaft spec. is such that there is no advantage in performance by exceeding 7.000. Full details of the engine build spec with supporting documentation will be supplied to any serious enquirers, suffice to say that with all ancillaries (new alternator, starter motor, Ford 7.5” rally clutch, Aldon electronic distributor mapped to match the camshaft fitted, new 45 DCOE Weber carburettor and manifold, special shallow sump) the engine build cost was £6,435. The exhaust manifold is the factory supplied fabricated 3 branch manifold, but ceramic coated inside and out. Stainless silencer is a one-off, supplied and fitted by Custom Chrome. The gearbox is a Ford type 9 'box, giving 5 forward gears, fully rebuilt by Steve Perks of SPC, with uprated bottom gear to make it more usable, So this is an SPC Tracsport 'box. The back axle is an Midget axle, fitted with Peter May competition half shafts. The differential was rebuilt by Peter May and the crown wheel and pinion is the higher of the available Midget ratios. These cars are notoriously difficult to value as there are so few changing hands at any one time, so I'm open to offers, but my starting point is £22,000 which represents only about 80% of the cost of building the car to this spec., and standard, and with no allowance for my labour. The purchaser will receive a complete file of invoices for components used in the build, the original factory build manual in clean condition supplemented by a printed and bound copy of my WSCC boardroom build thread, along with a Haynes Sprite/Midget workshop manual and a Moss Europe Sprite/Midget catalogue.

  6. I have solid lifters and the new SBD ones shouldn't require any ahead modifications. I did mention the QED to them and they said he results should be the same, its just that their cam is a newer profile and had some advantages... Price was roughly the same so though I would stick with SBD.. Thanks again for the advice...

  7. Well had a long chat with SBD today I have their Tapered 48s to 46mm ITB's , inlet manifold, clutch etc so I decided to opt for their cams. With my setup I should reach a genuine 260, which is enough. If I went for the wilder cams than I would need new springs etc and the price jumped.. 280 would be nice but then the gearbox would **** itself.. I asked about the size of the ITB's in terms of power and they have seen over 290 genuine bhp with them so clearly size isn't that important....

  9. Hi everyone, first post so here goes. Back in the late sixties me and a mate were Mini owners with the obligatory go faster black and white checker tape and a Union Jack. We would often go to Castle Combe to watch the Minis racing, Richard Cooper would be there and also the Lotus Sevens which we would dribble over and dream of ownership one day. Then along came the ladies followed by the kids and all the Lotus dreams went on the back burner, until now. Being in the throws of retirement (67) and looking for something to occupy my days I decided to look at Caterhams and was all set to buy one when a client of mine said he had a Westy in the garage collecting dust if I wanted to have a look, well I did, said Westy was built in 2010 and had 1107 on the clock (not a typo) , It's a SEIW powered by a 2L Duratec, he also has another one, the same but supercharged which he uses for track days. Being able to see through the dust and the grime I could see tremendous potential. Every year it was tested and serviced for the just in case days which rarely come along, so I've bought it and picked it up on Dec 1. The first thing I did was to drive to my trusted mechanic (in the rain) to give it the once over apart from new exhaust manifold gasket and replacing all the perished rubber hoses from the fuel tank he gave it a clean bill of health and considered it a steal. As I am not going to be a sunny day driver it have to have the creature comforts which are perfect and we have managed to put 250 miles on the clock, the response from straightening the right foot is fabulous and it is such a joy (will have to get some silicone around the bottom of the screen though) the best thing of all is that my wife enjoys being a passenger and driving it almost as much as me so it's happy days all round. I live in GL5 if there is any like minded owners close by. Hopefully I will cross paths with some of you during the coming months and will join my local branch in January.

  13. Easy to say if your someone or a company not depending on free trade with Europe or your job isnt controlled and regulated by a European wide regulatory body which we are about to fall out of. My work license is about to become as worthless as the a4 sheet of paper it's typed on. This country wants to control and govern itself. Yet sadly a vast number of the people elected to do so are not capable of running a p*** up in a brewery.

If we leave with no deal that's not "crashing out", it's pretty much what we want which is NO control of our borders, economy, laws or trade choices coming from the un-elected, corrupt money grabbing mandarins of the EU. Besides, "crashing out" means going to sleep. It's high time project fear went to bed to sleep it off...

If you are in GL5, the Cotswolds area is the local one to you. @Tom (T3OMF) - Cotswolds AO Tom Frankland is the Area Organiser if you wanted to know any more, but we meet on the last Thursday of every month at The Golden Heart at Nettleton Bottom on the A419 and you would be very welcome. We do runs out, trips abroad, days out to car shows, track days and other things, so is a very active area to be in.

  20. Well the Supertrapp arrived and I made a bracket for it and bolts it on and all went very well. It sounds great sitting in the driveway but I'm not taking it for a drive today because the temperature is currently 15° F (-9°C) and that's just too cold for it to be any fun. I weighed the old silencer and brackets and of course did the same with the Supertrapp and the total weight loss ended up being 5.2 lbs (2.4kg). Once I've driven it and put it on the dyno and tested it I'll report back. That could be awhile as it's full on winter here but if I can pull it off soon I will. dave

  22. I've just bought a westfield supplied 6" carbon can and it comes in at 3.7 kgs. I'd say it must be a new supplier as the last one I had from them was considerably heavier (but was a 3" system vs this one being a 2.5")

For most people I fear that they are all still fixated on how they voted before and are unwilling to look at anything that is against their view as they still are convinced by the lies from both sides. Now we are where we are a situation we should never have been in and in this age of social media and the young having a very short attention span so are going with the flow rather than finding out the facts as best they can. Labour would object to whatever May has even if it was perfect and came with a gold pig for everyone free, as they sniff a chance to get comrade Corbyn in power. Some Tories see it as an opportunity to oust her and have their choice or themselves to be PM. Sturgeon does not give two hoots what happens so long as she gets independence, a result of the bitterness that has evolved she has said they will vote against it anyway. Who would be brave or stupid enough to want to be leader to sort this lot out? I keep being told that the older person should have less say in this as we will die and the young people will have to deal with what we decide. Just the same as many of us had to when others voted to join the EEC (NOT EU) all those years ago, no one said it was not fair then, we as a country got on with it and made the best we could. It saddens me that many of the young I speak with spent more time on choosing their phone than finding out what was at stake for their future before voting. As a result of this those with axes to grind have divided the country, like never before. Divided by the vote, divided by age, divided by wealth, divided by areas of the UK and the worst division between NI and Eire potentially being made worse than ever by the EU manipulating this to their own ends and the DUP who appear to be people from the dark ages who only ever appear to say no, unless there is £10 billion offered. It is not a perfect deal and was never going to be so, but eventually I feel that once we have actually left, then the grown ups will take a pragmatic approach and make it work for both the EU and the UK. We will still be shackled for some time but every journey starts with a single step, or in this case a leap but it has to start. And just imagine if we ended up with another vote? What will happen if the vote went to stay this time, would others be expected to just accept it even if it was close again?
