  1. Wow, what a fantastic turn out today, I love catching up with everyone so thank you all for coming along. It very much felt like a Westfield gathering as we had so many members come, padded out with the Burton Car Club it has been a very sociable day, brilliant. There was a distinctive lack of Zeros though, which is a shame for the factory when they put so much effort in to the open day. Meeting at McD's was Syman84 with young Archie and a very young Olivia in tow, that's what I call making it happen against the odds, so well done there. BillyPee, Santa Andrew and Elf Clare, then from the Burton CC were Michael and Martin in the Ferrari and Alan in the Cobra. We drove in a very unusual convoy of tin tops and mixed kit cars the short journey to GBS. We were soon joined by Dave and Ian in their Westfields, then Des and Debs, BugMan Steve, Barry, Rebecca and Andy, Martyn and Sue and Chris all in their tin tops. That made for 17 members of our club all in one place. The sun came out and the wind dropped making for a very pleasant day. RobinRedSpider was a complete lightweight and stayed in bed recovering from his hangover, but we shouldn't mention that should we At GBS Santa Andrew and Elf Clare Batman Santa Dave and Ian arrived Bagpuss on the bonnet Sunshine is great unless you want a photo The Germanic BBQ, these people are the most wonderful family. Dave tucked in too, they were very tasty sausages, covered in currywurst sauce and served with fresh cobs The GBS crew made us very welcome as ever, with the German Sausage man and his family filling us up from his BBQ. There was warmed red wine and German Beer on offer for non-drivers. Then it was inside for the cake moment, Rebecca was torturing herself deciding whether to have lemon or chocolate cake 'follow me' I said, we will have both and some of those mini Christmas puddings too. Next Simon lost his car keys, well in charge of 2 kiddies you sort of have a lot on your plate. 'They will be in your car', and they were, of course they were, but we won't mention that either stick to winning Novice championships Simon. The boy racer fraternity arrived on their way from Mansfield to Newcastle on a charity run, not the sort of behaviour that gives sports car drivers a good name, but wow, what pretty girlfriends they had, I am talking model good looks with figure, hair and skimpy dresses to go with it. Glen is complaining that I didn't get any photos of them but I am sure somebody did. Next I rang the windmill place to book us a table and they said they were very busy. It is a small place and very popular so you must book in advance. Not to worry, plan B was engaged and we went to the Antiques centre, which is always a winner. Martyn and Sue, Chris, Andrew and Clare in another strange convoy came with us on the short journey for lunch. 'Cos we needed lunch!!! Santa Andrew and Elf Clare, gutted that they can't make our Santa Run in 2 weeks time so they were having their own today, good on you. Good job that Glen had invited Kevin then! with his windswept hair The cafe has a lovely outdoor seating area, but it had started raining by now and we sat inside, but in the summer it will be ours The spitfire picture is for sale, it is pressed tin. (Hip flask engaged) For sale is the Flying Scotsman picture, also pressed tin The chatting and catching up of car news carried on over jam and cream scones Chris, eating Nottinghamshire Bread, well that's what he is telling Mo when he gets home (it's nearly as healthy as Yorkshire Salad (chips)) And Martyn too So there we have it, a cracking day out, the driving was pants but the company more than made up for it. It rained all the way home and it was almost dark when we got back. We are back in the Peak District, land of wonderful roads, next weekend with the Ice Cream run, see you there.

  2. Given that the calendar competition rules exclude pictures that have been t have been previously shown on here. Now the calendar has been published with the usual fantastic pictures in, I though it a shame that all other pictures that have been submitted don't get seen. Hence here's mine submitted this year. I hope others will post there's below too! (I'll apologise in advance @Chris King - Webmaster and Joint North East AO) if this starts to make your servers, creak ) May I suggest to keep file sizes to 1000 pixels wide! I’ll gladly supply full size images from mine on request via PM. Visit to the Evo triangle with @westyjord87 & @Greenstreak-Andy D September 2018 Most pics taken by me. The few of me driving were kindly taken by @Greenstreak-Andy D

  10. Why oh why are there only 12 months in the calendar year and so many wonderful photographs out there. They are great photos Ian and it's a very good idea to show them all, perhaps we can have a collage in the next magazine so members who don't use the forum can see them too.

  18. It is strange that a few people can make this happen. In the UK the banks will never be allowed to fail and people with up to £85k in any one banking group have their money protected by the government so the chances of a Northern Rock are much less than before, IMHO. What is happening is that these people who short hope to create a financial opportunity for them and do not care about the rest of the population.. It is a bit like having a grey hound that is very fast but you keep entering it in races after feeding ot so it cannot run, then you train it and get low odds, due to past performance and you clean up massively with bets everywhere as no one thinks you have a chance. Shorters do the same, create a picture that isn't true and sit back and watch. With normal shares they never reflect a true value. Look at Ted Baker or Phillip Green, both got massive negative press, both see shares slide in company, sales drop a bit then everyone forgets and back we go to buying from the people we loath. For the individual it is great for everyone else it is not, but that is the world we live in. Is there a crash coming, yes as there is a perfect storm gathering. Brexit, too many who have over extended themselves on cheap credit with PCP deals on cars etc. The signs are there, big business failures, have increased as companies in the EU ratchet up the pressure to take advantage of our pitiful position in the negotiations over Brexit at home and abroad. The trade wars Trump is starting but whatever happens we will survive as we always do. Like in the States there are "Preppers" who are stockpiling food and drugs just incase, there is a guy at work who was telling us all what he had done. When I pointed out we all know where he lives, where his stockpile is and if we are starving we will steal it from him, wasn't so smug. My advice is carry on and try not to worry at least in the UK you will get treated for malnutrition and stress if the worst happens.

  23. A short seller has to borrow some stock (shares) say from a pension company. The pension compay wants to keep the shares long term. When the short seller borrows the shares they will pay a bit to the pension company, and promise a date when the pension company will get them back. At this point the pension company is happy as they have a bit of extra cash for doing nowt. The short seller can now sell the shares to someone else. Now comes the scary bit, they have to hope that the price will drop before they have to buy them back from another source. It can fail sometimes in spectacular style. Porsche famously turned over the hedge funds by owning all the devalued VW stock. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/transport/3281537/Porsche-and-VW-share-row-how-Germany-got-revenge-on-the-hedge-fund-locusts.html
