The day kicked off well when I got asked this first thing morning if I would like to 'feel my leg' by Dave, a girly of my age does not get that opportunity very often, so I had to oblige, oooh it was hot . Honda engines are pretty good at looking after their drivers in the winter and keeping them warm, as demonstrated by Dave, he was toasty when he arrived. Bill and I were busy sharing my hot water bottle to warm our right hand, the one stuck out in the open up on the steering wheel. Anyway, down to business, more to the point down to cake, the homemade, breakfast type, here you go Bakewell tart and treacle tart Dave hot legs had his very favourite rhubarb crumble and custard (it is 10.30am) I love how flexible the WSCC members are, they eat anything at any time of the day, love it. Bill, Dave and Ian joined us at Hulme End, which is closed after today until next February. Note how lovely and clean these cars are. Bill had new air filters on and after talking to Dave he had a new set of second hand lights coming his way. Richard had a non starter and PaulVX was meeting us at The Snake Inn, so off we went. What a great route, it was quiet and the curls in the road just went on and on, knowing that we still had the Snake Pass waiting for us, I have really enjoyed the driving today. Plus it is always easier with a smaller convoy and the Honda boys behind always do things to my head, loved it. I did, however, find the big, sludgy, tractor man and possibly the grottiest bit of road in the world, I mean we even had to slow down a bit for it, tut. Bill found most of it but Ian decided to wear it Dave was doing a line in dried sludge, free to a good home if you want some That put us at The Snake Inn, which was empty when we arrived and full of hikers when we left. We enjoyed a nice lunch over some good car based chat, all next to the real fire, toasty. It's been a brill day out with great driving, chat and food, I even make it so you can all have the pleasure of washing your cars when you get home, and at least it wasn't cow derived. If there is anyone that can come out next weekend I would very much like to put a run out on, but I know a lot of cars are coming of the road as December hits. Failing that the weekend after (Sat 8th Dec) is a tin top friendly doo with a visit to the GBS (German Bratwurst Sausage, stop it, Great British Sports Cars) factory open day, so hopefully see you there.3 points

I painted my Westie this year using cellulose and as predicted, it took ages. Fortunately at the time I was working from home and so I got it done. I repaired some damage and changed the colour from some really bad yellow(s) to Ford Sunburst red and Ford Brilliant white, with gold. I took the body off as I wanted to paint the inside as well as the outside. I followed the paint guide as above using really cheap/old equipment in my drive, because I wasn't that bothered about the finish. However after many hours of colour sanding it came out OK. The bad thing about Cellulose is that it is soft, but the good thing is that it is cheap, easy to touch in and colour sand back when the inevitable scratches happen. Spraying separate panels multi-colours takes a lot of paint and consumables; I got through 30 Litres of thinners! As everyone agrees spending time flatting the panels using a guide coat is the most important step with fibreglass. When it is flat you can colour sand successfully, otherwise you will rub through the top coats. To be honest I enjoyed doing it and saved a lot of money in the process. Next time I will buy a decent gun and save a lot of time flatting down orange peel!3 points

I suppose calling them and enquiring if the post is excessive would be a decent approach to it ? I know Car Builder Solutions say to call them if you want little bits to lower the post cost.2 points

Over the years, I've found myself wanting to drill and machine lots of small bits of plastic and aluminium - particularly now that I make cases for various electronic projects, so I've treated myself to a Proxxon MF70 micro mill that I plan to convert to CNC. It's VERY small, but has a good reputation for accuracy and the conversion to stepper motor drive is well documented already. Still, thought I'd post it on here in case anyone else is doing the same...1 point

Here we go, a run out in the Peak District anyone? With everything stacked against me there is little point in posting but if you don't ask you don't get. If the weather is wet even we won't venture out. BUT if it's dry, then be assured we will be on the move, join us if you dare.1 point

Right just been on Westfield site the 2 options are silencer only or silencer, link pipe, and fitting kit the fitting kit has 2 x clamps, a rubber mount , bolt tube and bracket for the car AND the bracket that bolts to the silencer you could always call them and explain that you only require the silencer and the bracket and see if they can accommodate you hth1 point

There shouldn't really be different prices for ringing up though should there? I've done it before and yes they reduced it but in this case the discount runs out tonight. It's most definitely costing them sales from people who can't be arsed to call and query it. They'll just go elsewhere.1 point

A great day out indeed even if a bit muddy, chilly and damp. Thanks for organising @Julie Hall - AO Representative, Peak District AO1 point

Looks dead easy, Dave. There are pre-made mounting brackets for the steppers and very cheap Arduino shields for the stepper motor drivers. Add an NVR switch, an old laptop power supply and a PC fan - then it's ready to go. The Arduino code is available and just loaded, with a free G-Code sender software for the laptop. I've hooked up one motor and it seems to be working... Total conversion cost about £1201 point

Unless anyone knows for sure what happened to the occupants, probably bad taste to speculate too much... they may have friends or acquaintances in the club? If they do, be good to know if they’re OK now?1 point

Haha - no he’s quite sensible really. Plus has only just passed his test a few years back. I think it is more a case of his mate loves the car and wants it to go to a good home as it’s just not being used. My young un hadn’t really been looking for one but now quite likes the idea.1 point

yes, although the y axis is only 46mm: https://www.proxxon.com/en/micromot/27110.php I'm adding a stepper motor to each axis, but will adjust the spindle motor speed by hand1 point

Bizzarely it was way cheaper from Amazon.de (it's a German company) than anywhere else, with free Prime delivery, even though it still came from Sarl... (240Euro)1 point

@Ali and Gail had this problem last year and could probably help you out with a supplier.1 point

Indeed, a chip in my full face helmet, in the area corresponding to where my forehead would have been, with no helmet on, had me feeling quite sick the first time I saw it. At a minimum, I'd have needed stitches, but even if it hadn't knocked me out cold, I can be fairly sure I'd have been dazed enough to have struggled to keep control of the car at the time.0 points

I have always driven on the road with just a pair of sunnies or safety glasses, but won’t do it again as there is now a hole in my carbon fibre headrest on the passenger seat from a stone. Terrifying to think what could have happened!!0 points
