  4. Hi I just want to present myself - I am Eivind from Brøtsø, a tiny island in the Oslo fjord. We DO have a bridge to the mainland, hence the Westie :-) My background is in electronics, and I have owned a MX-5 that I chip-tuned myself, so I will probably dig into the Omex ECU, make some kind of digital dash with Apple CarPlay and such stuff. My SE FW kit arrives this Saturday, and there goes the free time this winter. I am really excited - I will savour the building process and make it last a loooong time! I ordered with the 150 hp Zetec, heater and full wrapping. My big hero is Pippi Longstocking, who once said something like this: "This I have never done before, so I will most certainly master it". That goes for me and this project, too. Cheers, and be ready for a lot of stupid questions.

  7. My daily is a sh*tbox Corsa 1.2! Cheap to run and fix, and negligible depreciation. Bought it for a grand, previous OAP owner, it's done under 60k, and five years later I'd probably get a grand for it! We live 7-mins from my work and the car barely gets up to temp, so no use having something flash to ruin. But never content to have a bog-standard car, I shouted it a sporty exhaust and 195/50-15's.

  8. Welcome! Car looks great, but now realise your username needs to be Buttercup2, as you're the Graham in the Geoffrey and Graham Buttercup twins

  10. Well I went to Pompeii today and had a mooch round. Bit dilapidated. Nothing that @Geoffrey (Buttercup) - North Yorkshire AO can't sort with his digger. Excuse the pasty look I have sadly been ill all this week and nearly stopped getting on he plane at Bristol while staring at it. But the thought of heading back through Bristol made me board the plane. We almost headed home today than Saturday. No idea what's up. Anyway enough sob.

  13. I have it on good authority (a member of the tyre panel) that ...... No tyres have been moved from 1C to 1B. The Avon ZZR still remains in 1C, except for the OE Caterham sizes which are in 1B, these sizes can only be used on a Caterham

I went last weekend and don’t have the pass to get out this coming weekend but defo would if I could. How about the GBS event on the 8th December? Little bit nearer!

  23. then... this doesn't changes anything as A24 ZZR super soft are NOT road-legal, and not E-marked, as is stated in the webpage... A64 compound (the only road-legal one) isn't particularly good from cold... I do know quite a lot this compound as was the tyre I was using in my VX220 and the results were quite average... To be honest, I don't want another change back... I've sorted my tyres for next year. If for any chance, A24-ZZR are back to the road going classes after having been banned and not given a roadlegal condition, will be a joke. Will alter again all the target times, will benefit to the big spenders that can just waste money for every change that the MSA decides to do... From my point of view, isn't beneficial at all. I will definitely wait till this is clear, as I won't bother to spend £150 again for the Spanish fee, then msa, then wscc... and then on tops another £600 for another set of tyres... as rules have changed, again...

  24. Thanks everyone for a great run out yesterday. The mizzle started at Eyam and by the time I was home my right arm was soaked. Well worth it though.

  26. Ooo, snap. I have an 01 x-plate 330ci sport myself, 5 sp manual, just rolled over to 158k this weekend. Got into BMW sort of by mistake, having unexpectedly written off my car I did a search for cars within 20miles and under a grand, discounted anything super boring, and ended up with a E36 316 compact. Fairly gutless due to the 1.6l but an absolute hoot to drive and with the ditch finder it came with on the rear would still do the rwd thing a treat. Roll on three years, sold the E36 on to a mate and bought the E46 as I was doing more road miles and wanted a few more creature comforts, had that three years nearly now, maintained on a pretty much 'gets all its needs' basis and as yet no plans to replace it. MPG averages 28 long term on mixed driving in 20min urban commute, but will do 38 on a motorway run if not much more. Yet to fit a towbar to is as the westfield has been off the road and I can pull in odd favours to more the trailer when I need to but other than the fitting cost I see no reason not to. I would love to fit a ATB diff to it, but while I would get the enjoyment, I just cant justify the cost for what is mainly just a cheap daily motorway machine. Daniel

  28. After a brief spell of gardening this morning I could then get back to working on the car and todays first task was to fit the steering rack. I hadn't fitted it yesterday as I'd discovered the mounts were threaded UNC rather than UNF like the rest of the bolts. I thought I'd have to order some but then by chance stumbled across a pack of bolts the right size as I was clearing up yesterday. Then the front uprights and wishbones. I'm yet to order the shocks so the steel box section is just a temporary measure to keep everything in place for now. I'd made them when working on the first car and luckily had kept hold of them. Steering wheel and steering column going in. And finally the rear trailing arms. That's about as much as I can do for now as I've run out of UNF bolts in the right size.
