So, after breaking down on the way back from Shelsey Walsh a while back, and having just been made redundant and starting a new job, I'd left the westie in the garage not daring to see what had happened... after a few wild goose chases, the distributor was found to be siezed, causing the drive to shear... sump off and gave it a good checking over....rescuing all the bits of drive in the process. Cam looked unscathed, took off the oil pump housing to ensure all good there too. poured some cheap 10-40 down through the galleries and then cleaned it all up. Sump cleaned and refitted, along with inlet manifold and carbs. Distributor rebuilt by h & h ignition....can recommend those guys btw. new alternator, coil, and ignition module too. timed at 12 btdc and dizzy lined up with no1. a few turns with the plugs out to get the oil pressure up and then plugs in and she fired up on the 3rd spin, so well chuffed. Turned the dizzy round a few degrees to find the fastest idle once warmed up and jobs a goodun.....so far. need to get the timing checked at 5000rpm but relieved so far...only time will tell though. annoyed I missed all the nice weather but other things took priority. Also a shame as there's a new AO locally who is keen as by the looks of things. looking forwards to taking it out again...either this year or next spring. Mart.1 point

I like the 7 logo. But not on a Westfield - it seems a bit “not quite right”.1 point

If its only a very slight weep I'd be tempted to try sealing the crack with an emamel paint such as the small tins of Humbrol model paint.1 point

A week today. Yippee. Who will win the trophy for the most green stuff collected.1 point

Only a few die hards this week but given the weather I'm not surprised. It was also good to meet a new member @tr3m5 for the first time. He's already busy putting his own mark on the car and fixing some niggles. Indeed Paul has and ever growing list and we welcomed him to "The money pit and bleeding hand society"1 point

Keep it (unless you desperately need the money) and buy something else with four seats and a V8 for family trips (XKR/Bentley Arnage/GTR...), or build something like an Ultima Evo. My four year old daughter loves mine (its better than Alton Towers) and we have only been up and down the driveway in it so far. She's set on using it for racing when she is 12 (apparently she'll be grown up then).1 point

Allegedly a complaint was made about snow clearing lady so the committee were forced to censor it. Perhaps it was too early for snow. If you want to see the offending snow clearing lady then send a pm. You must be over 18 and hold a full driving license. At least voluptuous green lady lying seductively on a bed in her underwear is deemed acceptable and is still there.1 point

Assuming it's the same as the Axminster one (looks it), the table clamps onto the pillar at whatever position you want height wise, and radially.1 point

So whilst sat having a beer back at the campsite, I took a punt on an "EBay cheapie" exhaust system. I had been keeping my eye on them for a few weeks anyway. It arrived today, and although the box was pretty battered, I was delighted to see it was a Direnza System, making it even more of a bargain I had already stripped the existing system a couple of days ago, so it didn't take me long to fit it tonight It has a resonator just behind the cat at the front of the system, so hopefully it will still be quiet enough to stay under noise levels on track The negative is it has added 3.7kg to the car. Hopefully it will be a bit more free flowing though and therefore release a couple more ponies to offset the weight gain! Total weight saving now is 72.85kg1 point

Rookie mistake! I thought with all the camping experience, you’d,have and a dry bag for it or bin liner, as Paul said, at least!1 point

I totally regret selling my SEW a few months ago, at my age 70 plus I felt that I needed some comfort. I bought a Z3 which is a nice car to drive but it is what its meant to be, a roadster. I miss the sheer driveability of the Westfield and the light weight which enables you to throw it around. I also miss annoying the Audi at roundabouts who drive very close behind and I can blow them away on the exit. I was seriously looking at a Striker with a bike engine on eBay but can I justify three cars?1 point

This is already the case though, for e-mopeds and e-motorbikes. E-bikes are fundamentally different in that they are electrically assisted pedal cycles of limited power and speed. Sales are increasing exponentially globally- there would be no need to add extra beaurocracy to a mildly assisted pedal cycle. Yes, you can build one that's as powerful as a small motorbike, but then it's a motorbike. If you build one that attempts to comply with the law and ride it responsibly then I can't personally see any problem.1 point
