  1. Not claiming any credit for this, but found it on one of the FaceBook threads --------------------------------------------------- Haynes Manual Terminology Translated into Common English Haynes: This is a tight fit. Translation: Clamp with molegrips then beat repeatedly with a hammer. Haynes: As described in Chapter 7... Translation: That'll teach you not to read through before you start. Now you are looking at scary photos of the inside of a gearbox. Haynes: Pry... Translation: Hammer a screwdriver into... Haynes: Undo... Translation: Go buy a tin of WD40. Haynes: Retain small spring... Translation: PINGGGG - "Jesus, where the hell did that go?" Haynes: Press and rotate to remove bulb... Translation: OK - that's the glass bit off, now fetch some good pliers to dig out the bayonet part. Haynes: Lightly... Translation: Start off lightly and build up till the veins on your forehead are throbbing then clamp with molegrips then beat repeatedly with hammer. Haynes: Weekly checks... Translation: If it isn't broken don't fix it. Haynes: Routine maintenance... Translation: If it isn't broken, it's about to be. We warned you. Haynes: One spanner rating. Translation: An infant could do this... so how did you manage to **** it up? Haynes: Two spanner rating. Translation: Now you may think that you can do this because two is a low, teensy weensy number... but you also thought the wiring diagram was a map of the Tokyo underground (in fact that would have been more use to you). Haynes: Three spanner rating. Translation: Make sure you won't need your car for a couple of days. Haynes: Four spanner rating. Translation: You're not seriously considering this are you? Haynes: Five spanner rating. Translation: OK - but don't ever carry your loved ones in it again. Haynes: If not, you can fabricate your own special tool like this... Translation: Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Haynes: Compress... Translation: Squeeze with all your might, jump up and down on it, throw it at the garage wall, then find some molegrips and a hammer... Haynes: Inspect... Translation: Squint at really hard and pretend you know what you are looking at, then declare in a loud knowing voice to your wife "Yep, as I thought, it's going to need a new one" Haynes: Carefully... Translation: You are about to suffer deep abrasions. Haynes: Retaining nut... Translation: Yes, that's it, that big spherical blob of rust. Haynes: Get an assistant... Translation: Prepare to humiliate yourself in front of someone you know. Haynes: Turning the engine will be easier with the spark plugs removed. Translation: However, starting the engine afterwards will be much harder. Once that sinking pit of your stomach feeling has subsided, you can start to feel deeply ashamed as you gingerly refit the spark plugs. Haynes: Refitting is the reverse sequence to removal. Translation: Yeah, right. But you swear in different places. Haynes: Prise away plastic locating pegs... Translation: Snap off... Haynes: Using a suitable drift... Translation: Clamp with molegrips then beat repeatedly with hammer. Haynes: Everyday toolkit Translation: RAC Card & Mobile Phone Haynes: Apply moderate heat... Translation: Unless you have a blast furnace, don't bother. Alternatively, clamp with molegrips then beat repeatedly with hammer. Haynes: Index Translation: List of all the things in the book, bar what you need to do.

  2. They are Westfield Race seats. I think Westfield still sell them but they often come up for sale. I fancied these for my build but ended up getting JKs and do not regret the decision as they are fantastically comfortable and look great!

  4. MoT time for my Z3 2.2i Sport today, and I had a brief word with the tester beforehand on the matter of the rubbish BMW hand brakes, and he agreed. Good start. Later, he comments that the rear suspension is very similar to his E36 Compact and this starts a conversation about handling and track days during which I mention my Westfield. A few minutes go by while he tries to wrench the wheels off my car, then he says "what engine has your Westfield got then?" "Pinto" says I. Turns out he's restoring a Mk2 Escort with a 2.0l Pinto, twin 40s, Maxflow head, 205 block, and FR32 cam - exactly the spec of my Pinto engine. We're firm friends by now! The upshot is a pass with no advisories which I put down completely to the magic of Westfield ownership - by proxy. Hats in the air time!

  5. Hi all I have just joined WSCC after a break of nearly 24 years and tomorrow will be picking up my Westy and looking forward to some Sunday morning runs with other members, however I am struggling to find a local meet, all the activity seems to be further north. Am I wrong???

  7. Good evening all, Having been lurking for years and a member since earlier this year, I have finally completed the circle and bought my first Westfield. Many thanks to all those that have answered my questions online or gave me 5 minutes to answer a newbie question at Stoneleigh this year, it all helped... I collected my car on Thursday and went straight on to Blyton for a Westfield Trackday Experience (booked by family before I decided to buy). After a great session on track I set off for the 200 miles home, loving the slower, scenic Fosse Way! So what did I get, I know you guys like a photo - see below.... 2012 SEiW SDV BRG with a 1.8 Zetec Black Top on Jenvey ITB and MBE ecu. It has some other nice bits under the bonnet that I am working my way through to a) Identify and b) Understand what they do - Please be patient with my What is This? Questions. i am not planning any massive upgrades soon, rather use it and learn it’s ins and outs before splashing any (more) money it's way! Oh yes and get out and meet some fellow owners too!

  9. I've got the Westfield race seats as per your photo and can vouch for them, they are extremely comfortable, even for a 51 yr old like me with a bad back. Those JK ones are rather tasty though........hmmmm.

  10. Carpet. It's the old piece from our dining room that we were throwing out, helps keep Westy's feet warm and dry. It's wet down here in Devon. And before you ask, no, I dont hoover it much (cough, yes I do) It also makes it comfier when lying underneath trying to tighten up my ruddy gear linkage!

  20. Yes we had a cracking day! Not too many cars so lots of track time, plenty of which was pretty much clear and hardly any red flags. Weather was good too with a slight bit of drizzle around 4.30pm. But the icing on the cake was the superb tuition provided by @AdamR as I think @Matthew Haynes will no doubt agree. Has to be the best value for money “upgrade” to date that has made the car quicker! I’d also like to thank Adam for setting up my new ARBs which combined with the tuition and fresh geo from @Plays-Kool has turned the car into a much better track day tool - and importantly I’ve learned a bit more about how to use it. I'm very happy!!!
