  4. A nice wee jaunt in lovely weather, would have been a magic day for the mystery run. The best road of the day was the stretch alongside Megget Reservoir - nice smooth twisty ribbon of tarmac. Pic is of Talla Dam at the start of the pass.

  6. Need an oil seal for my Sigma engine, a part which has been "deleted" by Ford. A very helpful guy on the Spares desk at my local showroom did a Europe wide search for me. That threw up a Spanish dealer showing one in his stores. Armed with the email address I soon sent a simple message explaining what I was after and that I understood he may have one. I soon received the following reply: "NO VENDEMOS PIEZAS AL EXTRANJERO , SALUDOS ." Bring on Google translate and this is what came up: "WE DO NOT SELL PARTS TO THE FOREIGNER, GREETINGS" I guess that told me

  7. Reluctantly, it's time to sell my much-loved Mazda 1.6 based Westfield. Built by me in 2011, she has given me a lot of ultra reliable fun on road and track as well as a trip to Le Mans, but it's time for the next project and I need the space. I'm based near Chippenham in North Wiltshire. Please note that the Private plate is not included in the sale - the car will revert to a G plate based on the age of the donor car. The car is a standard Mazda SDV built using ZK bodywork and the Westfield completion kit with the chrome pack - no carbon here, mate,, but she has had a few modifications over the years. I have the history of the donor, a file of all the receipts and build photos. She passed IVA at the first attempt: Engine & Gearbox etc are from a 1990 1.6 Mazda MX5 Mk 1. The donor was a much loved car from within the family and had been very well maintained, which reflects in the current reliability. 101k on the donor and I've put on another 7K, so the odometer reads 108K. Mileage is pretty academic really and as SDV'ers will know, parts are plentiful and cheap, including the big stuff like engines and gearboxes. There is potential to turbo/supercharge if required - a route successfully undertaken by other Mazda SDV mates. There is a rumour that the 'out of the box' performance of this particular car drove some to fit turbos just to get ahead of me, but that's another story.... It has been 'breathed on' by Skuzzle motorsports who fitted an ME221 mappable ECU, flowed the head and re-profiled the cams so it now has @145bhp the flywheel, up from the standard 115bhp. It has the 4-1 Westfield manifold fitted as well as a K&N filter. The car has been faultless from the off and starts first time every time, regardless of how long she's been sat in the garage. The standard gearbox is perfect for a Westfield. Standard suspension with GAZ shocks all round, professionally set up by Dave Gallop at Track Developments Other additions: Westfield half hood Playschool MSA roll bar, chromed. Brand new Toyo R1Rs all round - the front ones so new they've not even been fitted yet! Odyssey Gel Battery Shortened sump (done by Gary Gunn of Loaded Gunn) AA Composites lockable boot box (very useful!) Mintex 1144 front pads Perspex wind deflectors MOT October, but will be renewed before then. The car is in excellent condition, although there are the usual gravel rash marks on the front of rear arches and a small hole in the gel coat on the very bottom of the nearside wheel arch - probably stone damage - although this is invisible unless you crawl around underneath. Also, there's some minor gel coat crazing around a couple of the front mudguard mounting bolts. The windscreen has a 'bullseye' in it, but conveniently, it's behind the rearview mirror and has been hidden by a WSCC sticker for years. I'm looking for £8500 07834 539464 if you wish to chat more or come and have a look.

  8. Curborough greeted us with light showers, but the Speed Series were well prepared with their car anoraks We just missed PaulVX, although we managed to wave at him as he left and we arrived. We briefly saw Ian as he had to leave early too. Had we worn the wrong deodrant? Scott came in his Honda powered car with it's now new stage 2 clutch, after Donington ate his standard one. It was a quick hello to Jeff as he ran off to eat his bacon sandwich and we bumped into the newbies, Martyn and Sue, well they are oldies really but we haven't seen them for ages. We had met up with Michael and Martin from the Burton Car Club, gathered Scott and went down into the paddocks where Martyn and Sue already were. Scott was quickly introduced to Matt Haynes who soon whisked him off to meet Garry Bunn, a future speed series competitor in the making. Chris arrived with his daughter, Leah, and son-in-law Steve in their new to them, Honda S2000. Steve is a big fan of the Honda engine. Well he was in good company there then. We showed him Scotts car, also Honda powered. Next minute, off they went for a little test drive. Same engine, car now weighs 700kg instead of 1300kg. It just goes and goes, I don't think Steve stopped smiling all day, he clearly enjoyed it and a big thank you goes to @Scotty72 for the ride. I was parked with Michaels Maserati, which is real, they all seem to drive replica Ferraris in the Burton Car Club and he normally brings the Dino. Suddenly there was a lot of shouting STOP STOP and 'clatter' an idiot marshall drove his car into Martyns rear wing. He then nearly hit the Jag as he parked up, almost hitting the fence behind him too. So, my Speed Series friends, if you get it wrong on track, you are relying on this guy to call the air ambulance and not let you bleed to death, good luck with that one. After saying our goodbye's to Nigel, who had bought one of his super dooper cameras, and to Scott, we set off on my route. What else could possibly go wrong? Well I was quite pleased that I didn't get lost, as I didn't know the area at all, but after a short while the 3 red cars in my mirror disappeared. I had driven over the large, potato looking rock in the road by lining up my wheels and going straight over it. Martyn did the same, only, BANG. He had stopped just to check everything was ok, thankfully it was, his car must be lower than the others. Hey, ho, on we went, over Blithfield Reservoir Into the National Speed Limit bit and a long straight road, suddenly my mirror empties again. My roof bag and come undone at one end and the non-slip mat had flown off, Leah managed to pick it up for me, thank you. We arrived at Denstone Hall Cafe, in one piece, and alive for which we were amazed at. We all enjoyed a nice relaxing lunch, no dramas, many Lemon Meringues, and desserts. Chris and Steve followed us back through the Peak District, which was bathed in the most clear air and lovely sunshine. The roads were nice and dry so when everybody turned off into Ca**ington Water, just as we got to the twisties, we had lots of buzzy fun. Steve will soon be working out how to write the Honda S2000 off without damaging the engine and gear box, it's got DONOR CAR written all over it, YOU KNOW YOU WANT TOO! Steve's car and Chris's car parked at Curborough, but can you see what is wrong with Chris's car, wink, wink

  15. The allocated spaces haven’t gone. I only knew for sure if/when I’d be able to come at the end of last week, so expected to be in a main car park. But on the off chance, on Friday morning I emailed the Gold Cup organisers, and fifteen minutes later a whole weekend display car pass had been emailed over by MSV! So will be on the stand after all. See you in the morning, perhaps?

  18. It’s alternating between sun and cloud here in Rugeley, just five miles from Curborough. We’ve had a couple of light showers, but not even enough to make the roads properly wet Unless it hammers it down in the next hour, I should be there by 12-ish

  22. Having known this car a long time, the photos barely do it justice, great though they are. I’ve never seen another Westfield like this one, it’s been almost legendary in the Cheshire area for the care and detail it’s had lavished on it for all those years.
