Wel today was fun weather wise we went from glorious sunshine to rain to lighting to torrential downpours and back to glorious dunshine again! Just begore we crossed the border from Switzerland to Germany I remembered I still hadn't picked up a vignette sticker you need displayed on your windscreen for Swiss roads, Terry had one so I followed him though border control an inch from his bumper and got though ok Then as if by total chance we were on the German autobahn for a stretch so time go see if the luggage is stable at speed again! The westy did a legal 110 mph 2 up with luggage there was probably a bit more left as well (pic taken by passenger!) when the rain hit we stopped and put on half hoods and doors, it surprising how much they keep out but only once you get them on ! Terry has got himself a stick for when he reverses now which is a great idea lol We are staying at a lovely pub/hotel tonight in Lemberg built in 1872 so a few pilsners and off to bed2 points

That route will take you through Rugeley, my home town, so my knowledge of the area is pretty good. The road from Rugeley, across Blithfield Reservoir and over to Uttoxeter is epic - very fast and flowing. Its one of my favourite "blow out the cobwebs" runs if I just want a 20-minute blat. Its not often that I get a clear run though - lots of 40mph dawdlers I don't know the Denstone cake shop, but I do know that the road from Rocester to Ashbourne is VERY bumpy - not really suitable for pressing on in a Westy - fine for a gentle cruise though and still better than the A515 speed camera purgatory I've replied to your PM, but I'll also have a think about possible alternatives2 points

Like a kid counting down to Christmas, this race meeting could not come round quick enough. I had been over thinking the championship and really trying to get my fitness up, I just wanted to get out there and was chomping at the bit! This was the penultimate meeting of 2018 with the Welsh Sport and Saloon Car Championship. I had to book a different hotel to the one I usually get and although an ok place, it did smell damp in the room and my mate again, snored like a trooper. The ear plugs just didn’t sit right in my ears and I got another crap night’s sleep. Still I’m used to that now and several cups of tea, Lucozade and a healthy dose of adrenaline sorted out the tiredness. Overnight it was very windy and wet. Thankfully the new gazebo (Rock Awnings) held up. I got to the track in drizzle and an uncertain forecast…..after the biblical weather at Donny I wanted summer to return! The grid was down to 14 as a few cars had either crashed or had major failures since the last meeting. This suited me fine as I had enough in my class for a potential maximum points and it gave me lots of space to set a quick one in quali. I was mucho surprised though when I got back to the pits to find out I was on the front row. I thought my mate was taking the mickey (he does that a lot….). P2 was my best ever quali result and for sure down to the wet. Now I wanted it to rain all day so then the sun came out….. The start of race 1 was playing on my mind as I had two powerful cars on the row behind and I had no hope of holding them back. I opted for the don’t change position and let them past as this was least risk (neither were in my class). This worked but I did end up in a Caterham sandwich approaching the first corner. I tried to outbreak one car round the first corner but didn’t quite get it done and held 4th. Just as I was looking to get a good run out of the 3rd corner I got caught unaware by one of the Class CT cars (he was really, really close to my car) and in taking evasive action, ended up on the grass (he apologised after the race). It was a proper heart-stopping moment as the grass was sodden. This can mean you end up either spinning or the car digging in….I backed out of the throttle and got away with it, just managing to hold off 5th place. I quickly got the space back and finished 4th overall, which was what I was hoping for and more importantly 1st in class. Race 2 was less interesting and mostly uneventful to be honest. One of the chasing pack span at the first hairpin and caused bedlam as about 10 cars had to go round a stationary car. I focused on getting the car home but I had also set myself a target. The class lap record was just a tenth of my fastest lap from race 1 and I manage to just dip under it on lap 14 of 16, despite my mate waving to tell me to slow down and think about the points. I finished 4th again and 1st in class once more. All these points mean I can now officially call myself the Welsh Sports and Saloon Car Champion for 2018. I’m a very happy racing driver! Thanks for reading. Vids to follow tonight. Mike Pic of the close moment in Race 1 (yep...that's literally about 3 inches away!) -1 point

Excellent. If you can't find a car, I'm sure you can build one in time1 point

Cheers Adam. Yes the surface seems pretty good - no potholes!1 point

To be honest I didn't really notice any issues with the throttles on track, the drive home was horrendous though. At one point sat at traffic lights with it "idling" at 3000rpm! Video is from late on the day, hence no other cars on track. I was knackered by then and going a bit slower "trying" to experiment with "heel & toe". The shift lights were on earlier honest but that also lead to the high oil pressure alarm, so tried not to set that strobe off in my face too often!1 point

Stunning film, music suits it down to a tee. You say it's a clip, when's the "red carpet" premiere of the complete thing?1 point

Thanks @AdgeC, I will definitely be doing a build thread once the engine arrives! I can't wait to put up some pics of the engine and gearbox and figure out what it all is haha. The guys at WF in Perth put me in touch with a guy who is building an S2000 down in Bunbury, which is about 2 hours south of Perth, but I am going to go down for a look next week amd see what he is up to. I spoke to him on the phone yesterday and he already mentioned a few things I should be wary of. He mentioned that diff ratio selection is important, but I thought that the diff was pre-selected and supplied with the kit? But I will take my pen and paper and get lots of notes when we meet. He did say that this website was a great resource and that he wishes he had discovered it before he started his build! I've been busy the last couple of days trying to convert my garden shed from "a place to store mountains of useless rubbish" into some sort of functioning workshop, and it's nearly there. Will keep you posted when the engine arrives!1 point

Thanks @John, thought you might have invited Steve and Roz, we could have raided their tin for cake @NigelO I do have a bit of a plan but I am always interested in new places to eat cake go. The plan is this, and beware, I am off my Peak District patch so I have taken recent advice and made a bit of a route up, I don't actually have a clue where I am going. Left out of Curborough and left at the end of the road to take the 1st right. A short section of the A51 and then head over Blithfield Reservoir. Left and right to Uttoxeter Past the JCB factory at Rocester, runs us straight into the Denstone Hall Farm Shop and Cafe, known locally on here as 'The Lemon Meringue Cafe' Any good? It's got to better than the A515 and it's speed camera mania1 point

Haha. I built a suprrmoto a few years ago and it got very obsessive. I wanted to change a Honda XR 650 to black. They were only available in red so I commissioned Acerbis to run of 100 rear mudguards in black. An then commisioned an engineering company to make an ally fuel tank the same as a Honda CRF so I could use black. It got very expensive. I will be a bit more careful. Promise.1 point

Ian I had the same strap problem with my Spark helmet! and DT were useless and said it could not be repaired even though it was only 2 years old! But I did sort it ! I will PM you1 point
-
Haha. Its certainly looking that way now They don't do them them selves they go back to the manufacturers Sparco in Italy and i think there lies the problem. Its only just 2 years old and wasn't used last year at all so wasn't very impressed that the strap was falling apart. Perhaps i should have known better with Italian build quality I am all sorted now thanks to a kind donor (in fact 2 now) so will be out at the weekend. Many thanks to all that offered help and made suggestions. Its a great club and shows what the Speed series is all about1 point

@WINGNUT apologies for the delay. Only remembered again when I had to fill up this morning You can see (just about) the exit of the hole inside the recess. I can't actually show you the entry hole as it is somewhat hidden on the lifting tab. If you disassemble the cap it should be straight forward to see. It's only aluminium so easy to drill with the smallest drill you have.1 point

Great to hear you've found an engine. Sure you'll enjoy the WF experience. It's a marvellous way to keep your bank account empty, but a big smile on your face . Highly recommend a build thread, it's a good way to tap into a wealth of experience. Helped me immensely on my build. Best of luck.1 point

For Sale - Westfield SEiW with C2.0XE Vauxhall 16v Engine **Sold to Jim from sunny Edinburgh. Glad it's staying locally! Hopefully Jim will be along to the Forum soon to introduce himself. In the immortal words of Big Arnie "I'll be back!!"** Summary: Registered in 1997 (Q regd.) and it has done around 17.5K miles. Originally factory built and sold by Terry Nightingale as an ex-demonstrator to former WSCC Chairman Paul Edden, then one other owner before me. I bought the car in May 2014. Fitted with a CVH when it left the factory but converted to the 16v Redtop by the first owner (engine originally built by Ash Mason I think but fully rebuilt in my ownership). I have lots of paperwork, including the original build manual and for sale advert. The car was a regular competitor in the Speed series and hillclimbs until I bought it. I converted it back to ‘road’ spec (i.e. refitted the windscreen, wipers, interior trim etc.) and spent a small (or not so small) fortune getting it up to the standard I wanted. It’s only done one trackday at Knockhill in my ownership and plenty of road miles. Apart from the engine rebuild (£3k+ with receipts) and regular maintenance, it’s also had new rear shocks, disks and pads, new brake master cylinder, Willwood front calipers, alternator, inlet manifold (SBD), headlights, fuel filter and hoses, re-plumbed and simplified cooling system (no heater), new cooler running thermostat, new R1R’s, Simpson’s exhaust box, front ball joints, suspension set up and corner weighted. Basically, anything it’s needed has been done. MOT to December 2018 and next oil change also due December 2018. It's not an immaculate show car but is generally in very good clean condition, is reliable and has been maintained regardless of cost. It has all the right bits, IMO, and is equally suited to road or track use. This is my third Westfield and I had never planned to sell it but times change. PM me for a chat or email to mattdotalexanderatvirgindotnet if you want more information or pictures etc. Engine: C2.0XE Vauxhall 16v Redtop ~200bhp Fully rebuilt around 4000 miles ago. Early block with later head. Re-bored and decked block with new forged Omega pistons, re-bushed steel Carrillo rods, ARP big end bolts, reground crank, lightened flywheel and everything fully balanced, including clutch. New oil and water pumps. ~30psi oil pressure when hot at idle / ~60psi at revs. Rebuild stage 3 GM head with oilway mod (head was pressure tested and didn’t need it but was done as a precaution), skimmed, ported, new valve guides, new hydraulic followers and re-profiled cams (286deg/10mm lift). Standard valves. Head has water outlet if you wanted to add a heater. QED alloy shallow sump (with 6mm alloy plate sump guard) and it doesn’t leak! Webcon Alpha 3D ECU Weber 45’s (152G) with Pipercross foam filter and twin throttle cable linkage Vernier pulleys and new timing belt/idler pulley kit SBD inlet manifold SBD Stainless 4:2:1 exhaust manifold Re-packable 7” ceramic coated Simpsons non-cat silencer (or optional re-packable lightweight carbon Techcraft one). Both re-packed with Acoustafill last year. Rally Design oil catch tank (Alloy) Facet Redtop competition fuel pump & Malpassi Filter King regulator (with new filter) Lightweight Redtop battery Denso lightweight alternator Omex rev limiter (currently not used) I can comfortably get 30mpg+ on a long run, 2-up with luggage and being (fairly) sensible. It idles smoothly around 1000rpm and pulls well in all gears. Sounds great with the Webers and big Simpsons exhaust. Drivetrain: Alloy-cased Quaife Type 9 5 Speed straight cut gearbox with long 1st gear (~50mph). Short input shaft version. 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 2.040 1.540 1.210 1:1 0.870 Alloy bell housing Westfield quickshift extension Competition clutch (QED) - cable operated Sierra Viscous LSD fitted 4.4:1 CWP Suspension: Cat Motorsport quick rack (1.5 turns) and wide-track front suspension with rose-jointed adjusters. Disc brakes all round. Front - Cross drilled and lightened with Willwood 4-pot calipers. Rear - new grooved disks, Sierra calipers & new pads. Adjustable brake bias from inside the cockpit. TSW Stealth 7x15" Alloys with 195/50/15 Toyo R1R's Front & Rear adjustable anti roll bars (front one is Cat Motorsport, not sure about rear) AVO dampers with bump rebound adjustment (new alloy rears and new springs) Body and interior: ‘Kit’ fixed-arch bodywork in original red gelcoat. Good condition for year with very slight crazing on O/S rear arch. Windscreen and earlier, stiffer doors (don’t flex like the later ones), WF half-hood with storage bag. Metro mirrors. Bootbox and full tonneau cover with centre zip VDO instruments, keyless start and master RAC cutoff on dash New capillary oil pressure gauge (original electric one and sender available) Manual cooling fan override on dash (uses heater switch) 12v charging socket Standard WF sports seats and 3” 5-point harnesses Top-mounted pedals Heavy duty removable fitted rubber floormats instead of carpets Std 5” headlights with Osram night-breaker bulbs RAC rollbar with rose-jointed backstays Wide Westfield cycle wings (will easily cover 205’s) Standard WF fuel tank with locking cap. Quick release steering wheel Optional aero-screen available. I absolutely love the car and didn’t think I’d be doing this but I’m just not using it nearly as much as I’d like to for a number of reasons and it doesn’t make sense to leave it sitting in the garage. However, if it doesn’t go for the asking price, I’ll hang on to it. Price: £SOLD Located in central Scotland.0 points
