Blimey, 9 cars again, anyone would think it was summer. There were 8 cars at Curborough with Jordan and his father joining us in Ashbourne later, making 9 in total. At Curborough were Trevor, Ian, Stuart, Dave, Gail (no Ali, he was on the Harley in the Elan Valley), Andy, Andy and Oscar, Rob and his son. Paul VX has sold his GT86 and bought a M240i BMW to show to us, complete with matching number plate, nice one Mr H. The inevitable soon happened and off came the bonnets The other inevitable soon happened when I started to take a panorama photograph, everyone set off running, even me when Glen got the camera Andy, Gail, Trevor and Rob and his son had other commitments and went on their way, while we set off to Ashbourne and the Okeover Arms for lunch. The driving was a bit different to last week but it is still nice to be driving a Westfield in a convoy, don't underestimate it. The Okeover Arms, a large car park, lots of outside seating and great food, champion. Glen said the beer was good too, rub it in. While we were sat having lunch.... ...Jordan and his father arrived and parked up with us at The Okeover Arms. Bored with the straight road from Curborough, we needed some of those super roads, deep in the Peak District, plus we needed cake. We set off and it was busy, and it got busier. OK it was moving but, on the small roads, it was comparatively slow for a convoy of Westfields. Soon the reason was to be revealed, it was the Manifold Country Show, so the normally quiet roads you can bomb about on were not as much fun as I would have liked. We arrived at Wetton Village Hall and Tea Room...... .....just in time for a monkeys tea party, with cake of course Ian went topless for the second time today It's been great to catch up with everyone's news, cars are never dull things and there is always something being fiddled with, well put it this way there was not a quiet moment all day. Lots of fun and quick witted banter, especially from the Honda fraternity, which we all love. Thanks for a fantastic day yet again, here are a few more photos. Rob plus son Trevor Andy fixes aeroplanes for a living and informed me that the large, slow plane I could see was the Airbus 380, was just coming in to land from the Emirates. Never off duty eh.4 points

Out of interest I think someone should do a comparison chart for these Peak District runs out, calories eaten versus mile's driven!!!!2 points

I have been given the provisional dates for the Silverstone classic 2019. 26th-28th July 2019 These may move due to the F1 but they didn't this year so they should be fairly accurate. Also for those interested this years classic will be on Channel 4 on Sunday 12th at 17:45.1 point

I've tracked them down! They are still with Brian (I passed them to him after I'd finished mine) and he's not finished with them yet Perhaps knowing that you may need them in a few months will spur him on to finish with them?1 point

As we have quite a number of members outside the UK, then they would appear to think so. It’s barely more than a single Westfield sized tank of fuel in this country. But in the end, no one can make a value judgement like that, but yourself. You may well decide that no it’s not worth it to you personally, and that’s fine. It’s your calculation to make. How much return you get depends on both how much you want to put into the club and how much you want out in the form of discounts etc. I appreciate that many discounted items might be a bit tricky, depending just how far away you are. But in terms of how much you put in, then your geographical location doesn’t really matter if you want to take part heavily in the on line community and via the club magazine. We’d certainly love to hear of experiences from a different countries perspective, but we can’t force you to contribute! (And nor should we.) We’d love it if you do join, but will respect your wishes if you don’t!1 point

I had problems with tank venting when I first built my Westi, I checked and checked the venting system but it would still do it. With mine if I'd been on a spirited drive and then pulled up as it dropped to idle it would cut out, it would start again and run OK afterwards. I spoke to Westfield about the problem and from what they said my conclusion was that the vent pipe was collapsing on it self when the tank was under negative pressure, thus blocking the pipe. when stopped it would slowly release and all would be OK. I ended up drilling a very small hole in the fuel cap, not ideal I know, but I have not had an issue again.1 point

It’s not a bad idea, but I’d be really uncomfortable about doing it on a Westfield, (with their typically smaller batteries and charging systems), without some safety over ride that would stop it before it could flatten the battery too much. I do appreciate I’m being paranoid though. i must admit, I do also have a bit of an aversion to systems that can run on, on a car, with the ignition key removed. As for the possible tank issue. Yeah, as has been said, check the venting if it sounds like gurgling! The vent hoses are notorious for creasing and collapsing in on themselves over time, blocking things up - don’t forget tanks vent both ways, both positive and negative pressure, so when the tank is under partial vacuum, if the hose is part blocked, it can actually cause more of the hose to “collapse” in on itself and block further. Then, I guess just the action of drawing petrol fumes through the valves, can gum them up a bit, long term, and stop them working properly. (I know I need to replace mine, it’s sort of working, but definitely not as well as it should!) Dont forget though that you want a proper vent valve, that lets air pass in either direction. (Some of the ones you see advertised are just one way valves, they’ll stop fuel coming out if you roll the car, but not vent both positive and negative pressure changes.1 point
