  1. In the 60's, my grandfather built this 28ft solid kauri-planked coastal launch in his backyard, took him 1-1/2 years to do it - and she's still on the water to this day (recent pic). When it was finished, it had to be craned over the top of his neighbour's house to the awaiting lowloader. Lots of nail-biting done that day!

  2. Not a bad turnout, although if FIFA had consulted me about their match arrangements first then we might have had more people coming.

  7. I thought that was the problem! With luck, you can swap an engine out before Blyton - one of the benefits of a not too highly modified lump.

  9. I'm up on the Isle of Barra Outer Hebrides sharing a hotel with a couple of Catering van owners, they looked down their noses at me when I said I had a Westie!!! The weather is absolutely brilliant, even out here in the Atlantic. Once you have had enough of the west coast (unlikely for a long while!) we must organise to do the outer Hebrides, the roads are as good as the west coast, the scenery and beaches even better and the food is amazing. We've spent a week working our way from Stornaway down to Barra crossing endless causeways between islands and getting to know Calmac Ferries very well. I hope all goes well with your trip, give my regards to Ullapool and watch out for those boulders in the middle of the single track roads. Cheers Mike

  10. I think the dead would rather be remembered positively than forgotten on stone plaques. If as long as people are reminded that their freedoms are only what they are due to the sacrifice of others. The proceeds go towards helping others who suffered to protect us... my objection if it’s organised just to line the organisers and artists pockets. Which saddly is probably the truth!

  14. It's daft. I'm in the cycling industry and one of the guys who works here knows a fair bit about this. Apparently a lot of pro cyclists have asthma or other respiratory diseases. b*****k*. I would bet good money that they get a bogus diagnosis so they can take these drugs which would otherwise be illegal. Why would you pursue a career in something that almost solely relies on you having very efficient lungs if you have a respiratory disease? And how would you get any good at it (to get towards pro level) if you did have such diseases? It's a shame that cheating and dishonesty is so rife through all aspects of life nowadays.

  17. Well, I chose Autoaid in the end due to recommendations here. My son needed them today; they came quite quickly for a weekend and were fantastic, bringing the car home and pushing it up the drive for us (broken release bearing suspected). Thanks to all who replied.
