  2. Just wanted to say a massive thanks to @Arm for all the hard work, help, advice and perseverance in rebuilding my engine. Totally over the moon with the quality of the work done (bracket manufacture is top quality) and advice given throughout the journey. The outcome today on the rollers was better than envisaged. We aimed for 240 bhp as a strong figure and got 242 bhp at a very sensible rev limit of 7300 rpm along with 179lbft at 6,000 rpm with a good spread of torque aligned with the gearing. The engine is a C20XE on ITBs with SBD valve train and QED450 cams. Standard valves and no headwork. The car pulls so hard that I would never need more in a road/occasional track car. Thanks Ash - top job from a genuinely nice bloke!!

  3. Hi everyone just wanted to introduce myself Picked up my fw kit in February. Enjoying the build but taking alot longer than expected as am experience that the manual is vague at the best of times . Got to the stage of putting the diff in but yet again manual is useless and one of the Allen key headed bolts refuses to fit into one of the 4 locations on the top . Was a complete novice on fitting brake pipes etc. So hopefully now I'm onto suspension might progress a little quicker

  10. Hi all, Recently I bought a Northampton Motorsport/SBD 305bhp Duratec motor which came from a car that was shunted whilst sprinting. It came with most of the bits needed to finish it, including a very damaged Simpson exhaust. One the engine was in, it was easy to tell that the manifold was a bit of a banana: As well as the silencer being scrap: So I had to look at my options. I didn't like the design of any off the shelf exhausts, so that only left me with the custom route. I looked at Simpson, Powerspeed etc but all either were too far away, could not fit me in, or were laughably expensive. A friend recommended CSK Race Exhausts in Pocklington East Yorkshire. http://www.cskraceexhausts.co.uk/ I messaged on Facebook, got a prompt response and booked the car in. The manifold was built to SBD's specs with some CSK tweeks. CSK also re welded the Wunoff silencer as the welding on that was below par. I left the car with CSK along with the brief to keep to SBD's specs, even though I was really limited on space on the car, and keep it so I can get full lock as full compression. I'll let the photo's do the talking: Overall I'm blown away with the quality and Charlie and Louis were genuinely nice guys too. Charlie also did some welding on my engine mounts while it was there. I can't recommend these guys enough, so please check out their website and consider them for work in the future.

  11. Hi all, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that made us feel welcome at the double header Snetterton weekend and particularly to Steve Carpenter and Rosalyn Kennett. (I would have still been rolling around on 3 cylinders if Steve hadn't solved our little spark plug issue!) The support from everyone was awesome and we're really grateful being part of such a good crowd. We're hoping to get out later in the year and we'll look forward to seeing everyone again soon.

  18. I’ve got the old printout Dave. It’s pretty much the same this time. It made 242.4 bhp at 7,339 and 179.6 lbft at 6,040. Pulls immensely well, very different to before. Quite scary for my first Westy so need to be careful!

  20. Ouch! Had something similar years ago, I was cutting some kitchen worktop material when it came loose and dropped 2’ sideways across my foot. Most of my foot was that colour. Just had to limp for several days. If you’re not a drinking man - start. GWS!

  23. Lol!. I'm sure you'll be ok. Blyton's a good track to learn a car, by the end of the day I'm positive you'll be buzzing. I've been down to Blyton for the last 5-6 years but wasn't sure if I could make it this year, when I saw that you and the boghouse were going it prompted me to make further efforts. So BOOKED ON!   24. Surely you should be putting the Westy on that trailer (or any trailer) the opposite way round (i.e. drive it on not reverse it on). You want the majority of the weight in front of the trailer not behind it otherwise you risk it fishtailing on you

  25. I've tried a few places, but have settled on the top of the rear cage hoop. Left side pointing down enough to see steering and gear changes.. & dials if the camera was a bit more high res.. It's high enough to see where the front wheels are plus a good view of the track ahead. Turning the camera round, facing the rear now and again is quite satisfying. If you get someone to trail round behind for a while. High tech exhaust clamp and alloy plate solution for me.

  33. Well. the route was penciled on OS maps on the weekend - and it's a very full day of driving by the looks of it! Plenty of B roads and single track lanes, with a smattering of A roads to link things up. Looks to be six petrol stations on the route for the gas-guzzlers. This weekend we are driving the route to see if it works and to populate the route book. I'll update early next week on how we got on.

  34. thanks to Joiner Jeff for organising a great day out in good company Some amazing machines on display , one of my faves was a Sopwith Pup , beautifully made from wood and canvas . Some of the WW2 exhibits make you wonder what might have been a very different outcome if the war had been prolonged a bit longer
