Ooooooo, but how I’d love to discuss a few of those individual cases...! Just the thought of them gets me reaching for my club decanter and glass. Paying £30 to join prevents almost, but not all horses’ arses from joining. Happy days... :D3 points

Great day yesterday, even though Gary's unfortunate radiator mishap on the Bealach curtailed the run slightly. It made an adventure out of it though, and I'm sure he and Trina will be joining you again in the next day or so. We had fantastic weather, great company and loads of the usual banter and teasing. Can't wait for next Tuesday when I can join you again, but in the meantime, have a great time in Orkney. From the new Steve Austin 73 points

I have just spent a very good half day with Steve and his team at Vibration Free near Bicester. It is a company who specialises in balancing anything that rotates from car related up to helicopter parts. I have had a problem with my motorhome ever since I built it with a vibration through the drive train. The dealers said it was the propshaft as they had fitted another temporarily and it was cured, so a new prop was made, expensive as it was three pieces and it was better but still bad enough to make driving a chore. There followed several more attempts to sort it out and it got gradually worse It took Steve 3 hours to sort it out balancing it on the van and now it drives better than it has ever done. He explained in detail what he was doing step by step until he had each part balanced singly and together. I wonder just how much money I spent that was not really needed in the past. If anyone needs and engine balancing or indeed anything I could not recommend them more highly. There is also a few good projects to look at that Steve owns and races in historic races all over Europe. I am not connected in anyway just very happy, hope this post is okay2 points

I try and get the bay number if it has one, or floor number in the shot, too. If I can't and it's a really big multi-storey, somewhere I'm not familiar with, I've even been known to take a shot of the floor number in the stairwell. Usually, I don't need them, but they have been handy after the odd over-nighter.1 point

Definitely wont be one of those Pete. Something Dick Dastardly would drive . Sorry mate !1 point

Or mine.... Build an SDV then you get a restoration and a Wessie all in one go. Anyway whats wrong with rust? We all live in the UK so its bread and butter over here in fact its one of my five a day.1 point

Try explaining to the people about driving at 200 mph as well, as they dont see it as a sensible approach in a course when you have been nabbed for 60 in a 50 on motorway road works, like one of my engineers who has a drag bike1 point

Its a bit worrying that the area that eats the most food/ cakes need to go weighing themselves and cars ? Are there issues with road weights or something where they want to go next1 point
-
That's a good idea Dave, especially if you have GPS enabled 'cos the picture will have coordinates logged won't it? Not much good in a multi-storey but handy in a field. I carried my TomTom in my pocket at Silverstone once some years ago so that I could flag its location when I parked and then find the car among the thousands of others later.1 point

I did buy a second hand one thinking I’d build it into this car, from the start. But when it came down to it, I just couldn’t find anywhere suitable to put the bottle. I didn’t want to loose boot box space, as it’s a tourer, I’d originally though I’d put the bottle between the boot box and the rear bulkhead, but then I realised that even if it fit, I’d have to leave the safety pins permanently out, as you wouldn’t be able to get at them. I was just worried that I’d leave it parked up, and come back to find it looking like the aftermath of a foam party after the inevitable passer by or kid pulled the red handle I thought I’d re look at the idea earlier this year, then read a press release regarding bottle aging and them no longer being refilled beyond a certain limit. Mines over that, so now the one I had is useless anyway.1 point

Hi, I plumbed a Lifeline Zero 360 system under the scuttle of my Eleven. It has three nozzles in the engine bay, one beneath the scuttle and one each pointing into each footwell. The control box (containing the battery that powers the electronics) is at the side of the driver footwell and the red push button is in the centre of the dashboard. I went for a gas extinguisher as I believe that the likely effect of the gas extinguishant far outweighs the much greater cost over an AFFF unit. Gas also does not leave a deposit that is difficult to clean off, unlike powder. I am old enough to remember how good the now banned BCF (Halon) extinguishers were and also how ineffective AFFF ones turned out to be when we had to use them first in rallying. The amounts of foam carried in a car extinguisher are there to buy you a few extra seconds to get out of a burning car, but will be unlikely to be able to put a reasonable fire out. It is no accident that fire engines are the size they are! When I had hand held extinguishers in my rally car, I provided the extra restraint in the bracket by using a bicycle toe strap run around the bracket and the bottle. These were quick release, were rather strong by design and never let me down in several years of competing on stage events. They weren't dear, either. Simon1 point

I have been giving some thought to a change of wheel for quite some time, whilst I like and will be keeping the OZ Ultraleggaras I have wanted something with a bit more "bling".Always liked the quality of Image wheels but always found the price a bit hard to stomach - typically £1500-1600 for a set of 4 in 15" without tyresStumbled across a set in the correct fitment for my car a coupe of weeks ago and made a cheeky offer which was accepted. Whilst not new they had been on the car for only 600 miles and had been stored for the last 3 years.Although they do not look it they are 3 piece, the bolts are mounted on the inside of the rim which means cleaning less of a chore.Trial fitment only tonight as they need a lot of polishing but really happy with the look - even better is that they are 1kg per wheel / tyre lighter than the Ultraleggaras.1 point

Doesn’t need to be a ratchet strap, I used a very broad Velcro strap on mine, which I tested first by looping round a garage joist and swinging on, if it can take my weight, a fire extinguisher in any sort of impact that isn’t immediately fatal anyway, won’t be a problem! I used four big spreader washers behind the bulkhead. HOWEVER. confession time, I’ve never been really happy with where it is from a practical point of view, it does get in the way getting in and out of the car, for me. Have been considering moving it to the passenger floor. I don’t carry passengers that often, so although it would be in there way, I’m less concerned! (Your welcome to try getting in/out of mine Andy, see if it’s OK where it is, for you.)1 point

Glad you're having a good time, and the weather is holding. Motorfactors must be few and far between up there! Best of luck, keep the pictures coming.1 point

I don't think you need to keep the ultraleggeras any more. I think you should pass them to another forum member at a very good rate not that I'm hinting obviously. New wheels look great btw1 point

I live in the middle of a housing estate, so using gas bombs like farmers and birds in distress machines will feck a load of people off. We only had 3 on the car and one window by the time I got up this morning, so thats less to clean up than usual Ironically one of the neighbours that feeds the birds said the other day , he was having issues with bird droppings .............. Then my cat brought a rat into the garage where we were and he said 'oh'............... educating pork doesnt happen............ I may get a couple of owls or falcons , but they look rubbish . I look forward to rain , as it washes the crap off the cars as it lands currently.1 point

As it's weigh in time again....I feel a small competition heading this way Shall we go for the closest to the weight difference between :- Dave's getting ready for France config .... vs Julie's shiny thing with the permanent passenger in situ. Answers in KG1 point
-
I don’t need a weigh ridge to tell me mine weighs a tonne, specially in its “getting ready for France” state with all the spares, jack and. Luggage stuff on board. But a good run out is definitely overdue, as there’s a few things I want to shake down ready for the off. So hopefully I should be there!1 point
