Sometime after @Chris King - Webmaster and Joint North East AO's 27th Pint, I recall him saying something along the lines that he loves his role, but we just don't stretch his technical abilities enough. I therefore propose he develops a Pokemon Go style app to be used at Stoneleigh and local meets to help us all link our online friends with the real bodies they occupy. This app would use GPS locating beacons already in smart phones and augmented reality to superimpose Forum names over smartphone camera images to show us a view such as below. In the above example you could keep walking from Julie to find Trevor in the Marque, with the aid of the phone app. As I'm sure @Chris King - Webmaster and Joint North East AO likes to exceeds targets, he could also include a number plate recognition tool to advise forum username when looking at cars through your smart phone too.9 points

Why use tecnhology when a hat with the yellow signs as above stuck to peoples heads means no one has a flat battery . Could be tricky on a windy day though............4 points

Having sat amongst the organisers for this year with a view to assisting or providing back-up should one of them get stage fright etc.,I'm amazed at the level of detail and great work done behind the scenes done by @Trevturtle @marcusb @Stuart Faulkner - Shows & Events Coordinator It clearly shows over the weekend and it's good to see the attendees enjoyed it and appreciate the effort put in by the 3 above+ all the helpers! I'm not excluding Andy Crow either, who's also helped in the background too.4 points

@Matthew Haynes brill, something to photograph so don't forget to smile . My go faster tip is - point your toes on your right foot, often and at the appropriate moment. @Trevturtle yes you were Plan A, but crikey after all the hard work of last weekend I think Kirsty has first dibs on you this weekend, it was a bit naughty of me to suggest really but the sun set me off. looks like it's going to be a good turn out, pray for sunshine2 points

The car would appear to be in very similar spec to the highly documented and developed form it was in when sold, EBC pads included.2 points

I use the car builder stuff, but its all similar. Just glued a sole on a shoe and its on day 2 so far and still stuck.............. ( carbon fibre addiction causes poverty , to why I am gluing shoes together)2 points

If R1R tyres are still available from the factory go with them, T1R are too hard for a light car. If no R1R's these days then choose something else that has a softer compound such asAD08. If you go with 205 size the front arches need to be changed as well, factory do them as well. Wide track is also high in the list for an uprgrade. How much more money do you want us to spend for you? and Of course2 points

Wide track is good , especially for 3 point turns without loosing rear tyres from donuts................. Oh and welcome. At least with the classic it comes with a manual BUT DO NOT RELY ON THE MANUAL. Please ask here first in a build thread before drilling or cutting anything that cant easily be reversed ! Oh and welcome2 points

It's hard to critique when the volunteers have done a brilliant job so first off well done to all. What I find in the Marquee is when its busy its hard to get an overall feel in the area on where to go to, I agree having a focal display in the centre may work, ideally it would work better if this is raised. My other thought is could the Marquee be moved into the centre of the allocated area so the cars are all around it. As far as the speed series stand yes I missed it, would it be possible to get a stand next to the Westfield stand or is there an desire to separate Unfortunately I feel Stoneleigh is dying and wont be long before it comes to an end, which is a shame as the kit car market is moving up with quality cars but I just can't see the interest their use to be. But again I would like to say great job from WSCC2 points

I can’t say I know BECs well, but all the usual signs of a good build with plenty of attention to detail look to be there in the photos.2 points

Took me a while to realise how rubbish they are. Even after many potential life shortening episodes with yellows and greens and wondering why people sing their praises , I now have decided lifes worth living . I have recently ditched the black pads out of my factory supplied Hi Spec calipers and now have Mintex in there and feel far more confident I will stop in time.1 point

Your advice made logical jumps and contained assumptions that simply do not compare with the historically documented side of this cars history. I’ve never used EBC pads, you may we’ll be right, but I’m aware it’s also not black and white on that topic. We’ve had debates on them in the past on the Boardroom, many dislike them, but I have to say ay, some have also liked them. This car was methodically developed over some years, with much of the testing documented at the time on the owners web site. It contained many custom made elements in carbon fibre and other lightweight materials, if I remember right, a fair bit of the composite work was done by John himself. One of the primary goals was a very low weight and high power to weight ratio. This was achieved, it was SVA’d at sub 430 kg. It was not built as a track nail, but at the time was built to an exceptionally high standard, (I recall seeing it at Stoneleigh many years ago) and was built with very single minded focus on its desired goals. It was the builders second Westfield, though John was instrumental in helping on many other builds, from what I recall. Im not sure why you seem to find a plumbed in fire extinguisher system on a road/track day car so offensive, while the anti roll bar issue is an interesting one. We’ve had plenty of very studied pieces written on here, including by Adam, illustrating the pros and cons. I do agree, you do have to be careful going off photos alone, of an unknown car. And of course close examination is always good advice. But while everyone is fully entitled to their opinion, including strong dislikes for items. Please, do temper what you right with a little common sense too, before we get complaints of libeling manufacturers.1 point

All thanks for the comments! I do appreciate everyone’s time... I’ve now secured the car so just got to head down test drive it, make sure I’m happy and then somehow make it back up. Does anyone one know any decent trailer hire companies? Also is there anybody who is well known on the forum local to Cardiff / Bridgend?1 point

First welcome to the club, best move I ever made and I wish you the very best of luck . I'd highly recommend getting along to your local group meetings, one of the very best moves I made as you will find everybody is very helpful and friendly. Whereabouts are you in the country? 2nd if going for a build then start a build thread in the build section and have a read through some of the builds there, some very important lessons can be learned before touching a wrench or a drill. We LOVE pictures as well, and they have saved me from schoolboy mistakes on many occasions. Have gained lots of inspiration for builds like Dave's and AdgeC, many of the principles are the same across the range. 3rd bits you have on the car seem to be somewhat dependant on what you are planning to use the car for - for example I don't see myself doing very many track days so did not bother with ARB's but I have the ability to fit them if up-gradeitys should strike. On the tyres I have 205's on my 250 build, but that's probably more related to the engine, and decided not to take tyres from the factory as I was not particularly happy with the options available at the time, and besides they would be sitting in the garage for a long time so decided to get mine independently. Again I would suggest tyre choice is related to what you intend to use the car for, but as was pointed out to me in the very beginning don't take a brand/model of tire from WF thinking your going to change them at a later date, they will last a long time. Outside of tyres, have you taken any options with the kit, as this was a big thing for me to make sure I didn't have regrets at a later date? I detailed my choice on the forum very early in the process and had some great feedback have a look here (wow it was a long time ago it seems) I took my kit in 2 stages as didn't see the point of having to store bodywork as even in a double garage space is an issue, but that might just be me. And lastly as the caffeine is slowly wearing off, don't be afraid to ask questions, we all stat at different levels and this is the best source of info on WF cars, and a great bunch of people And of course colour, cos Red is the fastest of course1 point

We have had this comment as few times and although it is a good idea we are restricted with underground cables and we have to follow ground penetration advise, there are main cables running down the centre of the plot1 point

Welcome! 195’s would be fine all round, you’d need to stick with 7” wheels front and back, but don’t worry about filling the rear arches; that’s taken care of by something called wheel-offset, in other words, how far out from the hub it bolts to, that the outside edge of the wheeel sticks! However, some do go for the 8” Team Dynamics on the rear and 7” on the front, purely for aesthetics, as the 8” have an ever so slightly more dished look to the spokes, compared to the 7”s, echoing the more traditional wheel look of the past, on a rear wheel drive car. In which case, people do tend to go for 205’s all round. aso for road use, it’s really just what you like the look of!1 point

Morning all, going to sort passes for this over the next day or two. I’ll need reg numbers of anyone who’d like to attend to sort the free entry passes so please pm them to me when possible. Suggest we meet in ‘The East Restaurant’ car park (AL8 7TB) as usual around 9-9:15am as the show opens at 10. Rich1 point

Looking at others comments, I also think the marquee could have been more of a focal point, but I'm not convinced adding more cars would necessarily acheive this. There were 150+ cars to view, so the inside content may benefit from being different. The part refurbed car was a good addition, but may have been better parked in the middle and roped off, to make it more of a display item. Although it would involve some logistics, an engine or two on stands would be something different to look at (I always think seeing the size of an engine out of the car makes you wonder how it ever fits under the bonnet of a Westfield. Make the refreshments area more "café" like, with a decent seating area inside and give the merchandise area a bit more space. The cars are all around for everyone to see, why not make the marquee a club area which is, after all, what we are trying to promote. My two penneth.1 point

Just like to echo the comments, first time to the show for me and a worthwhile drive down from bonny Scotland....the weather was great and the WSCC stand was well turned out...met a few of the members and thanks to Dave for showing me his setup for the steering wheel controls and Mike for bringing a freewheel kit....winter project I'm thinking...I had a go in the Westfield drifting which was top class and came home with the boot of the full of goodies...well done to all...1 point

I thought it was an excellent showing by the Club and its members, as good as ever (my attendance was restricted to Sunday). The turnout of club members in their cars was very impressive. No doubt helped by the weather. I was a bit disappointed with the Speed Series display in hall 2. John was doing his best, but with hardly any support from any of the Speed Series regulars. In the past there have been several sprint cars on display, including one or two fairly extreme (ie high powered) sprint cars, which adds interest. Not helped I guess by 2 rounds of the Speed Series on the same weekend. As an ex-Speed Series competitor it saddens me that we have this clash of dates, not only with Stoneleigh but also the 21st celebrations at Shelsley. I hope I'm wrong, but the impression I get is that it isn't going to help the cause of encouraging new entrants to the Speed Series, which is a great shame as anyone who hasn't tried it cannot imagine the camaraderie and excitement of competing against similar cars is so fantastic, and is to be encouraged. Not helped by being obscured by the huge display boards in front of the stand.1 point

Hi, I don't feel massively qualified as it was my first visit but here is a few newbie 2 pences to throw into the mix... The Good Presentation and scale wise WSCC was the standout at the show, by a fair margin Banners looked good and I had no problem finding it (unlike other clubs) I liked the marquee, it felt like a hub without being too crazy, the covered seated area probably helped with that so people could still get out of the sun now and again without cluttering up the space The t-shirts made it really clear who is organising The hospitality/facilities for members was great once I knew what was what (more on that later) e.g. the drop-off, snack shop, seating area, BBQ, etc... The autojumble had more decent stuff in than I was expecting (and in fact it turns out something I really wanted that I unfortunately missed as I didn't see it ) - I've run one with a previous car club and the bits that got brought along that time really weren't worth selling mostly, this was much better! I just need to be more confident rooting around next time. There were loads of cars! I think I did three or four laps of them all picking up ideas, taking photos, etc... The plot was well organised, car were parked well. In general it felt like a slick place to be compared to the others The volunteers were all really friendly, helpful and hard working - great work! The not so good (I'm not going to say bad as it really wasn't) As a very new club member (only having my car a week) and first time visitor I was a bit unsure what the process/procedure was and knew literally nobody. I kind of mooched around the marquee for a bit looking slightly awkward and eventually spoke to Mark at the membership desk and had a good chat (we live near each other). As part of that he said about getting a name badge and what the deal was with the drop-off, BBQ, etc... and suddenly it felt very relaxed and easy. Maybe it's just me but I really felt better having a printed name badge on as it made breaking ice conversations easier. I agree about not mass printing 1000s of labels, but printing on demand worked well and I just think it needed sign posting a bit more (e.g. "WSCC Member Sign-In/Badges here" type of thing) so I could have known to go straight over (apologies if there was and I missed it). Also a member show benefits/itinerary type board near the entrance might be good to let new people know where to go/who to speak to/who is allowed some BBQ'd meat Just a thought - I know a lot of this was probably covered on the forum but it was hot and I forgot things I unfortunately missed the 'bonnets off' due to getting wrapped up in an ultimately pointless chat on a trade stand. As such I didn't really get to speak to any owners about their specific cars which would have been great. I wonder if doing a morning and afternoon 'bonnets off' would be good to allow people to track car owners down a bit easier for a chat/sit? Generally some way of being able to find the owner of 'car A' to discuss 'modification B' would have been great but I know people can't be hanging around on the off chance. Hall 2... visited and the stand itself was fine but very out of the way at the back and screened by GBS, not great. I also think it felt like something that should maybe be on the club stand. I think in my head it would be better if the club stand was where most of the things were located, and then the hall stand is more a general WSCC promotions booth so it advertises the club, sell merchandise, directs people to come outside to the club area, etc... rather than being a club/speed series split. Generally across the show I felt the "trade" places were not what I was expecting at all (and as has been mentioned some of the halls felt very sparse). In my head I expected to be coming home with boxes and bags full of bits and bobs, and at least a couple of expensive impromptu purchases I would have to try and explain to the wife. As is happened I only picked up a couple of bits that I had arranged pre-show (as it was better than posting) and then spent nearly 2 hours online when I got home ordering things I couldn't find (e.g. I couldn't even get a set of harness eye bolts on the day which really surprised me!). If the show itself isn't supporting that sort of stand, then maybe there would be milage in inviting some of the Westfield friendly sellers to setup on our plot? (I'm thinking Soft Bits and some of the carbon guys maybe?) All in all though I really enjoyed my first Stoneleigh and will come back again next year with a volunteers t-shirt on and a tent to lend a hand. Thanks, Andy P.S. Just realised that it looks like I have more bad than good above, I really don't, I've just waffled on to provide a detailed comment on the couple of things1 point
