Big thankyou to the Stoneleigh team. The stand was easily the best in the show. It was good for me to meet some new faces and it was nice to be made so welcome.2 points

Just wanted to say thanks to all the organisers and volunteers for all the hard work and putting such a huge club area together. Didn't speak to many as I don't know anyone being new, but hope that changes by next year! Thanks again2 points

We used my label printer for badges this year. Sticky badge WSCC logo, name etc. We pre printed all the volunteer badges before the event, but didn't want to print badges on request until we'd tested the process......small steps, no big leaps as there was enough to 'juggle' over the weekend The few badges we did print worked ok (Thanks Anna @a15cro) .. so we may extend this next year As part of the testing process we tried updating forums names on certain members badges because of unfortunate events over the weekend..( where's my map? ). That worked very well, caused a chuckle and I had to run away2 points

In the end the WSCC Speed Series was represented by 7 entries at Shelsley Walsh, four Westfields in the WSCC dedicated class, Mike West hiding in the Road Going Specialist Production class (which was merged with various other classes throughout the weekend), Mark Schlanker in 1000cc to 1600cc racing cars and myself in a (non-WSCC scoring) National A Formula Ford class. Stu Hill and David Birch were there spectating and providing support in the paddock. I would guess David consumed multiple ice creams during the day. We awoke on Saturday morning to a slightly misty Teme valley that was soon burnt off by the strong sun providing us with immediate track heat and perfect conditions from the first practice run on Saturday through to the last competition run on Sunday. With temperatures were well into the mid 20's from early morning the paddock garages provide much needed shade. The organiser's warned us of a "green" course as this was their first event of the year, but practice times showed that this was not worrying many drivers. Both days progressed like clockwork, MAC running the event in their normal almost military-like fashion, and the drivers didn't connect with any immovable objects and had very few breakdowns. Saturday ran so smoothly that we (Nation A lot) were even offered a third practice run, though not many took the opportunity as had retired to the camping field and averting serious cases of dehydration with consumption of ice cold beer. Sunday was equally as perfect, seeing many PB's being set. The Westfield drivers showing what can be achieved in these great little cars, in front of 100's of spectators. Tim Pennington took honours on both days with the other Westfields close on his heels. Mike took a class win on Saturday but only to be beaten on Sunday by a very well presented and driven Westfield (ex Paul Morcom ) by John Bradshaw. Mark was on his own in his class on Saturday and then joined by some quick 1600cc race cars on Sunday but was the quickest up to 1100cc car on both days (excluding the National A runners). I came second in the National A Formula Ford class, only 0.1 seconds behind the winner. For those that have not experienced the atmosphere and challenge of the Shelsley Walsh hill then there is still another round of the of the Speed Series on 17th June (get your entries in quickly as will be over-subscribed), so enter the event or come along and spectate. Or join the WSCC Speed Series 21st Anniversary Celebrations on Saturday, 23rd June, for some non-competitive runs up the hill - you can drive any kind of car but the more Westfields there the better. A great event, enjoyed by all.2 points

I thought the marquee really needed more cars as it was sparse in comparison to last year - obviousley it was a lot busier last year within the tent due to the poor weather So my thoughts are if the weather is good get more motors/owners into the marquee to bring people in! If the weather is crap like it was last year free up more space for people to mill around. I thoughts Scotts engine upgrade last year added lots of interest and camaraderie to the event - perhaps something similar could be done next year? Some sort of car upgrade during the show - maybe that could be done within the marquee? Maybe a member supplies the parts and then a group of volunteers help with the upgrade? Other than that I thought it was a fantastic effort as always - the drinks and snacks were greatly appreciated as was the burger at lunch, as was the banter and all around good spirits! Oh - and bring more baseball caps2 points

I hope this will explain the badges this year? We only printed badges before the show for volunteers this year. In past years we printed badges for all members and 75% were thrown away (people didn't attend the show), and we needed a cottage industry to sort through 1100 name badges. This years volunteer badges had the forum name printed, if it was provided by the member when they emailed their volunteer information to the Stoneleigh organisation team. If members didn't send a name it was either blank or stated (son, daughter etc.) We provided badges to non volunteers who requested them on the day.. Unfortunately:- it isn't a viable option to print all the names badges for all the members (we have tried it, it time consuming, difficult to manage and there is a lost of waste) we can only work with the information people provide when they send their volunteer information. It's a time consuming activity over a number of weeks to create the volunteer lists (camping, tintop site entry, volunteer rotas). chasing up missing forum names that people forgot to send isn't information have time to chase. I hope this helps?2 points

Just like to echo the comments, first time to the show for me and a worthwhile drive down from bonny Scotland....the weather was great and the WSCC stand was well turned out...met a few of the members and thanks to Dave for showing me his setup for the steering wheel controls and Mike for bringing a freewheel kit....winter project I'm thinking...I had a go in the Westfield drifting which was top class and came home with the boot of the full of goodies...well done to all...1 point

I thought it was an excellent showing by the Club and its members, as good as ever (my attendance was restricted to Sunday). The turnout of club members in their cars was very impressive. No doubt helped by the weather. I was a bit disappointed with the Speed Series display in hall 2. John was doing his best, but with hardly any support from any of the Speed Series regulars. In the past there have been several sprint cars on display, including one or two fairly extreme (ie high powered) sprint cars, which adds interest. Not helped I guess by 2 rounds of the Speed Series on the same weekend. As an ex-Speed Series competitor it saddens me that we have this clash of dates, not only with Stoneleigh but also the 21st celebrations at Shelsley. I hope I'm wrong, but the impression I get is that it isn't going to help the cause of encouraging new entrants to the Speed Series, which is a great shame as anyone who hasn't tried it cannot imagine the camaraderie and excitement of competing against similar cars is so fantastic, and is to be encouraged. Not helped by being obscured by the huge display boards in front of the stand.1 point

Tel’s Tales Anglesey May weekend 2018 The second visit to Anglesey this year was arranged by MGCC (NW) and was 2 laps of the National circuit on Saturday and 1 lap of International on Sunday with 9 Westfield drivers on Sat and 8 on Sunday. Friday afternoon saw the Westfield mob arriving in bright sunshine with wall to wall blue skies such that I even had my shorts on and my legs frightened most of the paddock. Del and Garry were preparing their car in the garage and I watched Garry cleaning their wheel rims with a sponge and soapy water. He made a great effort but failed in his task as Del rejected them and they needed cleaning again. Several of us continued our preparation in the bar until the bar closed at about 2230. Saturday morning came and was a bit of a shock. Where was the sun and why was it only 6 deg C windy and cloudy when the rest of the country was having a heat wave? Thermals, race overalls and fleeces were definitely needed to keep warm and we exchanged our problems of freezing cold fingers as well as steaming up visors on the start line. Richard Houlgate was out in his class B 2.3L duratech engined car along with newcomer Chris Griffiths and his 2.5L Millington Diamond engine class H car. P1 ( the only practice as it was 2 laps) did not see too much drama apart from Steve Everall’s gearbox breather pipe coming loose and a bolt holding my cycle wing on stripped its threads but it was cured in minutes by the use of locktite and lashings of matching black duct tape. T1- John Loudon aborted his run as he had to deal with a large stone stuck under his clutch which made it slip. Mick Skidmore reinforced his surname by spinning at the hairpin on the cold track (that was his excuse). Meanwhile Del’s car seemed to have developed a bit of a misfire which he was trying to trace or at least understand what was causing it but it was still setting the pace. Tony Mitchell was covering both days as photographer and was clad in his warmest clothes under his HV vest but he still looked very cold as he wandered around trying to get the best pictures. T2 & T3 – saw the competition hotting up and personal battles made the times very interesting. Garry Bunn just got the better of Del in class H . Chris Griffiths had a flat battery issue which I eventually found was a wire on the alternator had come adrift so that was an easy fix. The track remained cold so getting near to target times was becoming very difficult despite our efforts. John Loudon and I were having a close battle but John’n missed gear change just after the start ruined his last run leaving me fastest in class G by about 0.4secs. Howard Gaskin won the class D contest with Steve. Eventually Westfield cars performed very well with overall positions as follows: Garry Bunn -2nd Derek Hodder – 3rd Terry Everall – 4th John Loudon – 6th Chris Griffiths – 7th Howard Gaskin – 8th Steve Everall – 10th As usual we all congregated in the café bar at night and with the help of a few drinks and a disco (with dancing, at which Howard Gaskin excelled). A few more of us were dragged, screaming onto the floor by Julie Hodder and Sandra Bunn but it was not a pretty sight. We left at 0030hrs for a bit of sleep. Sunday’s weather was cloudy and cold (warmer than Saturday) due to a continual seafret most of the day so we did not see any sun until around 1600hrs and at times visibility was around 200m. P1 and P2 was interesting as when you were flat out on the back straight towards Rocket it was tricky see exactly where you were going. Del got a rerun after a Morgan went off a nd he never got a red flag. John Loudon also wangled a rerun and the cheeky monkey cane back into the paddock to “refuel” when actually he was resetting his flatshifter. Steve Everall refused a rerun as he had water blowing onto his helmet from the header tank after overfilling it slightly. T1 – John Loudon continued to make lots of adjustments to his car including changing his rear springs, altering front camber and tracking. It seemed to keep him busy but he looked like a cat on a hot tinned roof. He was setting the pace and I could not match his times so I needed to pull my finger out. Chris Griffiths was going well and putting in some good times in class H but Del and Garry were having the usual close battle. T2 – witnessed Del’s car being pushed back into the paddock from the track but it only because the car had run out of compressed air for the gear shift system. Mick Skidmore (who was battling with Steve on similar times) found his gearbox to propshaft bolts had come loose but quick action with his spanner solved that issue. T3 – no big incidents but Howard banged in a quick time. T4- was a bit strange as we did not run in order and just queue for the last run. Mick Skidmore had a big moment as he went off at high speed on the hill up to Rocket where he touched the grass on the outside of the track and ended up in the tyre wall suffering damage to the offside rear arch and tub. It did not look too bad so hopefully not an expensive repair. Steve Everall had to pull out of the queue to the strat as the car would not start due to either a battery issue or a starter problem. So that was it …..John Loudon beat me by 0.06secs and Garry was fastet Westfield again. Positions in top ten were Garry Bunn- 2nd Derek Hodder – 3rd Chris Griffiths – 5th John Loudon – 6th Terry Everall – 7th Howard Gaskin – 8th Terry Everall Class G Competitor1 point

Hi, I don't feel massively qualified as it was my first visit but here is a few newbie 2 pences to throw into the mix... The Good Presentation and scale wise WSCC was the standout at the show, by a fair margin Banners looked good and I had no problem finding it (unlike other clubs) I liked the marquee, it felt like a hub without being too crazy, the covered seated area probably helped with that so people could still get out of the sun now and again without cluttering up the space The t-shirts made it really clear who is organising The hospitality/facilities for members was great once I knew what was what (more on that later) e.g. the drop-off, snack shop, seating area, BBQ, etc... The autojumble had more decent stuff in than I was expecting (and in fact it turns out something I really wanted that I unfortunately missed as I didn't see it ) - I've run one with a previous car club and the bits that got brought along that time really weren't worth selling mostly, this was much better! I just need to be more confident rooting around next time. There were loads of cars! I think I did three or four laps of them all picking up ideas, taking photos, etc... The plot was well organised, car were parked well. In general it felt like a slick place to be compared to the others The volunteers were all really friendly, helpful and hard working - great work! The not so good (I'm not going to say bad as it really wasn't) As a very new club member (only having my car a week) and first time visitor I was a bit unsure what the process/procedure was and knew literally nobody. I kind of mooched around the marquee for a bit looking slightly awkward and eventually spoke to Mark at the membership desk and had a good chat (we live near each other). As part of that he said about getting a name badge and what the deal was with the drop-off, BBQ, etc... and suddenly it felt very relaxed and easy. Maybe it's just me but I really felt better having a printed name badge on as it made breaking ice conversations easier. I agree about not mass printing 1000s of labels, but printing on demand worked well and I just think it needed sign posting a bit more (e.g. "WSCC Member Sign-In/Badges here" type of thing) so I could have known to go straight over (apologies if there was and I missed it). Also a member show benefits/itinerary type board near the entrance might be good to let new people know where to go/who to speak to/who is allowed some BBQ'd meat Just a thought - I know a lot of this was probably covered on the forum but it was hot and I forgot things I unfortunately missed the 'bonnets off' due to getting wrapped up in an ultimately pointless chat on a trade stand. As such I didn't really get to speak to any owners about their specific cars which would have been great. I wonder if doing a morning and afternoon 'bonnets off' would be good to allow people to track car owners down a bit easier for a chat/sit? Generally some way of being able to find the owner of 'car A' to discuss 'modification B' would have been great but I know people can't be hanging around on the off chance. Hall 2... visited and the stand itself was fine but very out of the way at the back and screened by GBS, not great. I also think it felt like something that should maybe be on the club stand. I think in my head it would be better if the club stand was where most of the things were located, and then the hall stand is more a general WSCC promotions booth so it advertises the club, sell merchandise, directs people to come outside to the club area, etc... rather than being a club/speed series split. Generally across the show I felt the "trade" places were not what I was expecting at all (and as has been mentioned some of the halls felt very sparse). In my head I expected to be coming home with boxes and bags full of bits and bobs, and at least a couple of expensive impromptu purchases I would have to try and explain to the wife. As is happened I only picked up a couple of bits that I had arranged pre-show (as it was better than posting) and then spent nearly 2 hours online when I got home ordering things I couldn't find (e.g. I couldn't even get a set of harness eye bolts on the day which really surprised me!). If the show itself isn't supporting that sort of stand, then maybe there would be milage in inviting some of the Westfield friendly sellers to setup on our plot? (I'm thinking Soft Bits and some of the carbon guys maybe?) All in all though I really enjoyed my first Stoneleigh and will come back again next year with a volunteers t-shirt on and a tent to lend a hand. Thanks, Andy P.S. Just realised that it looks like I have more bad than good above, I really don't, I've just waffled on to provide a detailed comment on the couple of things1 point

Had a great time at my first WSCC event. The car went well and I was warmly welcomed by all the WSCC competitors. Many thanks to them and to Terry Everall for showing me how to modify my car set up. And thanks too to John Williams for patiently answering all my questions in the weeks before the event. Looking forward to Blyton a week on Saturday.1 point

Didnt buy mine at the show, but a month before, but said I would wait until the show and hey presto a discount appeared !! Say you have been considering other cars and you need a sweetener to sign on the line at the show . Make them sweat a bit too to get the sale !! ( dont tell Simon this )1 point
