  1. First post from me, didn’t see the point of adding another thread - I’m one of OP’s sons, and if anything I’m more excited about the car than he is (mainly because I didn’t pay for it!) So far, I’ve only been out in the car once, and it’s certainly an experience! Somewhat different to my 1,900kg diseasel automatic daily hack, and very quickly re-taught me how to drive a car! The only issue from my standpoint (and my older brother’s, presumably) is insurance. Currently I can drive it under my own policy, but obviously third party only, which is far from ideal. And my age (26, and my brother 29) is too young for OP’s current provider Ive started to look into some other insurers (I found the thread on this forum, and speak to some of those) but obviously going forward it’s a much better prospect to be fully above board, if I were unfortunate enough to bend something. Anyway, car talk - OP hasn’t updated for a few days, so I’ll steal his thunder - the rough idle was seemingly being caused by flooded spark plug recesses - new plugs and leads has almost completely fixed the running of the car, as the old units were apparently in very poor condition as a result of their extended swim. Secondly, after my 20ish mile hoon on a (annoyingly busy) B-road a couple of weeks back, I decided very quickly that a helmet was needed. National speed limit (and no higher, you understand) wind in the face is not my idea of fun. Hopefully OP keeps the thread updated with progress, and hopefully I can bug him enough to keep getting it out of the garage each weekend...

  2. Yes, but what a 35 secs! I made a three and a half hour drive to go there, followed by a 4 hour drive the same day to go to Hethel for the next day, followed by a three hour drive home. It's worth that much to me. Some of us like hills and their unique character. It's not all about seat time. I know I said I might start considering circuits more after bending my car at Wiscombe but they still have a special place in my heart and I'm bitterly disappointed about the loss of Barbon, Wiscombe and Llys Y Fran from our calendar. Let's not lose Gurston as well. If the trend continues I may well have to consider other championships instead of the Speed Series.

  5. @tc3nitro I drilled 12mm holes each end to start with, then joined them together with a 1mm disc in the angry grinder, then used a dremel type multi tool with drum sander bits in it to remove the majority of the material, then finished off with hand files

  6. When I was competing properly I would have liked to visit Loton more than one W/E in a season It is , ( IMHO) the best all round hill. To lose any more hills would be a shame, they are all very challenging in their own way. Perhaps attendance was low because of the shift to a more northern/Sprint basis/calender?

  7. i wanted to go but decided on hethel instead .unfortunately it takes to long to pack up and do two events so far away on the same weekend . keep taking them away and you will lose more competitors .your choice

  8. Yep, if I had old fashioned cycle wings, this is definitely what I would look at doing

  9. As already stated I would have gone but messed up my entry. Gurston is a brilliant event and a fantastic hill. Thankfully I managed to get a late entry at Hethel but not many people there either. Perhaps we had better drop that as well?

  12. At Gurston I was there with my £2.50. They said they were noting everyone who needed one and would come back after scrutineering. Never saw them again. One of the guys in my group who already had a sticker found his had fallen off while getting ready. Thankfully it was still in the bag but it's a heads-up to make sure it's properly adhered. If it goes missing out on track you'll no doubt have to repeat the process and the £2.50.

  14. That must be one fast car if you need that much bog roll driving it.

  15. Both my girls have ridden extensively in my Westie since they were 7 and 9. I've got Sports turbo seats with 2inch 4 point harnesses. I use a booster seat base fitted backwards and the harnesses then fit fine. I've given their friends quick rides out too as long as I've had their parents permission. I agree the crash protection is less, however they've got none when walking on the pavement!

  16. Was pondering on whether to do it to mine but decided to leave them, I would have gone for a series of round holes but as I'm OCD I concluded that they would never be perfect enough and it would drive me to distraction

  17. My understanding is because of the copies that have been found. It's quite a big problem, bigger that you might think. Things like FIA Rally Seats get copied as well. if you can make money by copying it and sticking a label on it, then it appears that someone, somewhere will do it. As to the sticker they are like the helmet stickers, if you talk to MSA Tech Dept then the stickers are there so that Scrutineers or any other officials can easily see cars that are lined up ready to start and do a quick check that the driver has suitable helmet & now Hans. Makes sense to me, and ultimately the blame should lie with the copiers. There is of course another aspect, which is who's to say the driver may not have put a different helmet/Hans on, again this is a quick check. I get Scrutineers News each month and I've got to say that some of what you see competitors trying to get away with in there makes you realise why these rules end up being brought in.
