Not fast or exciting, did I say that? well I didn't factor in that a Honda Boy was following did I? oh, oh, the noise behind was just amazing. Let's set up a charity fund, let's raise £22000 so I can buy Stuarts car. That car must, absolutely must, be bought by someone who lives in the Derbyshire area, just imagine that, if it joined our convoy. The thing is, on the first part of today's run there were a lot of horses, so we slowed and even stopped to let them pass, then, when we were out of ear shot, we were off accelerating again. Brrrmm. We met Dave at The Wheatsheaf We have all read Dave's build thread so it was good to see his upgrades in the flesh, so to speak. Of course the first thing you have to do is pretend to drive it. Hands stay on the wheel and you can operate the lights, indicators and wipers/wash. The horn too. The wireless transmitter on the back of the wheel, looking very tidy. Not quite finished, just making sure everything is ok before the buttons get covered. We set off on the new road, the one that the local pony club decided was nice and quiet and a good one to use too. Having enjoyed all the noise earlier, it was quite a contrast, trying to creep along silently. There was the usual poo, pony poo this week and we found some snow too. We pulled into the Millstone Country Inn car park and there was a Kinder suprise, Ian was waiting for us. He had snook out to have a quick cuppa with us, before heading off for family duties. Not before presenting me with some flowers for Mother's Day, which totally confused me because I am not a mother, until he pointed to my keys, see I do have a baby, a Westfield, it's often covered in poo as well, just like a real baby. After a quick catch up with Ian and a delicious 3 meat carvery we did the second leg of our journey. Up our favourite Winnats Pass, over the tops of Buxton and to Blaze Farm. I had Rocky Road ice cream, Glen had bubblegum flavoured and Dave had one with chocolatey ball things on. Winnats Pass It has been a very varied and eventful day. The driving has gone from slow and taking in stunning views, to making the best of fast opportunities, we did tyre kicking, flowers, dinners, ice cream, not a dull moment. A great big thank you to Dave and Ian for joining us on a tricky day.5 points

There is another option here and that is track day tuition. Quite a few track day organisers and circuits have tuition available from around £25 for 15mins. The downside to this is being in a Westfield it is impossible to communicate with the instructor without a comms system. I actually got free track day tuition with an open-track track day. The instructor sat me down in front of a track map, told me the braking points and lines through the corners, then let me go around for a few laps as he watched in silence, then brought me in and gave me a couple pointers then we went back out again. It might have been a bit easier with some sort of comms device, but it worked. For me i'm usually happy to follow another car around and steal his lines until I find my own, being in a Westfield gives you an instant advantage against most other cars to start with so you can often keep up with the faster guys in tin tops while not pushing yourself too much.2 points

I was involved in organising some of the days long, long ago and we ended up with 2 problems 1) lack of numbers to make them financially viable. 2) concern over potential liability as to keep the costs down club members were running the days. Unfortunately it just got to a stage where we had to stop. The Blyton Friday is run by the Circuit staff and well attended as the sprint weekend is on immediately afterwards. It's a great event, I only wish I had a Westfield I could drive that day2 points

MSV track days are running plenty of novice days... Instruction always worth the money even in noisy open top..especially once you have had some time at the circuit.. Gold track used to do three groups which was good when starting out..1 point

WSCC Blyton 13th July an excellent Novice track day. Loads of support with tuition sessions. And challenging enough for the more experienced. Nick - I'm sure if you head down on the Friday and hang around the start with your helmet looking suitably sad/hopeful several will take pity and give you Westie drives.1 point

I would definitely go with Dean’s comments here; having done a track session where only me and one other driver, both novices ourselves anyway, of a total of ten drivers, had ever been on track before, it was very offputting catching up or being around most of the others. They were just so random, when it came to braking, lines etc. Far more enjoyable with people of a generally higher skill level around.1 point

Have fun, looks like you have great weather for this today.1 point

Would you not feel safer being surrounded by experienced drivers, instead of a group of novices that may brake/turn or do something else silly at the wrong time? I prefer to do track days with more experienced people where I can see their driving lines. Of course all track days have the occasional idiot who has decided to treat it as a test day.1 point

Here goes; SEiW with Siltech wide track, micro adjustable rear wishbones, billet uprights & AP F3 calipers on floating discs all round. Ohlins 3-way dampers. Lowered floor, b6 Tillet seats with cushioning and 3" 4 point harnesses. Sierra type 3.14 ATB differential. Carbon fibre covered alloy honeycomb full floor. Carbon fibre pre-preg interior panels. Carbon fibre dash using 620r style dash switchgear, AIM MXS dash and logger. Carbon fibre pre-preg exterior panels. AP DBW pedal box. 4-wheel traction control. 280mm Momo steering wheel connected to a works-bell quick release using an electrical connector kit. Titan H/D quick steering rack. Geartronics pneumatic shift system. Playskool paddles. Image billet 13" alloys 8" & 10" Gen2 hayabusa, tuned and fully internally strengthened and fitted with a TTS Rotex C38R supercharger (500ish bhp). all in all, not a great deal different to what I have. the only remaining job I have for my car is to replace the pedal box for a bias adjustable type... and then maybe upgrade the brakes at some point in the future.1 point

The FW400 was a limited run Westfield with all carbon chassis, very highly tuned K series engine and Hewland transaxle at the back. Developed with Ogilvy Design, it was a serious piece of kit back in its day.1 point

Sorry but Steve and I will have to withdraw from the championship for this year then as although our car is road legal and has an MOT, but due to work commitments we will be unable to fit lights for this year.0 points
