  1. Guys. Everyone is entiteled to take a break away from facebook, forum, whatsapp, cars, computers and phones. If it wasn't because of the renewal coincidence no-one would be speaking about it now. Anyway... there is no reason to feel any Loss, he is still alive (at least he was on saturday), and the fact that right now is not a paid member, doesn't make him less aproachable.

  2. He doesn't want to give the mini trophy back... so he is not renewing, and right now is looking for a country without extradition to live in love with the tropy without being prosecuted.

  3. That’s a great idea, when it comes to looking at these sort of cars second hand, you just can’t beat looking at lots of them, even those not for sale, to really get your eye in, and get a feel for what you would like, and what you’re not so bothered about.

  4. i really like the mnr i think its a grea looking car there is also this one for sale on locostbuilders with an ebay link https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MNR-Vortx-RT-plus-R1-bike-engine-Kit-car-Track-Trackday-Race-Fast-road/132527742003?hash=item1edb44dc33:g:IKQAAOSwnDBancuq

  5. Personally I’d suggest carbon fibre for lightness and an integrated tinted visor for convenience when sunny. For motorsport you need FIA approval. But for road and occasional track a motorbike lid will work fine. Try and avoid the current bike fashion of an aero wedge at the rear though as that will get in the way with a headrest.

  6. Just for information there are currently 4 drivers entered in class F ( No John Hoyle as yet) and 2 are Busas ! You wont know how quick you are unless you join in and get free advice on car set up, suspension, tyre pressures, mods etc as well as full paddock support and free mechanics and materials if something happens to your car. We can repair most cars and carry a lot of spare parts available to the speed series guys . The paddock banter and support is unparallelled and all part of being in the Westfield Speed Series.

  7. I've kept a record of all the cars and bikes I have owned over many, many years. Until this week the total stood at 54. Then I saw the entry list for the 1980 Mindbender Rally, a road rally in North Wales. I drove a white 1300 Mk1 Escort Sport on that event, but the entry list showed a 1300 Mk1 Escort, purple. I had forgotten about that car, no doubt due to the colour, but I've now updated my list. That makes 55 and counting.

  8. Hello, Just brought myself my first Westfield and very excited about it. First hurdle is though that it's only just running, popping and banging which I think is the carborerters (fingers crossed) I can't really drive the car due to this so need to get it to a friend's garage. Thought about towing but couldn't see anywhere good on the car to tow from? Does anyone know a firm in Cheltenham or Gloucester that would move it, its only about 4-5 miles thou, I wasn't sure if this would be to small a job for a professional firm. Any thoughts would be gratefully received, thank you.

  10. In all honestly I’m local to Crewe so if I could come and see it if you do buy it that’d be much appreciated. I can then see what I can get for that sort of money!

  13. To add - if I wanted a car now for your budget I’d probably buy but you will be lucky if it’s around after the weekend.

  14. Yes @BugMan tin tops are fine, the driving is minimal and in a 30mph zone, so it really does not matter what car you come in. Yes @GuitarmanUK Zero's are fine by me, we all love kit cars don't we Now, @Robin (Red Spider) - Yorkshire AO , we need a chat, there is a lovely drink you can have that matches the colour of your car, it's called orange juice. Just leave your inhibitions at home, you will have a great night and then you will feel great the next day. I'll get me coat Ha, ha, great news that everyone else is coming, it's always a great day out.

  15. Last October the MSA issued the 'Hybrid & Electric Cars: Guidance for organizers of Speed events'. This document outlines the MSA safety requirements at such events and is to be welcomed. Before this, EV sprint racing in the UK was effectively uncontrolled and potentially dangerous. EVs permitted to race are either series production vehicles or Formula E cars. Other EVs including mine, must be individually approved by the MSA. To support this process I must produce a technical reference document detailing the cars high voltage electrical and battery safety systems and also prepare suitable risk assessments. I will submit the car and its documentation to the MSA for approval as soon as I can. Preparing the car and it's documentation is the easy bit - relatively. Each event organizer must also have written approval from the MSA to permit EV racing. The MSA guidance covers the provision of risk assessments, battery fire fighting equipment, separate and marshaled charging and quarantine areas, EV safety training for marshals and electric vehicle safety processes in general. Persuading event organizers to satisfy these requirements just to allow one car to compete will be a challenge. However, I have had expressions of support from across the racing fraternity and with the help and good will of the MSA and the WSCC, I hope at least one event will accept an entry from me this year - in July perhaps.

  16. John Surely the MSA (or other regulatory bodies) need your extensive background and first hand experience to help bring this class of car into competition in the most sensible and practical ways possible? You would certainly get my vote and be a respected and knowledgable voice for the cause of the cars of the future? G

  19. With a £10k max budget you should pick up a decent spec Zetec on throttle bodies. Mine puts out 183bhp and 175ftlb. One upgrade mine has is a heavy duty gearbox built by BGH with a long first gear and better ratios. The previous std type 9 was not that much cop and annoyed me - especially first gear. The uprated box makes a huge difference and would be a “must have” for me.

  20. Two points to bear in mind with this one. The single cam engine is getting a bit long in the tooth and the four speed box is straight cut so would be pretty noisy and not deal for road use. As for BEC vs CEC, it’s a very personal choice and both have their selling points. A BEC will be more tiring on a motorway and on normal roads, but we had two with us around the alps, so they are not impossible to tour with. They will be well suited to track days with the light weight and sequential box. A CEC will (in my view) better suit road driving where you can pretty much leave it in third around the twisties and use the torque to boot it out of corners without having to constantly change gear. As a life long biker I wanted a BEC but ended up building a Zetec engined car. I use it for fun on the back roads and also for track days and will try sprints this year. I do not regret the decision.

  21. Another slight alteration to the plan. As @kevip6 has other commitments on the 8th April, the weigh-in will now take place the following Sunday, 15th April. Start time and activities remain the same, so get weighed, get fed and get timed on the simulator. Put it in your diary and I will give it a bump nearer the time.

  23. Don't overlook a bike helmet. It's much cheaper and wider choice. Car helmets are expensive as for fia they have fireproof lining. But a Westfield is an open cars so this is less important . Try Jjb at delamere down the a556 to Chester.

  24. The battery is segmented into 4 cell modules. Each cell module is built into a sealed aluminium casing and mounted inside the undertray housing. Thus, the cells are protected inside a double skinned, water tight and fire-resistant box. Internal structurs ensure the cells can't move and are separated by polycarbinate insulators. A full battery management system (BMS) ensures the cells never exceed unsafe voltages, temperatures and load conditions. My battery was designed back in 2010 and was originally intended for racing applications. Only 7 Sport E cars were built so crash testing the batteries was out of the question on cost grounds alone. Instead a lot of effort went into making the design as robust as possible. During my crash the BMS ensured that the battery system was switched off and electrically isolated before the car came to rest. During the rebuild the batteries were stripped down and checked but no damage was found. The batteries are now reassembled and still working in the car 2 years later.

  28. In my opinion there is only one way to buy a helmet, and that is to go and try one or two on. What fits one person very comfortably won't necessarily fit another even if they have similar sized heads. People have different shaped heads. Is there any possibility you might want to do some form of motorsport in the future? If so, buy an MSA/FIA standard helmet. They are little or no more money than a good bikers helmet, and you don't want to buy a helmet only to find you need another in a year or two. For trackdays, you don't have to have an MSA standards helmet, as long as you have a decent full face helmet. However, some say that an MSA standard helmet is potentially safer in the sort of impacts which can happen in cars than a biker's helmet which is tested for slightly different impacts. I don't know whether that is true or not, but many say it is, and I am not about to argue the point. As to where you can buy a decent helmet, it depends a bit ion where you live. Demon Tweeks (in Wrexham) are probably the biggest stockist of MSA helmets, but if you get to the National Kitcar show or the Autosport Racing car show there will be plenty of firms selling them. Playskool Motorsport have an excellent budget range which comply with the MSA standards, and they are members of this club.

  29. The safest way I've found to tow a Westfield type car to minimise risk of damage is to remove the nose cone and bonnet, place these in the boot of the tow car and then tie the rope around the front corner of the chassis at the junction of the horizontal and vertical tubes.

  30. Not all of mine made it home. Ford E93A - expired. Cooper 970S - grenade engine, turned into shrapnel. 1300 Escort Sport - rolled on the way home from the pub, with the wife. Mini 998 - rolled on the way to work, long story. Hillman Avenger - altercation with a Lada in the snow. 1500 Escort - rolled in Clocaenog, Cestrian Rally. 1293 Cooper S - lady driver, but I had right of way. XR2 - too many miles, not enough oil. Vauxhall Victor FE - stolen, but why? Lots of stories and memories, only three remain at the moment, two Westfields and a Ford Kuga. Saving up for the Aston.

  35. Wow, from what I thought was just a simple innocent post it looks like I have opened up a big debate... let me just state that that was not my intention. Also thanks for all the comments and messages of encouragement, we recognise that winning is not everything, and we are realistic in our expectations... the social side does play a big part, and we don’t dismiss this aspect.... But the die is cast for this year, we have already entered the MSC, and have our schedule of 9+ events, hotels are already booked etc... some of these will coincide with wscc events, so I’m sure that there will be ample opportunity for your committee to test the 3.5% assumption. But back to my first point, debate is healthy, but I think that Maurici has articulated our considerations very well,,,, a true road going car will not be competitive in your class F... so until that aspect is addressed in your class structure then you will possibly not encourage new bike engined cars to join in..... So I guess that is the burning question.... how is the SS going to be an inclusive, and sustainable series and recruit new ordinary road car / novice driver combinations with limited budgets.....

  36. Even if john is not going out, They would still be scoring against johns time records, isnt it? Its unrealistic to tell them that they will do well with toyos in their class... as they will be galaxies away from the tt. Nobody is happy to see an 85% (random number just invented) in their score...

  37. Hi All Firstly a big thank you to those of you who have signed up and paid to attend the Speed Series 21st Anniversary Event at Shelsley Walsh This is very encouraging as it is still 3 months away! Remember time goes very quickly! We are attempting to put on a very memorable event and at a very prestigious location of Motor Sport history. Such a location and event does come cheap and some of the cost is being kindly supported by the WSCC! However to ensure it is a memorable event and we DO NOT loose money we do need many more of you to sign up quickly so that we know all our efforts will be successful! When we first floated the idea of this event we had nearly 100 members and guests who showed great enthusiasm for the event and registered their interest on the Forum! Currently we have 33 people signed up to drive the hill on the day and 32 people for the anniversary dinner! We need to more than DOUBLE this attendance to make this RIP ROARING Celebration of 21 years of the Speed Series the event we all envisage. Please visit Events.wscc.co.uk to read up onthe information on why we are doing this and the limited rules and regs we have to follow to make it a real fun day! Then sign up in your droves to attend the event with you friends and family and let me sleep a bit easier at night! Many thanks Graham

  38. As you are well aware, there was only two cars in class F last year... mick skidmore, and the series winner, John who also settled all the records (well, most) of the current venues... How an standart unmodified busa with toyos will be any good against john's car with ZZR super soft? And who will drive to actually be any near to johns times? Shall we ask to Mr Hamilton to come and accept the challenge?
