We met at The Wheatsheaf, found the fire and ordered the bacon sandwiches. That is, Andrew, a 2 hours drive away, and Martyn and Sue, a 1 and a half hour drive away, a dedication to be very well respected. We were soon joined by Matt, all the way from Lincolnshire, 2 hours away also, in his green Westfield running a 1.8 Zetec on throttle bodies. Now that sounds a familiar combination!! and a very good choice too. Everybody was soon clucking like mother hens around the new addition These cars were all far too clean and we needed to go and find some pure Peak District muck, which we did in true style, thankfully it was dry stuff and not too sticky. We took the great big circular road to nowhere and even stopped to admire the views. Stop, I said it would be slow, but there is no traffic on these roads, mainly because they don't go anywhere. You know the rule by now, FOLLOW ME That's it, the road to nowhere Well it actually goes to The Yondermann Cafe, so we stopped off there for lunch. You know what is coming next, we needed a cake stop and the Insomnia Cafe was the chosen place. I even managed to not break their flower vase this time. Forget horsepower, Martyn's car is exactly 2 break manpower, get it, ha ha.......never mind. For the route home we diverted through the Chatsworth Estate (where Martyn and Sue headed South) and up over Beeley Moor, to drop the Lincolnshire Boys off at the petrol station. What a lovely day, thank you to everyone for driving all the miles to join us, thank you very much, we have enjoyed it immensely. Ssh, but role on summer!3 points

Just a quick note to say thanks Julie and Glen for organising the day. Without you doing all the organising i would not have been out at all - probably vegetated by the fire. Much better to be with good friends eating our way around the Peak District! Good to meet MattV and we travelled in convoy to Lincoln before going out sepetate ways.3 points

Great to meet you all today, thanks for the run out! @AndrewBClarke hope you made it home ok. Apologies the route back was a bit rubbish. In my defence, it looked pretty wiggly on the map!!2 points

I'd pretty much echo the sentiments from above, and I think you have taken the right approach. Defiantly join up here, probably the best thing you can invest in here is the community here who are fully supportive. Don't get hung up on the word "BLOG", just start a build diary, and post lots of pictures, we love pictures, and if you read through any of the currently running build you will see people spotting errors and things that could be done better. Saved my bacon on 3 occasions I can remember. Don't bother with the wet-weather gear, as general advice is not to get this until post IVA, less small thing to catch the testers eyes. If you think you might change it later, don't buy it now as it will be a lot of work to change at a later date, at which time the extra £££ will be payed back. This applied to me as I took my kit without tyres, as i was not keen on the T1R's or r888. I took my kit in 2 stages as to me there was no point in the bodywork sitting around for 6 months+, you just need to let the factory know 6 weeks ahead, which is just about when you get the engine in. Options lists really depends on your intended use, so for me as its aimed at a road car, it made no sense to go for Anti Roll Bars, but with my engine I went for the Limited Slip diff (LSD). I would go for the heater as I also have a financial controller to keep happy, get the best brakes you can afford. Get the wheels you really want, pointless buying something new you then intend to change. Defiantly wide-track. Best advice I could give would be to get along to your local group meeting and have a chat and look around what other people are driving before you make a decision, it was one of the VERY best things I did before I put my order in, most local AO's seem to run stuff every 2 weeks or so, and my local team regally come around to my build to have a butchers at my build. If not a local group, find somebody local. And by the way Welcome2 points

Missed these runs out, even if my waist line hasn’t! Still hopefully back on the road fairly shortly now.1 point

Weather for Feb, was perfect. There were only 17 cars booked on, and... Pintosaurus didn't want to play. It refused to start first thing, then when we got it going, it was back to it's old miss firing tricks. We were gradually working through things we could swap... tried a coil, and some plugs, when it peed it's self in the paddock. It looks like the water pump has given up.. so end of play just before lunch. The track was dry, but I presume due to the cold, not terribly grippy.. OK though. I also thought it was a bit more bumpy than I remember. It looks like there's been some patching up in places over the winter? Can heartily recommend Lotus on track though.. I think they were only aiming for 25 cars to fill the event so it was never going to be busy. Free second drivers too which is a bonus these days. Cars were mainly Lotus Elise and Exige, with a couple of Porsches, a pair of Caterhams and one sick Westfield! I let the marque down. My son Pete had a bit of fun with a rapid Evora.. (is it?) Sweet sounding V6. I should get some vid up soon.1 point

Brunel's solutions to engineering problems aren't comparable with ticking boxes on a car order form.1 point

Just testing the water to gauge interest in a pair of 6 pot AP post mount calipers, carbon pads and pair of carbon centre lock discs (when I can locate the 2nd disc which must be around somewhere!) I have had these for a number of years, bought from a memorabilia agent back in the day. Circa 1999 believed to be ex- Williams F1 so FW21 Winfield era. Many teams used the same brake equipment back in those days. I had these set aside as an upgrade for one of the many projects I have owned over the years but never got around to machining the post fix mounts to enable fittment. The set comprises used but serviced calipers, new carbon pads and discs with titanium disc bells. I’m not sure whether conventional pads are available from AP or not or whether the set would have to be used as is. They are designed for 13” rims. I would be interested in swapping for a more conventional brake upgrade for the westfield I now own, or offers around £500 (subject to me locating the 2nd disc!).1 point
