  1. Given the poor fit issues seen on here with the FW panels, there might be a skip outside a factory in the West Midlands with plenty to chose from...................

  2. We got our daughter a Yaris to start with as they were not trendy cars and as a result did not attract a cool insurance hike. She then has had a couple of mini coopers as has the wife and they have been fine. Parts are more expensive than other small cars and certain ones, like power steering pumps do break regularly. What I find strange is young kids these days are not prepared to have an old banger to start with, they expect and want almost new cars to start with on day one. Even though we could easily afford to buy Charlotte a new one we didn't and made her save up to buy her first mini from her part time job. She appreciates that others have to work hard and not everything is on a plate for everyone.

  14. Britain’s leading traffic police chief is calling for a “dramatic” crackdown on speeding drivers. Chief Constable Anthony Bangham is calling for an end to “soft” treatment and for motorists to be punished even if they are just 1mph over the limit. This is in addition to the general lowering of speed limits around the country. 50mph on the evo triangle and a proposed 40mph limit with average speed cameras on the Horseshoe Pass. The estate where I live is in the process of implementing a 20mph limit to replace the 30mph limit. The reason given is that at present the average speed in the cul-de-sacs is 24mph and the new limit will reduce this to 23mph, resulting in a 6% reduction in accidents and injuries. During the 39 years I have lived here I cannot recall one single accident. And the cost of this programme is £850,000. I wonder how they will recoup this cost? I don’t condone excessive speeding but surely common sense must apply. As Jeremy Clarkson once said, it isn’t only speed that kills, it’s running into someone.

  15. The Nanny Sate is simply going to get worse and worse for drivers. Imagine a system where the punishment fits the offence, and compare speeding near a school during the day and 95mph over the tops of the Evo Triangle at 5am where you can see the road ahead for miles. Common sense and Traffic Police, I don't think so... It seems car manufacturers tempt us with faster and faster cars whilst the speed limits get more and more draconian. I feel sorry for the poor b*******s in 100 years time, all driving their battery powered boxes under the ever-present eye of the on-boad telemetry systems that will recognise any infringement, inform DVLA and your insurer then send a text to you and a debit to your bank account accordingly: all before you arrive home.

  16. Many years ago I got a job working for a recovery firm. The first job I went to was a VW beetle which had spun and gone backwards through a fence. In doing so one piece of metal in the fence had gone through the top of the engine lid, the passenger and out through the dash and bonnet, killing the young guy. One of the worst sights I saw doing that job
